Perth obstetrician accused of manslaughter of Elizabeth Pearce hit with more charges
The Perth obstetrician charged with manslaughter over the road death of Elizabeth Pearce in Dalkeith in February has been hit with further charges.
Rhys Bellinge was allegedly behind the wheel of a high-powered sedan that struck a rideshare car on Birdwood Parade on Saturday February 15, with the crash claiming the life of 24-year-old Ms Pearce.
He was allegedly speeding at 130 kilometres per hour, and police say he later returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.183.
Now Dr Bellinge, who was denied bail at a bedside hearing in February, has been hit with four fresh charges, relating to the Sunday night before he is alleged to have killed Ms Pearce.
Police allege that on February 9, Dr Bellinge exceeded the speed limit by more than 45 kph on three separate occasions — the first being at 8:05pm, when they say he travelled at 119 kph in a 70 kph zone on Thomas Street in Subiaco.
Then, at about 8:10pm, he is alleged to have hit a speed of 112 kph in a 60 kph zone on Winthrop Avenue in Nedlands.
Ten minutes later, according to police, Dr Bellinge travelled on the wrong side of the road in May Drive in Kings Park.
Then police allege that about 8:30pm he travelled at 103 kph on Victoria Avenue in Dalkeith, a 50 kph zone.
Officers from the Major Crash unit have charged the 45-year-old with three counts of exceeding the speed limit by more than 45 kph, and one count of dangerous driving.
Dr Bellinge is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on June 5.

WARNING: Disturbing content A woman jailed for having sexual intercourse with her mother's dog and accessing child abuse material will have four months shaved off her sentence after winning an appeal. Jennifer Cook pleaded guilty to one count each of using a carriage service to access child exploitation material, using a carriage service to transmit and make available child exploitation material, and committing an act of bestiality with an animal in April last year. A video of Cook engaging in sexual intercourse with her mother's dog was found on her phone as well as the phone of her former partner and co-offender Benjamin Day after their home was raided by the Australian Federal Police in September 2022. Cook had also accessed child abuse material (CAM) between 2020 and 2022, including animations or cartoons, videos, and a real image. Further details of the offending are too disturbing to publish. Cook was ultimately jailed for 3½ years, with a non-parole period of two years. She has since turned to NSW's Court of Criminal Appeal (CCA) to challenge parts of her sentence, arguing the judge made a mistake in determining the seriousness of the charge related to accessing CAM. A recently published judgment on the appeal confirmed that the statement of agreed facts incorrectly stated two images found on Cook's devices depicted real children when there was only one. While this was raised by Cook's counsel at sentencing and conceded by the prosecution, the facts were not formally corrected. Justice Stephen Rothman found this meant the sentencing judge determined the seriousness of the offence 'based on a mistake of fact'. 'It is unfortunate that the sentencing judge was misled in the agreed facts and the correction was not formalised,' Justice Rothman said in the judgment. 'A mistake of fact is an identifiable error and permits the court on appeal to intervene in the sentence imposed.' It was not suggested Cook or her co-offender had themselves filmed a real person being abused. Cook also argued in her appeal that her sentence was 'manifestly excessive' and the judge had erred in determining the threshold for a custodial sentence was met. Justice Rothman found the threshold was passed in each offence 'given the seriousness and depravity of the offending', even when it did not involve an image of a real child. The Crown ultimately argued that Cook's entire appeal should be dismissed, and if it was allowed, a lesser sentence was not warranted. Justice Rothman decided that Cook's original sentence should be quashed and a fresh one of three years and two months' jail, with a non-parole period of two years and 10 months, dated to March 25, 2023, be imposed. This sentence will be four months shorter than Cook's initial sentence. She will be eligible for parole on June 24, 2025. Justice Rothman noted in his judgment that Cook suffered emotional abuse and struggled with substance abuse and mental health disorders. Cook's co-accused has also lodged an intention to appeal his sentence; however, no dates have been set at the time of publication. He was charged with several bestiality and CAM offences and sentenced to an aggregate term of three years and nine months' jail, with a non-parole period of two years and six months.

Woman arrested after wild pre-flight Virgin freakout in Perth
A 28-year-old Perth woman has been removed from a Virgin flight bound for Melbourne after starting a verbal altercation with airline staff. Australian Federal Police were reportedly called to a flight waiting to leave Perth Airport after a woman began to act erratically on the outbound plane, which had yet to depart its gate. Footage shows the woman verbally accosting a flight attendant, apparently over a disagreement revolving around her possession of a 'bum bag'. 'You're telling me to take my clothes off on a plane, f*** off,' says the woman in the footage, directing her vitriolic barrage towards a flight attendant standing in the aisle. 'No I didn't say that … you had a bum bag on, in the event of an evacuation we need to make sure you're safe and everyone else is safe,' the attendant replies calmly. Another member of the crew then ushers the attendant away, before staff tell the woman the AFP will 'deal with' her. 7News reports the woman was eventually ushered off the plane by AFP officers and then arrested and formally charged. The AFP and Virgin have been contacted for comment.

Search for Regen, 21, last seen leaving his home in Ngukurr
Police hold concerns for the welfare of 21-year-old Regen who left his home in the Roper Gulf Region on Sunday morning and has not been seen since. It is believed Regen left his Ngukurr home at 6am, and may have been heading to the Nulawan Outstation, 23km to the east of the Ngukurr community. The Search and Rescue Section (SRS) and local police are currently conducting a land search and rescue operation around the community. The SRS are currently co-ordinating aerial assets and ground teams in response to the situation.
