Mohali police conduct operation CASO in Peer Muchhalla societies

Mohali: As part of its ongoing crackdown on anti-social elements, the police conducted a massive cordon and search operation under operation CASO in various residential societies of Peer Muchhalla on Sunday morning.
The operation was carried out under the directives of DGP, Punjab, and SSP Mohali. Over 350 police personnel were deployed for simultaneous checks across multiple societies, including Pink City, Royal Mansion 2, and Metro Town, between 6:30 am and 9:00 am.
Mohali SP Manpreet Singh, who led the operation, said the action was part of a broader campaign to weed out anti-social elements and ensure public safety. "During the search, special attention was paid to suspicious individuals, vehicles, and unattended items.
Vehicles that appeared to be parked for extended periods were verified to rule out any criminal activity," said the SP.
Inspector Jashanpreet Singh, in-charge of Dhakoli police station, confirmed that no suspicious objects were recovered during the operation. However, eight individuals were detained for verification from various societies. "They were later released after questioning, as nothing incriminating was found against them," he said.
The police have assured residents that such surprise checks will continue in the coming days to build a sense of security in the area and prevent the harbouring of criminals in residential spaces. The police have also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.

Punjab Police busts Pak-linked BKI module; arrest one, seize six pistols

Punjab Police on Saturday said it has dismantled a Pakistan-backed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module operated by UK-based handler Dharam Singh alias Dharma Sandhu. Police have arrested a local operative of the module and recovered six foreign-made pistols from his possession, DGP Gaurav Yadav said. The accused has been identified as Onkar Singh alias Nawab, a resident of Jalalusma village in Amritsar district. The seized weapons, smuggled via drones from across the border, include four 9 mm Glock pistols and two .30 bore pistols, the DGP said. Dharam Singh, who operated the terror module, is a close associate of Pakistan-based terrorist Harvinder Singh alias Rinda. Further investigation is underway to unearth the broader network of the module, the DGP said. Sharing operation details, Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the arrest followed precise intelligence inputs and coordination. "During interrogation, the accused disclosed that the weapons delivered via drones were meant for disruptive activities," Yadav said. Preliminary investigation revealed that Onkar Singh was part of a sleeper cell activated by foreign-based handlers to destabilise the state. "The weapons were meant to be distributed among local operatives to execute targeted killings and terror activities Punjab. We are working to uncover the entire network and its international linkages," Bhullar said.

Anna University sexual assault case: Plea in Madras High Court insists on inquiring Annamalai to find out who is that ‘sir'

A writ petition has been filed in the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the Direcor General of Police (DGP) and the Inspector of Kotturpuram police station in Chennai to conduct an inquiry regarding Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) former State president K. Annamalai's claim that he was in possession of certain records related to the Anna University sexual assault case. The writ petition (criminal) has been numbered and expected to be listed before Justice P. Velmurugan this week. Advoate M.L. Ravi, also the president of Desiya Makkal Sakthi Katchi, had filed the petition. The petitioner had sought a direction to the DGP to instruct the Inspector to register a First Information Report (FIR) on the basis of a complaint lodged by the writ petitioner on May 31, 2025. The petitioner stated that a woman engineering student had been subjected to sexual abuse at the Anna University campus in Chennai by biriyani seller D. Gnanasekar on December 23, 2024. According to the victim, the aggressor had intervened when she was close with her boyfriend and threatened that he would disclose the incident to the top brass of the college if she does not budge to his sexual desire. The victim had also claimed that the aggressor had spoken on phone to someone by referring to the person on the other end as 'sir' and used the phone call to sexually assault her. Most Opposition political parties in the State wanted to know 'Who was that sir?' However, the police, continued to maintain that Gnanasekar had operated alone and that he had only pretended to talk to someone while keeping his phone on flight mode. Yet, the police did not choose to inquire him regarding the reported materials in his possession, despite a specific representation made by the writ peitioner in February 2025 and ended up filing a charge sheet only against Gnanasekar. After a speedy trial, the Mahila Court in Chennai convicted Gnanasekar on May 28, 2025 and pronounced the sentence on June 2, 2025. Even after the conviction, Mr. Annamalai continued to maintain that he was in possession of records to prove the link of others too. Therefore, the petitioner had lodged a complaint with the police on May 31, 2025 to inquire Mr. Annamalai in connection with the case. He wanted this complaint to be registered, and an inquiry initiated to find out if there was really any 'sir' involved in the crime.

Tapgate SIT asks Bandi to appear as witness

HYDERABAD: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged phone-tapping case has summoned Minister of State (Home Affairs) Bandi Sanjay to appear before it as a witness under Section 161 CrPC. SIT sources confirmed that the team asked Sanjay to record his statement regarding the alleged tapping of his phone during the BRS regime. The sources stated that Sanjay told the investigators that he would inform them of the date and time he would appear. Meanwhile, former Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) chief and prime accused in the case, T Prabhakar Rao, reportedly told investigators that he acted only on the instructions of his senior officers and had no links with any leaders of the previous BRS regime. During questioning on Friday, Prabhakar Rao is believed to have stated: 'I do not have any connections with any key figures in the BRS government and carried out my duties as per the directions of higher officials.' Sources said Prabhakar Rao claimed he was following the orders of a former DGP and denied any association with political parties. He also maintained that no rules drafted by a committee of senior officials were breached. Prabhakar Rao appeared before the Investigating Officer at Jubilee Hills police station for the fifth consecutive day of questioning on Friday. Sources said that he repeatedly responded that he could not remember or was unaware of several matters raised by the IO.
