Dundee firebug who torched cars for gangsters branded 'Scotland's dumbest criminal'

The Courier25-05-2025

A hapless enforcer who set fire to himself while torching a car in Dundee has been dubbed 'Scotland's dumbest criminal' by a sheriff.
Darren Gibb was acting on the orders of gangland figures to set fire to three vehicles across Dundee in targeted attacks.
The crook caused £42,000 worth of damage to a Volkswagen Golf, a Toyota Aygo, an Audi A6 and a Mercedes-Benz.
Dramatic video footage played to Dundee Sheriff Court showed the ferocious flames that engulfed the cars, which were started with accelerant.
Residents in the Charleston Drive area overheard a 'loud bang' in the early hours of September 19 last year.
Prosecutor Stephanie Paterson said: 'One of the witnesses looked out the living room window and could see the silver Volkswagen Golf to be on fire.
'Two to three males in black were seen to run away.
'The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended to extinguished the blaze and deemed it to be wilful.'
Plastic on the back of the nearby Toyota Aygo was damaged as a result of the fire with scene examiners later discovering the melted remains of a jerry can within a black rucksack.
Gormless Gibb left the key fob to his partner's home at the scene of the crime.
On October 24, the 33-year-old struck again after hiring a taxi to an address in Kirkton shortly after 4am.
Ms Paterson said: 'At around 5.15am, the witness was woken by a loud bang at the front door and observed the silver Audi in the driveway on fire with flames emanating from the wheel arches.
'The words 'let's go Megan' were spray painted on the ground.
'This related to the daughter of a neighbour.'
Gibb was caught on Ring doorbell footage two days later setting fire to the Audi on the same street.
He again used accelerant on the bonnet of the car, before running away in the direction of Old Glamis Road.
The desperate owner used a hose to try to put out the flames before fire crews and police descended on the scene.
Police arrested Gibb a short distance away and the firebug, who had burn marks on his hand, replied: 'I've not done nothing at all.'
Gibb's clothing smelled of petrol with the court hearing how part of his jacket had been melted.
Officers later searched his partner's flat, where nozzles for jerry cans were discovered in a vacuum pack.
Perth prisoner Gibb pled guilty to three charges of wilful fireraising on two separate streets in Dundee.
Solicitor Mike Short said Gibb 'chose to follow instructions' from more serious and organised criminals.
'He set fire to himself clearly in one of the videos,' Sheriff Tim Niven-Smith said.
'He's running with one of his hands on fire because the accelerant has gone on himself – Scotland's dumbest criminal.'
Sentence was deferred until next month for a report which will assess the potential for an extended sentence and a supervised release order.

Kanye West's wife Bianca Censori defiant in candy bikini after 50 Cent attack

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Bianca Censori has stepped out in yet another ultra-revealing ensemble, wearing just a tiny candy bikini on an outing with husband Kanye West. Since the Australian model, 30, married the rapper, 48, in 2022, the public has become accustomed to seeing rather a lot of her, whether it be her totally sheer Grammys dress or a barely-there underwear set. Consequently, concerns have been raised for her welfare, with the internet convinced that Ye is dictating what his spouse wears, especially given that he will always be fully clothed next to her. But as speculation about the nature of her marriage to Ye rages on, Bianca turned heads once more on Saturday with plenty of skin on show. She and the Yeezy fashion designer were seen exiting a chrome Mercedes-Maybach before arriving at the Mercer Hotel in New York, later making their way to a Brooklyn studio. In just her bra and a thong, Bianca's skimpy attire was made entirely out of sweets, not holding much in. Whether or not it was real, edible candy is anyone's guess, but we can't imagine it's the kind of look you'd see an Oompa Loompa rocking in the Chocolate Factory. The brunette wore her long locks in a sleek, straight style, was clutching her phone, and added a pair of metallic silver heels. In stark contrast, walking beside her, Ye was entirely covered, wearing black trousers, a grey hoodie, and tan boots. Maintaining his usual stoic expression, he covered his eyes with shades. The appearance marks Ye and Bianca's first public outing since rap star 50 Cent made a dig at the Gold Digger hitmaker's wife. Last week, Ye unexpectedly arrived at court as Sean 'Diddy' Combs' trial continues. He faces serious federal charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, which he has denied and pleaded not guilty to. Ye's appearance is said to have been short-lived, as, according to CNN, since he was not listed as an official attendee, he was directed to an overflow courtroom. After watching the proceedings via closed-circuit video for less than an hour, he exited the building and was seen driving off. Afterwards, 50 – real name Curtis James Jackson III – made it known how he felt, with Ye's arrival being widely interpreted as a display of support for Combs. Taking to Instagram, the Candy Shop hitmaker posted an AI-generated image of himself wearing a white ensemble similar to Ye's court look. In a savage caption, he dragged both Ye and his wife, making a reference to her nearly naked Grammys frock from earlier in the year. 'We are wearing white in honor of the freak offs,' he wrote. 'Damn Ye, you should have brought your dirty little wife with that Grammys outfit! @50centaction.' The 'freak offs' comment was seemingly a jibe at the unsettling sexual assault allegations surrounding Combs, who allegedly held days-long sex parties, which also involved ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura. While famously loose-lipped on social media, Ye did not retort. He has, however, not made a secret of his friendship with Combs, having ignited rumours that the two had worked on a song together, on which he wanted daughter North West, 11, to feature, much to the fury of her mother, his ex-wife Kim Kardashian. In March, the exes' latest row went public when Ye released a track titled Lonely Roads Still Go To Sunshine, which he said was a collaboration between Diddy, North, King Combs, and Jasmine Williams. Ye posted text messages online between himself and Kim, in which the Stronger rapper accused his former partner and her family of limiting his access to the children. More Trending It's been said that Kim, who was married to Ye from 2014 to 2022 and shared four kids with him, has displayed solidarity with Bianca during the time she has been with her ex. While reports recently claimed that Bianca was hoping to end their marriage due to living in an 'aggressive situation', the couple seemed to patch things up. However, Skims founder Kim reportedly wants Bianca to know she is there for her, with a source telling Page Six that she has shown 'support' for Bianca and has let her know she's there to 'talk if she needs'. An insider claimed to the outlet that Kim 'feels like she's the only other person on this planet who truly knows what Bianca has been through'. Got a story? Work underway to rehouse residents as blaze-hit Perth tenement declared unsafe

PKC is asking local landlords or Air BnB owners with available accommodation to assist with the rehousing effort. Dozens of Perth residents will have to be rehoused following the fire which ripped through a city tenement claiming a man's life. The Scott Street building has been declared unsafe and those living near the site will have to be found alternative accommodation while demolition work takes place. ‌ More than 40 residents had to be evacuated from their homes as a result of Saturday's blaze and a respite centre was set up in the nearby Salutation Hotel. ‌ It is expected there will now be months of disruption in Perth city centre while the demolition work is carried out. Road closures remain in place on South Street and Scott Street while enquiries and work on the building is ongoing. A joint Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) investigation is taking place into the cause of the fire. First Minister John Swinney, who visited the site on Tuesday, said: 'I would like to express my sympathy to all those who remain affected by this tragic incident, especially the family of the gentleman who sadly lost his life. I also recognise that this is an incredibly difficult time for so many people. 'Incidents of this severity remind us of the sheer bravery and professionalism of our firefighters and other emergency services workers in putting themselves in danger to assist others. Their actions without doubt saved many lives. ‌ 'My government will work closely with Perth and Kinross Council to make sure that support is made available to all of those who have been affected by this terrible event.' PKC deputy leader Eric Drysdale said this week: 'Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the person who tragically lost their life in this terrible incident, and with all the other people affected. 'Since the fire, Scottish Fire and Rescue, Police Scotland and Council staff have been on site to ensure the safety of the wider public. ‌ 'On Saturday, June 14 a structural engineering contractor was brought in to assess the damage caused to the building at 41 Scott Street. 'Their report outlined devastating damage to the whole building. The structure has been made unsafe and no part of it is salvageable. As things stand, the building is a serious risk to health and safety. 'Unfortunately, this means that the whole building will require complete demolition. This will be an extremely complex process, and specialist demolition contractor Reigart have been appointed to carry out the task. ‌ 'The building will require careful demolition from the top, down to ground level and this will take some time to complete. It is estimated that the work could take around 24 weeks, but it is possible that it could be concluded earlier if there are no complications. 'To allow the work to be carried out safely, pedestrian and traffic access to sections of Scott Street and South Street around the site will remain closed. We appreciate that this will cause continued significant disruption in Perth City Centre, but unfortunately this is unavoidable given the situation we face.' An eight-year-old girl and a 27-year-old man had been taken to hospital for treatment following the fire which claimed the life of a man. ‌ Two firefighters also sustained injuries and received medical attention. The British Red Cross is among those providing practical help and emotional support in the wake of the fire. Trained volunteers are providing clothing and toiletries to those unable to access their belongings or homes as well as support at hotels housing evacuated residents. ‌ Police Scotland divisional commander for Tayside chief superintendent Nicola Russell said: 'Our thoughts remain with all those impacted by this fire. 'Our enquiries remain ongoing to establish the cause of the fire and we would like to thank the local community for their co-operation and support and officers remain in the area. 'Road closures and cordons remain in place to ensure safety and allow enquiries to be carried out. ‌ 'We are reviewing CCTV and speaking to residents and I would appeal for anyone with any information which could assist to contact us.' Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 0380 of 14 June, 2025. PKC is asking local landlords or Air BnB owners with available accommodation to get in touch with them to assist with the rehousing effort. They can contact the housing team at: privatesectoraccess@ ‌ PKC said it is hoped some of these people will be able to move back into their homes after 16 weeks, when demolition work has progressed and the building will be of a safe height. People who live in the block directly adjacent to number 41 (number 33) will have to be rehoused for the entire duration of the work. Some other households who live further away from the fire site but who still live inside the cordon have been asked to leave their homes for the short-term. ‌ They are aiming to allow these people back into their homes soon. The council spokesperson added that PKC will support businesses who will be affected by the road closures, adding: 'We have been speaking to them today to see what arrangements can be put in place to help. 'This support will continue and develop throughout the duration of the closure. Anyone who needs to speak to our Business Support Team can email businessdevelopment@ ‌ The spokesman continued: 'It is hoped that the outer cordon can be reduced in the near future to allow some businesses to reopen and some people to return to their homes. 'A new road traffic configuration for Perth city centre is being designed to allow the free flow of traffic as far as we can, and to provide delivery access to premises. We will provide an update with these arrangements. 'Buses will be re-routed, and some temporary stops will be put into the city centre. Signage will be in place so that people know where they can get their bus.' ‌ Councillor Drysdale added: 'The people of Perth and local businesses have responded to this sad event with huge compassion and generosity. It has been heartening to see our local community pull together to help people at their time of greatest need. 'We would appreciate everyone's ongoing co-operation and understanding as we deal with this difficult situation. 'We understand that the disruption to the city centre will bring frustrations, but we are committed to completing the work as soon as we can and most importantly, to continue support for the people and businesses who have been directly affected by the fire. 'I would once again like to pay tribute to our emergency services for their continued excellent response to this incident, as well as to the wide range of council and Health and Social Care Partnership staff who rose to a significant challenge over the weekend to provide all the support and help that they could. 'I also want to pass on my sincere gratitude to the staff at Salutation Hotel, who have been superb in working with us to make sure that people affected had the care they needed in the aftermath of the fire.'
