UPSC NDA, CDS 2025:
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has extended the last date to apply for the National Defence Academy & Naval Academy (NDA & NA) Examination (II), 2025 and the Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination (II), 2025.
Applicants now have until 11.59 PM on June 20, 2025, to complete and submit their applications online at the official website — https://upsc.gov.in/.
Originally, the deadline for submission was set for June 17, 2025. The extension offers an opportunity for eligible and interested candidates who were unable to apply earlier to participate in this year's recruitment process for various posts under NDA, NA, and CDS.
Details of NDA and NA (II) 2025 examination
The NDA and NA (II) 2025 examination will recruit candidates for a total of 406 posts. The distribution of vacancies is as follows:
• Army – 208 posts (including 10 for women)
• Navy – 42 posts (including 5 for women)
• Air Force (Flying branch) – 92 posts (including 2 for women)
• Air Force Ground Duty (Technical) – 18 posts (including 2 for women)
• Air Force Ground Duty (Non-Technical) – 10 posts (including 2 for women)
• Naval Academy (10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme) – 36 posts (including 4 for women)
Only unmarried male and female candidates born between January 1, 2007, and January 1, 2010, are eligible.

The selection will be made through a written examination followed by the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview, which includes intelligence and personality tests.
General category candidates must pay an application fee of Rs 100. However, SC, ST, women, and wards of JCOs/NCOs/ORs are exempted from paying the fee.
CDS (II) 2025 exam vacancy and eligibility details
The CDS (II) 2025 examination will fill 453 posts in the following institutions:
• Indian Military Academy (Dehradun) – 100 posts
• Indian Naval Academy (Ezhimala) – 26 posts
• Air Force Academy (Hyderabad) – 32 posts
• Officers Training Academy (Chennai, SSC Men) – 276 posts
• Officers Training Academy (Chennai, SSC Women) – 19 posts
Educational qualifications vary depending on the post.
A graduation degree is required for the Indian Military Academy and Officers Training Academy. Engineering graduates can apply for the Indian Naval Academy, while the Air Force Academy requires candidates to have studied Physics and Mathematics at the 10+2 level or hold a Bachelor of Engineering degree.
Age limits range from 20 to 24 years for most positions. Candidates must be unmarried and meet specific birth date criteria, which vary for each academy.
The application fee for general candidates is Rs 200, whereas SC, ST, and women candidates are exempted.

VMC to deploy 200 contract swimmers for monsoon rescue operations
Vadodara: For the first time in its history, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) will engage 200 swimmers on contract for monsoon rescue operations, following a proposal cleared by the standing committee on Friday. The initiative comes in the wake of last year's unprecedented floods and aims to strengthen the city's emergency response system. The swimmers will be deployed for three months starting in July and will function as rescue volunteers under the fire department. According to officials, the swimmers will be hired through a contractor rather than directly by the civic body. A Mehsana-based agency has been selected for the task, and VMC will pay Rs 95.58 lakh for providing the trained personnel. "This is the first time swimmers are being brought in through such a contractual arrangement," said Sheetal Mistry, chairman of the standing committee. "The administration had earlier considered hiring them directly, but we eventually agreed to engage them through an agency." The civic body has already undertaken significant work on the Vishwamitri river, stormwater drains, ponds, reservoirs, and recharge wells, but officials said they were not willing to take any risks during the upcoming monsoon. VMC typically employs skilled workers, including some fire department drivers, through agencies on a daily-wage basis. The same system will be used to engage the swimmers.

Failure to comply will result in punitive action. Also, a rigorous campaign will be launched to inspect fitness certificates of commercial vehicles, unfit ones will face strict action. The directive came during a meeting of district-level monitoring and implementation committee chaired by collector Asheesh Singh. The collector emphasised the need for a joint action plan and its effective implementation by all departments to improve air quality. As decided, strict action will be taken against industrial units causing pollution. Coal-operated industrial units have been directed to shift to PNG within a stipulated time, else strict action will be taken. Unfit vehicles and those without proper PUC certificates will be targeted. Singh stressed that fitness certificates must not be issued without thorough inspection of vehicles. He also directed that PUC certificates should be portal-based, ensuring transparency and accuracy. Action will be taken against PUC operators issuing offline certificates without proper checks. The collector said that strict action would be taken against open burning of biomass and garbage. Besides, hotspot areas with high dust levels will be identified for mechanical sweeping and regular water sprinkling. "Continuous monitoring will be maintained to prevent stubble burning in fields around urban and rural areas. Challans will be issued for violations. It was reported that effective action already took place against stubble burning, with 25 FIRs registered and fines exceeding Rs 18 lakh imposed on 837 individuals," he said.
