Mitsubishi Motors North America has recalled in the US around 198,940 vehicles because of a software problem where the rearview camera froze or blacked out, which clearly would enhance the risk of crashes. It impacts the 2022–2025 Outlander and Outlander PHEV. The recall, filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on June 2, 2025, builds on a related 2023 recall. Drivers can be faced with a loss of rear visibility, particularly when reversing shortly after initialisation.
Mitsubishi will notify owners with a free software update to resolve the glitch, with owner notifications scheduled to start by the end of June 2025 based on the reports.

2023 to 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles)
These well-known midsize SUVs are frequently driven by commuters and families, so the problem might impact a lot of drivers on the road every day.
Why Mitsubishi Motors recalled SUVs
The recall centers around faulty programming in the car's software, particularly in the rearview camera system. Mitsubishi found that:
The rearview image can freeze when the vehicle is shifted into reverse.
In others, the screen might not display at all, leaving it blank.
This fault can happen especially when the car is put into reverse within 40 seconds of it being started or left in reverse gear for longer than 6 seconds.
The outcome is an impaired rearward field of vision, which is essential for seeing pedestrians, obstacles, or other cars when reversing. The NHTSA requires all vehicles produced after May 2018 to have working rear visibility technology. This software defect breaches those safety standards, subjecting the drivers and pedestrians to a higher risk of accidents and crashes.
Mitsubishi Motors recall: From complaints to nationwide recall timeline
The origins of this recall are traced back to May 2023, when Mitsubishi initially announced Recall No. 23V345 for the same issue. Then, close to 90,000 vehicles were recalled. Customers' and dealers' complaints explained:
The rearview screen goes dark upon reversing.
A stuck or unresponsive audio system.
The system rebooted in the middle of a drive, causing distractions or loss of sight assistance.
In January 2024, reports surfaced detailing total screen freeze-ups. By March 2024, Mitsubishi received more complaints about camera blackout occurring while the car was in motion and presented additional safety hazards.
During a two-year period, Mitsubishi received:
6 formal field reports referencing software performance issues.
358 warranty claims on account of this flaw.
Following further research and in-house testing, the company decided on May 23, 2025, that a full-blown recall was required to avoid further accidents.
Mitsubishi Motors: Fixing the issue
To correct the malfunction, Mitsubishi will reflash the camera system software in all of the impacted vehicles. This will make the rearview camera turn on correctly and reliably when the car is put in reverse.
Cars already repaired under the 2023 recall will also need the new update since this is an upgraded and revised repair.
New cars made on or after April 22, 2025, already have the corrected software and are not included in this recall.
The software update will be done free of charge to the car owner by certified Mitsubishi dealerships.
This software reflash is a non-surgical repair that doesn't involve replacement parts but does involve a technician flashing the new software onto the vehicle's system.
When will recall notices be released
Mitsubishi has established a definitive schedule to inform the parties involved:
Dealers will be notified on June 16, 2025.
Vehicle owners will be notified by mail beginning June 30, 2025.
These notices will include instructions on where and how to schedule the repair. For owners who paid out-of-pocket for previous related issues, the letter will also explain how to apply for reimbursement through Mitsubishi's Customer Relations Department.
What Mitsubishi Motors recall means for drivers
This recall underscores the increasing complexity and importance of automotive software in modern vehicles. Even a seemingly minor code error can significantly impact safety. Mitsubishi's prompt response in expanding the recall after more cases emerged shows the critical role of customer feedback and ongoing dealer reports in vehicle safety oversight. They are urged to take action immediately upon getting a notice of recall since rearview visibility is crucial for safe driving, especially in driveways, parking lots, and busy city environments.

Modi flags off 100 new electric buses for city

1 2 3 Bhubaneswar: In a move towards a modern, eco-friendly mobility network, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday flagged off 100 new electric buses under the Capital Region Urban Transport (Crut). The PM inaugurated the new buses during his visit to the city to mark one-year anniversary of the BJP govt in Odisha. The new additions increased the number of e-buses under Crut in the capital city to about 150. The capital city is steadily improving infrastructure supporting EVs with the introduction of a new public charging station at Vani Vihar Square recently. Besides, the Crut has also been developing exclusive bus depots equipped with EV infrastructure. With the new additions on Friday, Crut is likely to increase the number of routes covering more distant parts of the city as well as Cuttack and Puri. Besides the e-buses, Crut operates about 400 buses which run on conventional fuel. "There is a growing demand for public buses in the city. Looking at the need and demand, we have strengthened our fleet. The new and upcoming addition to the fleet will predominantly be e-buses only," a Crut spokesperson said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo He said the additions took the total number of buses under Crut to about 510. "There are 58 routes where Ama buses are plying now. We will be adding a few new routes with the new buses," added the spokesperson. The Ama Bus (earlier called Mo Bus) services have gained immense popularity in quick time. From daily ridership of a few thousand in the initial days, it has gone up to 2.16 lakh in Bhubaneswar alone. Looking at the demand, the state govt increased the fleet with new EV buses as well as routes covering more parts of the city. It also introduced Ama Bus service in Rourkela in 2023. It later expanded the service to cities like Berhampur and Sampalpur.

US closes probe into 2 million Nissan vehicles without seeking recall

A US auto safety agency on Wednesday closed a seven-year-old investigation into 2.03 million Nissan Motor vehicles over issues related to rear suspension control arm failure without seeking a recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation, which covered 2013-2018 Nissan Altima and 2016-2018 Nissan Maxima vehicles, was opened in 2018 and upgraded to an engineering analysis in 2019. The probe reviewed whether the lower control arm of the rear suspension system could separate from the chassis due to corrosion posing safety risks. Nissan implemented a design change in January 2018 to improve the durability of the lower control arm. Nissan did not immediately comment on Wednesday. NHTSA said it reviewed about 1,300 reports of the issue and a small number of complaints suggested they had been in near crashes. Just one complaint said a vehicle made physical contact with another object, bumping into the trailer hitch of a truck. "Nissan acknowledges that a crack can develop in affected control arms due to stress loading from normal use and that salts commonly used for roadway snow and ice treatment may result in corrosion that exacerbates the progression of the crack," the agency said. Most reports occurred in salt-belt US states prone to corrosion issues with vehicles averaging over 113,000 miles (181,856 km) at the time of failure. No injuries have been reported. More than 47,000 vehicles were repaired with a new part under a Nissan customer satisfaction campaign announced in 2019 and some vehicles received a warranty extension to 10 years. "With a declining trend of reports and Nissan's actions to implement a countermeasure and extended warranty coverage, further investigation of the issue does not appear to be warranted at this time," NHTSA said.

Honda recalls more than 259,000 cars across the US due to brake pedal issue

Honda is recalling more than 259,000 of its cars across the U.S. due to a problem that can cause the brake pedal to shift out of position, potentially interfering with a driver's ability to stop or slow down. According to documents published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall covers certain Honda Pilots between model years 2023 and 2025 - as well cars under the auto maker's luxury Acura brand: 2021-2025 Acura TLX and 2023-2025 Acura MDX vehicles. The NHTSA's recall report notes that the brake pedal pivot pin in some of these vehicles was not secured properly during production. That can lead the pedal to shift out of place and "may lead to unintended application," the report notes, increasing crash risks. "The issue could also cause an abnormal brake pedal feeling during operation, illuminate the brake malfunction light in the instrument cluster, or cause the vehicle's brake lights to remain lit even when the brake pedal is not applied," America Honda said in a statement Wednesday. As a remedy, Honda says authorized dealers will inspect the vehicles covered by this recall and replace the brake pedal assembly if necessary, free of charge. Per the NHTSA's report, the company estimates 1% of these vehicles have this issue. Dealer notifications began on June 13. And mailed owner notification letters are set to follow on July 28. In the meantime, drivers can also confirm if their specific vehicle is included in this recall and find more information using the NHTSA site or Honda's recall lookup. Between February 2024 and June 5, the NHSTA notes, Honda received three warranty claims related to this issue - but no reports of injuries. Honda began investigating the faulty brake pedal in April 2024, after receiving a report of a vehicle experiencing this issue. The company later determined that improper assembly of the brake pedal pivot pin occurred at a supplier's U.S. plant, which has since been closed. Production was transferred to a plant in Mexico - where the supplier now uses a camera sensor "to verify whether the pivot pin is staked," the recall report notes.
