Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) pulled the pin to perfection in the Tissot Sprint at Silverstone on Saturday, flying to victory by over three seconds after out-pacing Championship leader Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team).
The battle for the podium was a gloves-off throwdown behind, with Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Team) coming out on top in a five-rider scrap.
Quartararo took the holeshot from pole as the Ducati trio behind scuffled over second, with Alex Marquez able to grab it back despite a lunge round the outside from Marc Marquez, the #93 having launched from fourth and sending it.
So El Diablo led Alex, Marc and Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team), but by the end of the Wellington Straight on Lap 1 the #93 was up into second. By the end of the Hangar Straight, Marc Marquez was through into the lead. It seemed ominous with six Sprint wins in a row behind him but there was time left on the clock yet this time round, and Alex Marquez was soon on his tail after himself dispatching Quartararo over the line. Not long after, Marc Marquez was wide at Turn 3 and the #73 needed no invitation, taking over in the lead and the duo then starting to build a gap, leaving Quartararo vs Bagnaia vs Diggia as the battle for third.
Bagnaia was past the Yamaha not long after and the #49 was able to follow suit, but there was a spectacular Fabio-on-Fabio duel for it. As Diggia closed in on Bagnaia, Quartararo suddenly seemed to surge closer to them again too – but by then Johann Zarco (CastrolHonda LCR) was on the way to get involved.
And even more so, Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing), as the #72 put on a serious charge after having dropped well outside the top ten off the line.

JJ Spaun has won the US Open golf championship by two shots from Robert MacIntyre after draining an incredible 64-foot birdie putt that snaked across a sodden 18th green following a chaotic final round at the Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania, United States. 'Just to finish it off like that is just a dream,' the Californian said after claiming his first major on Sunday. 'To have my own moment like that at this championship, I'll never forget this moment for the rest of my life.' Spaun needed only a par at the closing hole to avoid a Monday playoff but went one better, sinking the huge putt in the rain to win the year's third major and erase the disappointment from his close call at The Players Championship in March. When the clinching putt dropped, Spaun tossed his putter, delivered a fist pump, hugged his caddie and then walked off the green with his two young daughters in tow on Father's Day to celebrate a career-defining win. 'It was so cool to just have my whole family there on Father's Day,' Spaun said. 'It's just incredible. I have no words to describe the moment and them being able to see me as the winner.' Spaun reached the drivable par-four 17th hole level with Scotland's MacIntyre, who was already in the clubhouse after a two-under 68, and delivered the shot of his life – a 309-yard strike that settled 17 feet from the cup. The 34-year-old American sent his eagle putt past the hole but made the comebacker, and then went on to secure the win in style at the 18th, where he said he did not look at the scoreboard so as not to alter his plan. 'I knew based off of, like, what the crowd was saying that I felt like if I two-putted I would probably win, but I didn't want to look,' said Spaun. 'I didn't want to do anything dumb trying to protect a three-putt or something.' The final round was interrupted by a 96-minute weather delay after heavy rains forced puddles of water to form on the greens and fairways and forced the grounds crew at Oakmont to use squeegees to get the course ready. The triumph comes three months after Spaun lost in a playoff to world number two Rory McIlroy at The Players Championship, a defeat which was hard to take but left him knowing he could mix it with the game's elite. Viktor Hovland (73) finished three shots back in third place, while Cameron Young (70) and LIV Golf players Tyrrell Hatton (72) and Carlos Ortiz (73) finished a further shot back in a share of fourth place. Sam Burns (78), who took a one-shot lead over Spaun and Adam Scott into the final round, struggled late in his round and finished five shots back. Twice major champion Jon Rahm, who began the day 11 shots back, closed with a three-under 67 that was the day's joint low round, with the Spaniard finishing five shots back in a share of seventh with world number one Scottie Scheffler (70) and Burns. World number two Rory McIlroy also saved his best for last and carded a 67 to reach seven over. McIlroy, who had been struggling to find form since completing the career Grand Slam at the Masters, is looking forward to some downtime before the British Open being held next month at Royal Portrush in his home country of Northern Ireland. 'I just need to get myself in the right frame of mind. I probably haven't been there the last few weeks,' McIlroy said. 'But as I said, getting home and having a couple of weeks off before that, hopefully feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, will get me in the right place again.'

Spurs reach agreement with Brentford on Frank as coach
PA Media/dpa London Tottenham have reached an agreement with Brentford to make Thomas Frank their next head coach, the PA news agency understands. Spurs quickly set their sights on Frank after Ange Postecoglou was sacked last week – only 16 days after he secured Europa League success – and made an official approach to Brentford on Monday. Discussions between Tottenham and Brentford initially centred on Frank's current terms at the west London club, which were set to run until the summer of 2027 and contained a release clause reportedly in the region of £10 million ($13.6 million). Further talks were required over which backroom staff Frank would take to Spurs but, after days of negotiations, a deal was struck with Brentford on Thursday, PA understands. Highly-rated Brentford first-team coach Justin Cochrane is set to follow Frank to Tottenham and in the process return to the club where he started his coaching journey. London-born Cochrane has been part of Frank's backroom staff since 2022, after he initially developed as a coach in Spurs' youth-team before a spell at Manchester United. Cochrane, 43, has earned a reputation as one of the brightest coaches in England and earlier this year joined Thomas Tuchel's coaching staff for the national team alongside his role at Brentford under Frank. Frank would take over a Spurs side which won a trophy for the first time since 2008 with victory in the Europa League final last month but finished 17th in the Premier League. The ex-Brondby boss has transformed Brentford during his seven-year spell in charge, with promotion from the Championship in 2021 followed by him establishing the club as a Premier League regular despite a modest budget. Christian Eriksen, who played under Frank at Brentford and starred during a seven-year spell at Spurs, backed his compatriot to be a success at his former club. 'I think he is the right coach for Tottenham,' Eriksen told Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet. 'I have had Thomas at various times and I think he is the perfect match for Tottenham, and it would be great if Thomas takes on that challenge. 'His personality, his way of playing and his way of being. And the club considering where they were last season - they won a trophy of course - but they are in the process of building something up, and I am sure that Thomas is a good man to bring in.'

Marc wins Aragon GP sprint to extend lead in title race
Agencies Alcaniz (Spain) Spanish rider Marc Marquez maintained his dominance of the sprint races this season by winning the Aragon leg on Saturday for his seventh victory out of the eight raced. The 32-year-old Ducati rider extended his lead in the overall standings over his younger brother Alex (Ducati-Gresini), who finished second. Marc leads Alex by 27 points. Marc Marquez, who has won the Aragon MotoGP six times in 10 appearances, was headed by his brother at the first corner but passed him at the halfway stage and eased home. 'I had a problem at the start,' explained Marc Marquez. 'My plan had been to lead from the start and open up a big lead but for the first three laps I really had to push to get back at Alex. 'When I did get ahead I had to take care of my rear tyre. 'In the end everything went perfectly today.' Rookie Fermin Aldeguer of Ducati-Gresini finished third to make it an all-Spanish podium. Both Marquez brothers will start on the front row of the grid in Sunday's MotoGP -- the eighth of 22 Grand Prix -- Marc having taken pole earlier on Saturday. Italy's Franco Morbidelli (Ducati-VR46), who finished fourth in the sprint, fills the front row places. Morbidelli's compatriot two-time world champion Francesco Bagnaia was the big loser, starting from fourth spot Marc Marquez's team-mate could only finish 12th, and is 84 points adrift of the Spaniard in the standings. Marquez is seeking to end a three-race losing run, having got off to a blistering start with three wins in the first four MotoGPs.
