Alyssa Chia elated to team with Hiroshi Abe for Japanese high-tech heist film

23 Jun - Alyssa Chia recently expressed elation to be a part of the Japanese movie, "Candlestick".
The actress, who plays the role of a senior executive of a Taiwanese company in the movie, revealed during the premiere in Tokyo that the main reason she took the challenge was because no one has ever asked her to play this kind of villainous role before.
"Another very important reason was that I was able to work with Japanese film king, Hiroshi Abe and that the film is about a highly complex AI financial fraud, which is very challenging," she said.
On the other hand, Hiroshi, who also attended the premiere, said that the film has a lot of English dialogues in it, and that he is amazed by Alyssa's ability to digest the script so quickly and interpret it very well.
"It's amazing. I look forward to working with her again," he confessed.
Based on the novel "Soshikiri: FX Simulation Success Story" by Tetsuhiko Kawamura, "Candlestick" follows Nohara, a former genius white hat hacker who plots to deceive the impregnable AI that is the "guardian of the financial market" and make a fortune in the FX market after losing everything.
It co-stars Nanao, Kenjiro Tsuda and Austin Lin among others.

John Oliver Commissions Real Artist to Carve AI Slop Image as ‘Petty' Revenge

John Oliver is no big fan of AI creations — at least, not in a way that goes beyond amused horror — so, on Sunday night's episode of 'Last Week Tonight,' he took his 'petty' revenge on the machines. The HBO host centered his main story on the use of AI programs, conceding that mastering them has proven financially lucrative for a handful of creators and just about all of the businesses that incentivize them. But he also pointed out the many flaws of AI, including the fact that, more often than not, it is simply stealing the work of real creators. 'And look, I'm not saying some of this stuff isn't fun to watch. What I am saying is some of it's potentially very dangerous, and even when it isn't, the technology that makes it possible only works because it trains on the work of actual artists,' he explained. 'So any enjoyment you may get from weird, funny AI slop tends to be undercut when you know that someone's hard work was stolen in order to create it.' The host zeroed in on one creator in particular, a wood carver named Michael Jones. Jones uses a chainsaw to create massive, life-like carvings of various creatures, and an image of his work turned into a trend of AI-generated images of people posing next to more carvings, claiming they made them themselves. So, as the show ended, Oliver gave Jones a chance to not only show off his abilities, but also do the same thing to AI that AI did to him. 'I don't have a big fix for all of this, or indeed, any of it. What I do have, though is a petty way to respond,' Oliver said. 'Because perhaps one small way to get back at all the AI slop ripping off artists would be to create real art by ripping off AI slop. So please come with me.' At that, he stood from his desk and took the camera over to a real-life wood carving of an AI-generated image — in this case, a weirdly buff man made out of cabbage, the AI version of which simply tickled Oliver — and Jones standing next to it. 'Look at the details there! This thing is an absolute masterpiece!' Oliver crowed. 'And seeing this, does it make you want to thank the real artists who made it? Well, I've got some great news for you. You can do that because we flew him here too. Michael is here!' 'What a fun way to celebrate the destruction of our shared objective reality!' Oliver added as the show wrapped up. 'We are f–ked!' You can watch the full segment from 'Last Week Tonight' in the video above. The Best New Netflix Movie Has Set A Rotten Tomatoes Score Record

Kpop Demon Hunters Netflix original movies are extremely hit or miss as the service continues its apparent attempt to make movie theaters obsolete, but now? There's a new movie it's just released that has set an overall Rotten Tomatoes record. The movie is KPop Demon Hunters, which appears to have the highest combined critic and audience score for a Netflix original production, a record for the service. Whatever good Netflix original movie you might hit this mark, it will likely fall short. Here are some of Netflix's most high-profile films, and you'll see that they're either way off or they miss by a few points. KPop Demon Hunters It's possible these numbers don't hold for KPop Demon Hunters, but for now, here we are. It seems like a random movie to do this well, I suppose, but there are a whole lot of KPop fans out there, a whole lot of animation fans out there, and I suppose a whole lot of demon hunter fans. Here's the synopsis of the film: The film is directed by Chris Appelhans and Maggie Kang, both industry figures who have largely worked in art departments rather than directing projects. The film stars the likes of Arden Cho, May Hong and Ji-young Yoo. Cho may be the most well-known with lengthy roles in shows like Chicago Med and Teen Wolf. KPop Demon Hunters debuted at #1 in Netflix's top 10 list, but it has been unseated rather quickly by The Intern, the 2015 Robert De Niro, Anne Hathaway movie that stands the test of time and has a wide-ranging appeal to the broader Netflix audience. We'll see how the scores hold up long term, but for now, KPop Demon Hunters is on top against Oscar-winners and action blockbusters. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram. Pick up my sci-fi novels the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy.
