Pedestrian dead after crash on Barker Road in Pittsfield

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – One person is dead after a pedestrian crash on Barker Road in Pittsfield Monday afternoon.
Pittsfield event commemorates 250 years since Fort Ticonderoga plan
The Pittsfield Police Department states that on Monday at 2:38 p.m., officers and fire crews were sent to the area of 444 Barker Road for a report that a motor vehicle struck a pedestrian. A 2009 Lincoln Town Car, driven by 85-year-old Ricco Dus of Pittsfield, was heading north on Barker Road when he struck a pedestrian that was also walking north.
The pedestrian, 62-year-old Shawn Ouillette of Pittsfield, was taken to Baystate Medical Center, where he died due to his injures.
Barker Road was closed from South Mountain Road to Tamarack Road for two hours while an investigation took place. If anyone witnessed the crash or has any information, call 413-448-9700.

Investigators allege that a driver, later identified as 32-year-old Naisha Rodriguez of Springfield, hit the trooper and drove away. She was arrested at her home later that day. Rodriguez pleaded not guilty to charges of operating under the influence causing serious bodily injury, misleading a police investigation, and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash causing personal injury. She is due back in Chicopee District Court on July 10. State Police Col. Geoffrey Noble visited Clark in the hospital last week and said his spirits were good. Noble said Clark has been with the State Police for less than a year, but described him as a "seasoned police officer" who has worked in law enforcement for over a decade. Noble said at the time that Clark is eager to get back to work, but "he's in for a long recovery."

Police ID man arrested after chase with officers, crash in west Lubbock

Police on Monday identified a 21-year-old man accused of leading officers on a chase that ended in a crash with another vehicle early Saturday in west Lubbock. The chase began after a Lubbock police officer reportedly saw a Lincoln Town Car driving recklessly around 3:11 a.m. in the 5800 block of 19th Street and attempted to make a traffic stop, according to a statement from LPD. The driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old Diego Castillo, is accused of fleeing from the scene, prompting the pursuing. The vehicle was traveling south in the 4500 block of West Loop 289 and exited at the Marsha Sharp Freeway, where it attempted to pass a pickup truck that was in front of it. However, the car collided with the truck. Police say Castillo attempted to flee on foot, but was arrested a short time later. He was taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center. He faces charges of reckless driving, evading in a vehicle, evading on foot, possession of marijuana, failure to ID and failure to stop and render aid, along with an unrelated warrant. Jail records indicate Castillo was no longer in the detention center as of Monday. The driver of the pickup suffered minor injuries. The incident remains under investigation.
