Sky Blues ace seals English Championship move
A-League Men star Adrian Segecic is off to Europe after snaring a move to English Championship side Portsmouth.
Sydney FC were keen to retain the services of the highly-rated forward, but the lure of a three-year contract proved too strong.
The 21-year-old will reunite with former Sky Blues teammate Hayden Matthews at the English club, as well as fellow ALM talents Jacob Farrell (Central Coast Mariners) and Thomas Waddingham (Brisbane Roar).
"Adrian is a really exciting young player – one of the hottest prospects coming out of Australia at the moment," Portsmouth boss John Mousinho told the club website.
"We've already had some success with bringing people over from that part of the world and we hope that Adrian can now make a real impact at Pompey."

Segecic leaves as the reigning Golden Boot winner, scoring 13 goals in 24 matches this season.
His move gifts Sydney FC a substantial six-figure fee in compensation for the Young Socceroos midfielder.
Segecic said the move came at the right time after nine years at the club.
"I'm honestly devastated to be leaving Sydney FC – this club has been my home for almost a decade," Segecic said in a club statement.
"But I know I have to test myself and find out how far I can take my career.
"I'm so excited for what's ahead of me in England, but I'll always be grateful to Sydney FC for the incredible opportunities they've given me."
Segecic lit up the ALM after a loan spell at Dutch club FC Dordrecht last season.
He has scored 24 goals in 65 Sky Blues appearances across all competitions.
Sydney coach Ufuk Talay could only praise Segecic, keeping his fingers crossed on a potential return in the future.
"His hunger to improve and his desire to perform every week really stood out - he absolutely deserves this opportunity," Talay said.
"While we would have loved to keep him ... he's determined to test himself in one of the toughest leagues in world football, and we're proud that our pathway has enabled him to do that.
"He's a homegrown boy done good, and we'd love to see him back in Sky Blue one day."

A disappointed British and Irish Lions team will set off for Australia on Saturday after suffering a 28-24 loss against Argentina in Dublin (Paul Faith) The British & Irish Lions captain Maro Itoje brushed off Friday's defeat against Argentina in Dublin, saying his side will "live, learn and get better". The Lions, who leave for a three-Test tour of Australia on Saturday, were outplayed in the first half and, after a second half resurgence, went down 28-24. Advertisement Bundee Aki and Tadhg Beirne both went over the Pumas line and the Lions were also awarded a penalty try but the visitors replied with three tries of their own including one for fly-half Tomas Albornoz who finished with 18 points. It was the first opening tour match loss since 1971 but there was much to build on as the team sets off on Saturday for Australia. Seventeen players were not considered by coach Andy Farrell because of their presence in domestic competitions last weekend or, in the case of Toulouse's Blair Kinghorn, this weekend. "We weren't as consistent as we would have liked to be," Itoje told Sky Sports. Advertisement "We only showed glimmers of what we can do. When we were on it, we looked good, we just need to do it more consistently. "We want to be more aggressive but we are building. It wasn't quite that, we will live, learn and get better." The Lions, who come together every four years as a team drawn from the best players in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland, chose to play Argentina, ranked fifth in the world rather than a scratch team like the Barbarians to give themselves a stern test ahead of Australia. "Argentina showed us where we are lacking," said Itoje. "I am happy we had a hard-fought game. We live and learn. This is only match one." "You can't win a Test with that error rate," he said. "We lost enough balls in that game for a full tour, throwing balls that weren't on. "There was good and bad throughout. We will keep building for the Test matches." - Under pressure - The Lions, however, were under pressure from the start as the Pumas went on the attack from the kick-off, Albornoz stroking over a penalty in the fifth minute. The Pumas hit back straight away as Ignacio Mendy stepped in off his wing, wrong-footed Duhan van der Merwe and slid through for the try. The Lions had a second try, this time from Sione Tuipulotu, ruled out before his centre partner Bundee Aki barged through for their opener. Albornoz knocked over two more penalties to make it 14-10 as the clock ticked towards the red. The Lions had time to restart and had a chance to regain the lead before the half-time whistle as the Pumas coughed up possession. Advertisement The Pumas, though, quickly retrieved it, attacking down the right and opening the door for Albornoz to skitter through under the posts for their second try of the half. He added the conversion to take a 21-10 lead at the break. The Lions began the second half strongly and picked up a penalty try when Puma prop Mayco Vivas came in from the side of a maul to prevent it going over the line, collecting a yellow card in the process. Shortly after, the Lions were in front, a bullocking run by prop Ellis Genge producing chaos in the Argentine defence and allowing Irish lock Tadhg Beirne to crash over. Potential record deal puts Elliott's name back in the headlines as Albion are linked

The champions' move for Florian Wirtz will set them back an initial £100 million. That will become a British record £116 million if various clauses are met. Advertisement It also appears to affect Elliott's potential to play significant minutes for the Reds. Albion were believed to be interested in Elliott during the January transfer window and probably before that. That might at least partly explain why The Sun report him to be of interest to the Seagulls in the current window. He would command a sizeable fee and comes with some uncertainty over what he can produce in the Premier League on a consistent basis. But Elliott, who is currently with England under-21s at the Euros, has shown plenty of promise. He scored for Liverpool at the Amex towards the end of the season. Advertisement There is no suggestion that Albion have bid for Elliott but there is a theory the presence of his former Anfield mentor James Milner could help persuade the 22-year-old to move. Albion have an array of options in attacking midfield areas but plenty of outward activity is expected during the summer transfer window.

Summer switch - former Colchester United youngster Harvey Sayer has signed for Tamworth from Lowestoft Town (Image: Richard Blaxall) FORMER Colchester United defender Harvey Sayer has signed for National League side Tamworth. The young wide player has joined the Lambs from Pitching In Isthmian League division north side Lowestoft Town, who will receive compensation as a result of the deal. Advertisement Sayer joined Colchester's academy at under-14 level and made his professional debut for the club in 2020, at the age of 17. He came on as a second-half substitute for Miles Welch-Hayes in the U's EFL Trophy group game against West Ham United under-21s. Sayer signed his first professional contract with Colchester in January 2021 and made his EFL debut the following month, coming on as a late substitute for Aramide Oteh in the U's defeat to Exeter City. But Sayer was released at the end of the 2022-23 season, after six and a half years with the club. However, Sayer is now looking forward to a fresh challenge at Tamworth, who finished tenth in the National League in the 2024/25 season.
