Ireland heatwave hopes blown as ‘short lived' warm blast pinpointed amid new ‘weekend washout' Met Eireann forecast

The Irish Sun06-06-2025

HOPES of a heatwave hitting Ireland in the coming weeks have been dashed - with the country instead bracing for more rain.
And even when the weather heats up slightly - it doesn't look likely to last.

Last month, prolonged sunny spells saw 25C heat bake down across the country - leaving many with hopes that summer was here to stay.
But meteorologists have warned that another heatwave is unlikely to be on the cards until later in the season.
Although a warm blast of air will sweep near the country, it's not yet known how much of it will actually reach Ireland.
And forecasts indicate that regardless of how much of it hits the island, the warm spell will be short lived.

But forecasters have predicted a return to higher temperatures later in the month.
Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather said: "Weather models showing a very brief blast of warm air over Ireland this day next week but models differ on how much of it reaches Ireland.
"They do however agree that it will be a short lived either way.
"Still hope of more prolonged warm sunny spell later in month."

Met Eireann said: "Highest temperatures of 12C to 17C in light to moderate westerly breezes."
Tonight is forecast to be mostly cloudy with some "heavy bursts" of rain possible in Munster and south Leinster.
Temperatures will be between 6C and 10C.
Tomorrow, June 7, will bring on a wet weekend with some sunny spells scattered here and there.
DRY NIGHT
Weather experts predicted: "Damp or wet to begin tomorrow, Saturday, with cloud and rain gradually clearing eastwards, giving way to a mix of bright or sunny spells and showers spreading from the west.
"The showers will become largely confined to the east by evening.
"Highest temperatures of just 11C to 15C with moderate northwesterly winds developing and increasing fresh at times near coasts."
Saturday night is set to be mainly dry and clear, with temperatures between 4C and 9C.
Sunday will bring a mixture of both sun and showers, despite some cloud in the west and southwest.
BRIGHT & SUNNY
Westerly winds mean the temperature will sit between 13C and 17C.
And next week, the weather is set to be humid although unpredictable still.
Monday will bring cloud and drizzle which will be more "persistent" in Connacht and Ulster.
And similar predictions are in place for Tuesday with some brighter, sunnier conditions in the south of the country.
Met Eireann said: "Brighter, sunnier conditions further south with scattered showers.
"Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees in light to moderate westerly or variable breezes."
The general outlook from Tuesday onward is mild and humid but continuing to be changeable.

A "WEDGE" tornado is the informal name for a particular kind of storm. As the title suggests, these are tornadoes where the storm cuts a distinctive wedge shape against the sky. In a wedge tornado, the centre of the storm is highly-concentrated at a single spot, drawing in clouds from a wide area above. This is what give the storm such a tight triangular shape. The dense epicentre of a wedge tornado means the surrounding winds reach exceptional speeds - sometimes faster than 200mph. And that makes this kind of storm especially deadly.
