Kostas Tsimikas makes Trent Alexander-Arnold exit admission after Liverpool supporters 'saw it differently'

Kostas Tsimikas says "the whole world must respect" Trent Alexander-Arnold's decision to leave Liverpool for Real Madrid. But the Reds defender also accepts the supporters' right to view the departure differently to the squad itself.

Alexander-Arnold joined los Blancos at the beginning of the month after the Reds engineered a £10m transfer for him to leave a month before his contract technically expired, meaning the Premier League champions bagged a sizable sum for a player who was on the cusp of a move as a free agent.
The West Derby-born defender was subjected to loud boos at Anfield when he made his second-half substitute appearance in the 2-2 draw against Arsenal last month and while Tsimikas says the team have not been offended by their former colleague's decision, he also understands the depth of emotion from those who reacted angrily.

"Okay, for Trent what to do," Tsimikas told Sport24. "After all, it's work. That was his choice, he wanted to see something else. Trent also goes to the best team, after Liverpool! (laughs).
"Okay, they are choices, from then on the whole world must respect it. When you make this decision, you have to be ready to accept everything, we are our choices. He wanted to leave, he chose it.
"From then on, you can see what he has given to the team, you see what Liverpool have got since Trent started playing.
"All you can do is give him a good, warm round of applause. Tell him good luck. Because what he gave is too many [memories]. It will be difficult for any other player, even a transfer with a lot of money, to be able to do what Trent did.

"But yes, surely the locals saw it differently, they expected the Scouser to stay forever, until he hung up his boots. This is what creates an extra tension."
Tsimikas added: "We within the team understood that he wants to leave, that there is no [obligation] to stay.
"That's what he wanted from the beginning, he wanted to play for Real, so from the beginning of the season it seemed like it was the last season, he wanted something different, as he said.
"I wish him all the best from the bottom of my heart, because we were very, very close. We made a lot of jokes together and it's hard to say goodbye to a player who every day we've been together for five years.

"I wish him all the best, without injuries and okay, you are a player, a great player, what can we discuss."
Alexander-Arnold made his Real Madrid debut in Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Al-Hilal in the Club World Cup.

Browns Shedeur Sanders Ticketed For Driving 101 MPH

Browns Shedeur Sanders Ticketed For Driving 101 MPH originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Shedeur Sanders' offseason had put together an impressive offseason to this point. Despite entering a crowded quarterbacks room with the Cleveland Browns, the fifth-round rookie showed his determination to move up the ranks. Advertisement His work has come mostly with second-teamers though leaving a positive impression on his coaches nonetheless. Up until Tuesday the dialogue seemed to turn a corner. However, a reckless decision now has fans questioning his true intentions of succeeding on the professional stage. Police pulled over and ticketed Sanders for allegedly driving over 100mph, according to FOX 8 in Cleveland. The incident occurred in Strongsville, a suburb in the Cleveland area. Strongsville police records show that an officer stopped Sanders on 71 North around 12:24 a.m. on Tuesday. The report indicates Sanders was clocked at a speed of 101 mph, 41 mph over the limit. Advertisement The station reached out to the Browns who have yet to comment on the matter. Sanders can either pay the fine that comes with the citation or contest it in court. While there is no serious criminal offense here the mistake is poorly timed on Sanders part now finally removed from the hysteria of a historic draft slide. Once a potential No. 1 overall pick, Sanders plummeted down the draft board until Cleveland selected him in the fifth round. Much of slide had to do with Sanders' handling of the pre-draft process and the impression he left on prospective teams. While speeding isn't a felony crime, it does add fuel to the fiery narrative that suggested Shedeur was "arrogant" and "entitled." It's certainly not a career-ender for Sanders by any means. But for an already polarizing player, Sanders gave his team and their fans additional reason to question his prospects as a starting quarterback. Advertisement He is the one shouldered with making up ground in this quarterback competition and may have set himself back in the eyes of the coaching staff after this mistake. Birmingham City face one problem that Ipswich didn't have two years ago

Birmingham City want to add their name to the short list of clubs that have achieved back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League. Blues appointed Chris Davies to go on 'a journey' with them last summer and recruited such quality that their stay in League One was only ever going to be a short one. Advertisement Now that Blues are back in the Championship, the ultimate aim is to do what Ipswich Town did in 2024 by going all the way from League One to the Premier League in successive seasons. Blues made light work of their first promotion, with an EFL-record 111 points, but can they emulate Ipswich? Advertisement While there are stacks of similarities between the two teams, not least the playing style and the fact Blues already have an XI in place to hit the ground running in August, there is one major difference. Ipswich were able to travel under the radar to begin with, whereas Blues won't be afforded that luxury due to their record-breaking season and their transfer spend last summer, not to mention the £3 billion Sports Quarter that is bubbling away in the background. Ipswich supporter and EFL vlogger Benjamin Bloom told the Keep Right On Podcast: 'The one thing that Ipswich had that Birmingham City categorically will not is the whole world and his mother can see Birmingham coming. No one really saw Ipswich coming. 'You said the stat, 12 wins in 14 – even me as an Ipswich fan, I'm saying 'OK, if we can ride this out we might get in the play-offs here'. No one saw it riding out to 96 points. Advertisement 'From day one, everybody is expecting Birmingham to have a good season. Everyone is going, 'OK, three year-one parachute payment teams, plus Sheffield United…' 'Who is the next team they mention? It's not Middlesbrough, it's not Norwich, it's not West Brom, it's not Watford, it's Birmingham.' Will Blues secure back-to-back promotions? Have your say HERE

Messi's 'winning spirit' surprising: Inter Miami's Mascherano

Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano hailed Lionel Messi's winning mentality after the 2-1 win over Porto at the Club World Cup on Thursday. (ALEX GRIMM) Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano admitted he is surprised at Lionel Messi's desire to win after the MLS side shocked Porto at the Club World Cup on Thursday. Veteran playmaker Messi curled home a fine free-kick in a man-of-the-match performance at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, the winning goal in Miami's 2-1 Group A victory over their Portuguese opponents. Advertisement Mascherano said his Argentine compatriot's competitive spirit at 37 was more surprising to him than the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner's quality. "Beyond his goal... he's a player who shows us how to compete, his hunger, his desire to continue competing at whatever level it is," Mascherano told reporters. "In a footballing sense, what else is there to say? He's the best player that has played this sport in its history, but what is surprising is his will to win. "Today, even in the last minutes, tired, with a knock, he kept helping the team in any way he could, in attack, in defence, to get the result... Advertisement "We know having him gives us an advantage, but above all, through his contagious spirit, the winning spirit that he has." Many expected Porto to beat Inter Miami but the American side recorded a first ever victory in a competitive match for an MLS team against European opposition and the first shock at the Club World Cup. "I think that we understood that in football there are obviously hierarchies, and we were facing against a team at a high level, with international players," said Mascherano. "But we were convinced that if we did what we had to do, if we had a plan, if we supported each other, if we were together, but above all, if we dared to play, we could compete." Advertisement Samu Aghehowa netted a first-half penalty for Porto but Telasco Segovia and Messi's strikes after the break earned Inter Miami victory which puts them level on four points with Palmeiras at the top of the group. "What I told them (at half-time) was... to raise their spirits, because we had clearly showed we could compete, and that we had reached a moment where I didn't care about the result," added Mascherano. "What I was interested in was showing we were capable of playing with and without the ball, and they understood, they picked themselves up and in the end it was a great afternoon for us." rbs/sev
