ALBAWABA - Dozens of thousands of people evacuated Canada's western Manitoba province on Wednesday amid a spreading wildfire.
"The Manitoba government has declared a province-wide state of emergency due to the wildfire situation," Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew announced in a press conference.
"This is the largest evacuation Manitoba will have seen in most people's living memory," he said, adding that over 17,000 people left the province.
Manitoba has declared a State of Emergency this afternoon as wildfires continue to rip across its province. The Premiere has asked Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, for activation of the military to help evacuate more than 17,000 people.

Manitoba Premier urged help from Canadian PM Mark Carney and asked him to send in the military with the evacuations and firefighting.
Rapidly, the Canadian government will be sending a military plane to help transfer people out of endangered remote northern communities to a safe place. In addition, the government will be sending more firefighting resources to help combat the spreading fires, Kinew mentioned.

Video: Two fighter jets damaged as Pro-Palestinian activists breach UK base
ALBAWABA - It was Friday that two activists from the pro-Palestinian group Palestine Action broke into a British Royal Air Force base and damaged two military planes as a protest against the UK's backing for Israeli military activities. Also Read Iran targets key Microsoft research building The accident took place at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, which is one of the biggest military airbases in the UK. The activists painted a Voyager plane red and used crowbars to do more damage, according to a statement from the group. The main things these planes do are refill and carry military supplies. Palestine Action posted a video of the event on social media and said it was a direct protest against Britain's continued military backing for Israel during the war in Gaza. According to Reuters, the group said in a statement, "Even though the UK publicly condemns Israel's actions, it continues to send weapons to Israel, fly surveillance over Gaza, and refuel Israeli and American fighter jets." The group said that the UK government was "not just involved, but actively involved in the genocide in Gaza and in war crimes across the Middle East." — Arab-Military (@ashrafnsier) June 20, 2025 Since the fighting in Gaza got worse, Palestine Action has become known for taking direct action against British military companies and institutions with ties to Israel. The group said that the targeted planes, which are Voyagers made by Airbus, can carry military weapons and refuel fighter jets from the UK, the US, and Israel while they are in the air. The UK Ministry of Defense has not yet made a public statement about the leak or how bad the damage is. There is probably a review going on.

Canadian Sikhs rally against India's Modi presence at G7
TRENTON, Canada Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney welcomed his Indian counterpart to the G7 summit Tuesday, despite protests over the murder of a Canadian Sikh separatist in Canada. Narendra Modi's invitation by Carney as chair of the G7 was protested Monday by hundreds in nearby Calgary, the city closest to the summit in the resort town of Kananaskis, but the number dropped to about 50 on Tuesday. Carney said it was ridiculous to exclude the head of a country that had one of the largest economies in the world. The two men met on the sidelines of the G7 as Modi was an invited guest, not a G7 member. 'It is my great honor to have you here,' Carney told Modi, shaking hands and smiling. Neither of them mentioned the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil in 2023. Then-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said there was enough evidence to suggest the murder was sanctioned by the Indian government. India denied the allegation. Nijjar was an ardent supporter of the Khalistan movement, which advocates for the creation of an independent Sikh homeland in India's Punjab region. India considered him a terrorist. Two years later, both countries realize the importance of closer ties as trade wars rip apart longstanding alliances. The two were particularly interested in partnerships in energy security, artificial intelligence and the fight against terrorism and covert interference in other countries' business. In the days leading up to the summit, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service said India was still a foreign interference threat to Canada. 'I'm sure, under your leadership, we will be able to work together in a positive way,' said Modi.
