Ten fire engines from the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service (DFRS) raced to the scene near Errwood reservoir in the Upper Goyt Valley of the Peak District at 11.42am.
A crew then remained at the scene overnight to monitor the situation.
A reinspection is believed to have taken place at 6am
this morning
.
Cops have urgently warned locals to stay clear of the blaze.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Derbyshire Police said: "Given the circumstances of the incident please avoid the area and be aware that other road closures may be required quickly."
The manager of the landmark pub the Cat and Fiddle told the BBC she was "nervous" about the fire spreading to the premises - as the building is full of highly flammable alcohol.
Melanie Selstrom told the BBC: "We noticed the smoke between 10:00 and 11:00, and for hours it was a safe distance away.
"But the wind keeps changing, and suddenly it goes much closer, and when you are in a building full of alcohol and gas, that made us nervous.

"The fire crews are keeping parts of the distillery wet and putting dams in the car park, and we are getting lots of updates, but it's left us feeling a bit shaky."
In a live Facebook broadcast, she added: "We've had a lot of enquiries for our safety and welfare and so far, touch wood, everyone's OK and the building is OK.
"The periphery is being taken care by Cheshire Fire Service and Derbyshire Fire service.
"We're discouraging people from visiting or coming up - there's ash and smoke in the vicinity and lots of emergency vehicles trying to do their job, so unless your journey is urgent I would avoid the area.
"There are plumes [of smoke] just behind us, but luckily I think they are getting further away. It's all hands on deck here. What a dramatic day."

The handheld, rechargeable fans being sold at a ‘very good price' that have shoppers racing to their nearest retail park

THEY'RE a godsend when it comes to trying to get some sleep on a hot night. But sticky temperatures can prove a problem when you leave the comfort of your cool home and head out. Sally took to the "I don't know if this a good deal but I've been to Currys and these Status handheld fans were only £3.99 each," she wrote alongside the picture. "They are USB rechargeable as well!" Advertisement Read more Bargain stories In addition, the fan - "built for breezy convenience" - has three speeds, a USB-C rechargeable battery, and an overcharge safety feature. It also comes with a dock, so you can stand it up on your desk or bedside table as well as holding it. And in the comments section on the Facebook post, people insisted the fan is one worth getting. "That's good, I got this last year - it was £9.99!" one wrote. Advertisement Most read in Fabulous "For anyone that wants to know there is loads in the Coventry one," another said. As a third called it a "very good price", someone else said: "I have one of these and they are extremely good. Advertisement "I paid £14.99 for two from Amazon and I thought that was a bargain." "Good price and brilliant - I've had one for years," someone else gushed. "I've got one. I got it from B&M a couple of years ago and I think they are really good," another said. Someone else admitted they'd paid £9 for the same fan in Dunelm, while another insisted they "need one for Disney". Advertisement Five ways to keep your kids cool in the heat IT can be really difficult - and costly - to keep kids cool when it's hot outside. But Fabulous Digital Senior Reporter and mum-of-two Sarah Bull shares five ways to help, and they won't break the budget either. Strip them off It might sound simple, but stripping kids off at home can really help them regulate their temperature when it's warm outside. Just remember to regularly apply suncream, as more of their skin will be exposed to the sun. Cool down bedrooms before nighttime When it's hot outside, it can be difficult for kids to go to sleep - especially if their bedroom feels like an oven. If you have a room that's not in direct sunshine, keep the windows open to let in a breeze. It's also a good idea to keep the curtains closed, to prevent the room from heating up. Wear a hat Another simple technique, but one that really works. Make sure that if your kids are playing outside, they've got a hat on. It keeps their face and head shielded from the sun, and also helps if you've got a little one who struggles with bright sunlight. If your tot struggles to keep a hat on, try one with a strap that goes under the chin to help. Avoid the car The car can be one of the hottest places during a heatwave, and often takes a long time to cool down. If you have the option, it's better to stay at home rather than taking kids out anywhere in a hot car. Stay hydrated This is always important, but even more so in a heatwave. Make sure you're regularly reminding your kids to have a drink, and top them up with cool liquids whenever you can. Use ice too to ensure it's as cold as it can possibly be. However, others said that the fans with the spray feature are better for a trip to somewhere like Florida. "Spray ones are great," another added. "I bought one in Florida still works now after 13 years, also got one from Home Bargains." "Yeah we got one when my Mrs was last pregnant - it was a godsend in the summer heat," a third commented. Advertisement The positive reviews kept on coming on the Dunelm website, as one person wrote: "Brilliant fans and can be left on e.g. a desk. "And has three settings!" "Does what it says, powerful fan, I would recommend," another added.

And forecasts indicate that regardless of how much of it hits the island, the warm spell will be short lived.
