KIIRAS: What We Know About The New K-pop Girl Group Featuring Malaysian Trainee Lingling

Hype Malaysia28-04-2025

Earlier this month, fans were excited to learn that Malaysian K-pop trainee Lingling (링링) will finally make her long-awaited debut. The 20-year-old, who first gained public attention through the K-pop survival show 'I-LAND 2,' is set to debut in a global girl group under South Korean agency Lean Branding.
Since the first announcement, the label has been building up anticipation for their new group, recently dropping the first teaser image, logo and name for the group – revealing them as KIIRAS (키라스). While we wait for the girl group's official debut on 29th May (Thursday), here's what we know about them so far:
The Meaning Behind The Group's Name
According to Naver Entertainment, the name KIIRAS is a combination of the Korean word for energy, '기/氣' (pronounced ki) and the English word 'rascal'. The group's name represents the bold ambition to become lovable and charming yet 'mischievous' idols in the K-pop industry.
The Group Will Have Six Members
Lean Branding also confirmed that KIIRAS will have six members. Besides Lingling, the girl group will include one Japanese member and four Korean members. The group will introduce the other members soon – but a previously released image gave fans a first glimpse of the girls.
The Group Will Debut In Late May
In the first teaser image, which also revealed the group's official logo, we learn that the group will make their official debut on 29th May 2025 (Thursday). Unfortunately, there aren't many details on their first release, but the group is likely dropping a digital single since this is common for new idols.
Renowned K-pop Producers & Songwriters Participated In The Debut Track
KIIRAS' debut is also significant as the girls will work with some of K-pop's best producers and writers. Singer-songwriter SAAAY (쎄이) confirmed her participation in the group's debut, acting as producer and vocal trainer. K-pop producer DEEZ (디즈) also helped produce the debut track. Both SAAAY and DEEZ have worked with the likes of aespa (에스파), Baekhyun (백현) and VIVIZ (비비지).
According to news outlets, KIIRAS will introduce a unique and different concept that no idol group has attempted, demonstrating their presence as the 'next generation hot rookie' in K-pop. We wish the girls all the best in their debut! Are you excited for KIIRAS?

Last member of K-pop megaband BTS to finish military service

K-pop band BTS members RM (left) and V react after being discharged from a mandatory military service in Chuncheon, South Korea, Tuesday, June 10, 2025. -- AP Photo/Ahn Young-joon SEOUL (AFP): SUGA, a member of the K-pop megaband BTS, will officially complete his mandatory military service on Saturday, marking the full return of all seven members of the global supergroup from duty. South Korea's most lucrative musical act has been on a self-described "hiatus" since 2022 as its members undertook the mandatory service required of all South Korean men under 30 due to tensions with the nuclear-armed North. SUGA will be the last to complete his service, ahead of the group's widely anticipated return to activities as a full unit. His final day concludes at 11:59:59 pm, according to the band's agency HYBE and South Korea's Military Manpower Administration. The rapper, who served as a social service agent -- an alternative form of military duty -- effectively completed his service on Wednesday after using up his remaining leave, according to his label. "Above all else, I wanted to .... sincerely thank our fans who waited for me all this time," SUGA told the group's fans -- collectively known as ARMY -- on the platform Weverse. "I've missed you so much." Before entering military service, the megaband generated more than 5.5 trillion won ($4 billion) in yearly economic impact, according to the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute. Analysts expect HYBE's operating profit to jump next year, driven in part by BTS's anticipated return to large-scale touring, with some projections forecasting a 71 percent year-on-year increase. "The importance of BTS's reunion to HYBE, K-pop and South Korea at large cannot be overstated. They are singular in their part of the Korean Wave," Grace Kao, a sociology professor at Yale University, told AFP. "I think their next tour will be their biggest yet." Since their release last week, band leader RM has appeared at Art Basel in Switzerland as the new global ambassador for Samsung's Art TV, while member V was spotted attending a piano recital in Seoul alongside "Old Boy" filmmaker Park Chan-wook. - Soft power - BTS has long been considered one of the best examples of South Korea's soft power reach, even making a White House visit in 2022. They have spoken candidly about mental health and anti-Asian crime and donated $1 million to the Black Lives Matter movement in 2019, inspiring fans to contribute the same amount. K-pop's surging popularity has also helped break down barriers for Asian artists, said Keung Yoon Bae, a Korean studies professor at Georgia Institute of Technology. "Singers such as Eric Nam, born and raised in Atlanta, have discussed before how they had to go to Korea because they felt that attaining a music career in the US as an Asian felt impossible," she said. "Today, groups such as BTS and Blackpink seem to be breaking down that sense of impossibility." Despite the widespread acclaim, SUGA was fined 15 million won ($10,933) for driving an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol last year. On Saturday, he once again apologised for the incident in a message posted on Weverse. "I'm sorry for the disappointment and concern I caused due to what happened last year. More than anything, knowing I caused pain to my fans broke my heart," he said. "I'll do my best to repay the love you've given me - now more than ever." - BTS

Malaysian singer-songwriter Khai Bahar unveils his new stirring single and its all set to hit the South-East Asian market

Not every chapter in life is filled with joy. Sometimes, we stumble in silence, unsure of how to rise again. In those quiet moments, a song can become a refuge – a reminder that it is okay to pause, to lean, and to simply feel. Malaysian singer-songwriter Khai Bahar returns with his latest single, 'Beri Sedikit Waktu', a deeply moving ballad composed by Adi Pawana and Rudy Nastia, and produced by leading label Sony Music Malaysia. More than just a melody, the song offers comfort to weary souls – an emotional embrace for those carrying silent burdens. 'I accepted the song the moment I heard it. No hesitation. No second thoughts. It struck something deep inside me because it mirrors a chapter I'm living… losing my beloved mother hasn't been easy,' Khai shares sincerely. 'Kau Bukannya Menyerah, Hanya Bersandar Seketika…' The above line which translates to 'you're not giving up, just leaning for a moment…' is the heart of 'Beri Sedikit Waktu', inviting listeners to slow down, to acknowledge pain, and to rest when the weight of the world feels too heavy. According to Sony's media release, the song is not just a ballad – it is a tender embrace for those quietly battling their own storms. 'I believe everyone has felt overwhelmed at some point, but not everyone knows how to express it. This song creates that space – to cry, to let go, and to accept that we don't always have to appear strong,' Khai explains. A Healing Ballad For The Heart 'Beri Sedikit Waktu' carries messages of empathy, acceptance, and inner healing. It encourages listeners not to bottle up sadness or pretend to be okay, but instead, to allow themselves to feel, and to heal – at their own pace. Musically, the song takes form as a ballad rich in 'healing' energy – featuring minimalist arrangements, a calm vocal delivery, and soul-stirring lyrics. 'I sang it in the most honest way possible. Not too technical or polished. I just wanted to share the feeling. I believe that if it comes from the heart, it will reach the heart,' says Khai, who admits to thinking of his mother throughout the recording process. Recorded at Mixbro Records in Cybersouth, the track only took about two hours to record – but emotionally, it was a heavy session for the singer. 'There were several moments I had to pause because I got really choked up. But I knew I had to record this song. Because I believe many people need something like this right now,' he adds. The Music Video: A Journey Toward Healing The official music video (MV) for 'Beri Sedikit Waktu' brings an equally powerful visual message – sadness is not the end of the road, and there is always light at the end of the tunnel. 'It represents someone's journey from emotional darkness to the realization that life must go on. No pain lasts forever – sometimes, we just need a little time to heal and rise again,' explains Khai, who was also involved in conceptualising the MV. A Son's Heartfelt Dedication To Khai, this song is not only a tribute to his late mother, but also a gift to anyone who has experienced loss – be it a loved one, a hope, or their own spirit. 'I know many people are silently fighting battles. This song is for them. If it can bring even the slightest relief or make them feel seen or even heard… that's more than enough for me,' he says. Khai hopes 'Beri Sedikit Waktu' will be a comforting companion to listeners, especially when they need time to lean on something – and slowly find their strength again. 'Not everyone can get back up right after a fall. I want this song to feel like a warm hug for all of them. Just take your time. Cry if you need to. But trust me – you will be okay again,' Khai assures. Now Streaming On All Digital Platforms 'Beri Sedikit Waktu' is now available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, Joox, and YouTube Music. The official music video can be watched exclusively on the sonymusicMYVEVO YouTube channel.
