Los Angeles Rams quickly sign college football's leading tackler as undrafted free agent

Yahoo27-04-2025

The NFL's objective is to invite every player who is expected to be drafted to the scouting combine. It didn't invite college football's leading tackler.
The league was right. Shaun Dolac didn't get picked in the 2025 NFL Draft, but he's been beating the odds his entire life.

The University at Buffalo linebacker quickly signed with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent shortly after the draft wrapped up Saturday, according to multiple reports.
Dolac, 23, led college football with 168 tackles and 177 total interception return yards in 2024. The 168 tackles are 10th most in a single season in the last 20 years. He also recorded six sacks and five interceptions last year.
Dolac was a Consensus All-American and the MAC Defensive Player of the Year last year. He became the first University at Buffalo Associated Press All-American, something not even accomplished by Khalil Mack.
Dolac was joined on the Consensus All-American Team by nine players who were selected in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft: QB Cam Ward, CB/WR Travis Hunter, DE Abdul Carter, OT Will Campbell, DT Mason Graham, RB Ashton Jeanty, WR Tetairoa McMillan, OT Kelvin Banks Jr., and DT Walter Nolen.

The league sent NFL Combine invites to 329 prospects, including 29 linebackers. It's impossible to perfectly predict every player who will be drafted but Dolac's resume seemed worthy of showcasing his skills at the pre-draft showcase. He did not receive an invitation to the Senior Bowl, either.
Dolac ran the 40-yard dash in an unofficial 4.55 seconds, with a 32.5" vertical jump and 25 bench press reps at the Bulls pro day. His pro day performances would've put him first in the shuttle, tied for first in the broad jump, third in the bench press, sixth in the 40-yard dash and seventh in the vertical jump among linebackers at the combine. Dolac is listed at 6-foot-1 and 225 pounds.
Dolac is from West Seneca, Erie County, about five miles north of the Buffalo Bills stadium in Orchard Park. He led West Seneca East to the state title game in 2018, spent a year at Milford Academy in Connecticut, and walked on to play for the Bulls in 2020. Dolac was awarded a scholarship in 2021. He was second in the FBS in tackles in 2022. A shoulder injury ended Dolac's 2023 season after four games.
He finished his college career with 391 tackles, 12.5 sacks, 42 tackles for loss, six interceptions, three forced fumbles and 12 passes defended in 49 games.

Dolac participated in the Bills' local pro day on April 11.
The Bills had three University at Buffalo alumni on their roster last year: Cam Lewis, Ja'Marcus Ingram and Joe Andreesen.
The Rams lost linebackers Christian Rozeboom and Jacob Hummel and outside linebacker Michael Hoecht in free agency. Rozeboom led Los Angeles with 135 tackles.

IndyCar Unveils the 2028 Race Car

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. IndyCar announced the new car for the 2028 season, which will be ready for testing in 2026. The American racing series revealed the new race car while at the Road America track ahead of the XPEL Grand Prix. Dallara is producing the new chassis for the car, continuing as the exclusive chassis for IndyCar as it has since 2008. The series officials plan on the new design improving the racing throughout all four track types and pushing the car's development further. "The time has come for a new NTT INDYCAR SERIES chassis," INDYCAR President Douglas Boles said in a statement. "The DW12 served the series so well, as it provided a combination of phenomenal, wheel-to-wheel racing and critical enhancements to safety. "But recent significant updates to the car - from the aeroscreen to the hybrid power unit - have helped advance the need for a completely new car. "We are pleased by what our engineers and Dallara have collaboratively designed and believe it will appeal to the fans and paddock while also upholding our standards of safety and enhancing INDYCAR's on-track competition well into the future." The 2028 car features a projected weight of 85-100 pounds compared to the current model. The engine is going to become a 2.4-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 internal combustion engine, which should be more powerful. Photo by Miguel will create the power supply as it has since 2000. They designed the engine to be 25 pounds lighter and to use more electrical power. The new model is still not set, as the designers and engineers are still rounding out the rough edges of the design. IndyCar stated that further details and renderings of the design are yet to come. It is unclear when the timeline for its unveiling will. While the features and promise of the new car sound nice, there is still much to be learned from testing to see if it can deliver better racing than the current generation of cars. IndyCar's European competitor, Formula 1, introduced a new set of regulations in 2022, which promised better racing, but the cars are creating more dirty air than ever, making it harder for cars to follow others. If they manage to develop a meaningful improvement over the current car that races better across the different tracks, the series' unique tracks could shine more, setting it apart from any other motorsport in the world and continuing to compete with F1.

Bradley Chubb admits to ‘lying' about Dolphins' culture change

The post Bradley Chubb admits to 'lying' about Dolphins' culture change appeared first on ClutchPoints. When the Miami Dolphins decided to part ways with Vic Fangio after the 203 NFL season, it was supposed to 'fix' the team's cultural issues. Advertisement The Dolphins players didn't like Fangio's old-school ways, made that known down the stretch, and when he was finally relieved of his duties – allowed to instead lead the Philadelphia Eagles to the Super Bowl – the hiring of Anthony Weaver was supposed to finally get things back on track. And yet, even one of the team's defensive leaders, Bradley Chubb, admitted to reporters at camp that a cultural change simply didn't happen, as the Dolphins put a to – read: fin – into the water instead of going all-in on the change. While the Dolphins still finished second in the AFC East in 2024, they took major steps back from 2023, with their total number of wins, point differential, and offensive rating all taking major steps backward. Still, their defense did improve under Weaver, so who knows? Maybe a renewed commitment to playing defense the right way could correspond with a return to the playoffs if the Dolphins' offense can get back on track. 'We're Going To Win!' Bold Announcement Issued by Cowboys Coach Brian Schottenheimer

'We're Going To Win!' Bold Announcement Issued by Cowboys Coach Brian Schottenheimer originally appeared on Athlon Sports. FRISCO - Part of new Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer's point in his recent proclamation about the fate of his 2025 team was a prideful boast about his coaching staff. Advertisement And when he said it? No doubt the assistants around here felt their ears perk up and their eyebrows raise and their chests puff out. "We're going to win,'' Schotty said. "And when we win, they're going to want to steal our coaches, because we're going to win.'' The coaching-related concept, in a nutshell? The 2025 Cowboys are going to shock the world (as all teams believe they will) and eventually, lower-level staffers will become coordinators and coordinators will become head coaches and everybody's going to someday be enshrined in Canton. More immediately? Schotty's statement demostrates a clarity of vision and an energetic vibe and a confidence to load pressure upon his 51-year-old shoulders ... Advertisement Even though he's never done this before. Schottenheimer, you'll notice, isn't talking about a "rebuilt.'' He's too hungry for that, and his boss, Jerry Jones, at age 82 may be too old for that. So there is a "The Time Is Now'' feel to what Schottenheimer is doing - even though this is his first go-around as a head coach - and to a great degree, there is that same feel in much of what the front office has done in roster-building. There are some realities to deal with, of course. In the NFC East alone, the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles have what seems to be a better roster than Dallas has. And the Washington Commanders just went to the NFC Championship Game (and lost to Philly) ... a destination Dallas hasn't reached in 30 years. Advertisement So Schotty's bunch is challenged, at this point, to simply be better than third-best in its own division. But he has waited a long time for the chance; almost a coincidental 30 years, in fact. And the confidence is not fake. "That's fine,'' he said of the idea that a successful Cowboys staff will be raided by rivals. "If they come for my coaches, it means we did everything as it should be.'' It seems like quite an "if.'' But Schotty's got the building - and maybe Cowboys Nation - believing.
