Man poses as MCD official, extorts Rs 1.75 lakh from Defence Colony resident, held: Delhi police
Police Saturday arrested a man for allegedly posing as a Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) official and extorting Rs 1.75 lakh from a 76-year-old woman residing in Defence Colony.
The accused, Tausif Raja, was arrested under BNS sections 308(2) (extortion) and 319(2) (cheating by personation).
On May 20, police said the elderly complainant approached the Defence Colony police reporting an incident where a man visited their house on May 9, saying he was an official from MCD's Horticulture Department. He accused the family of not maintaining clean drains and threatened a challan of Rs 50,000 along with disconnection of their electricity meter. He then demanded a bribe of Rs 25,000 to settle the matter.
When the woman initially refused, police said the accused escalated his threats, warning he would sabotage her son's marriage. Out of fear, she handed over Rs 25,000 in cash. A few days later, on May 13, police said the man returned, repeating his threats. This time, he demanded Rs 50 lakh.
Police said the woman's husband, worried for their son's future, complied and delivered Rs 1.5 lakh in cash at a location near the Modi Mill flyover. The man continued harassing the family and demanded the remaining amount, prompting them to file a police complaint.
Police examined footage from more than 100 CCTVs and analysed call detail records, which revealed the accused had changed his mobile number. 'The team tracked and identified the accused person who took the extorted money from the complainant. The photo of the man was developed and circulated among police groups… Local sources were deployed and human intelligence was collected. A list of criminals released from jail on bail was scrutinised,' said DCP (South) Ankit Chauhan.
'A raid was conducted at Okhla and the man was arrested. He admitted to the crime,' the DCP said.

Upon this, an FIR was lodged at Kankar Khera police station under relevant sections of IPC and Pocso Act in June 2023." Additional district govt counsel Manoj Gupta said, "The incident occurred on Sept 9, 2017, when the boy was in his school where the convict was appointed as judo coach. Mohd Qasim took the boy to the forest on the pretext of judo training, where he forcefully sodomised him. The boy narrated his ordeal to his family about the incident upon returning home. Subsequently, an FIR against the convict was registered at Katghar police station under the sections of sodomy and the Pocso Act. " He added, "The submitted medical examination report to the court confirmed the assault. Additionally, the statement of the survivor and the circumstantial evidence helped in nailing the accused." The chargesheet was submitted in court, and the judge expedited the trial. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court found Ali guilty and ordered his immediate custody. Maharashtra horror: Sangli teacher kills daughter who failed college exam; held after wife files complaint
KOLHAPUR: A 48-year-old high school physical education teacher, Dhondiram Bhosale, in Nelkaranji village of Sangli district's Atpadi tehsil, was arrested Sunday on charges of murdering his 17-year-old daughter. As per the police complaint lodged by Bhosale's wife, he beat up their daughter for failing a college exam. The case was registered under sections 103(1) of BNS and 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, at Atpadi police station. Bhosale allegedly assaulted his daughter on Friday night with a wooden stick. She was admitted to a hospital, where she died. The girl's mother filed the complaint, leading to the case registration on Sunday. The accused appeared before Atpadi's court, which granted police remand until June 23. Inspector Vinay Bahir said, "We registered the case on Sunday. The daughter was beaten badly. The postmortem was carried out, which indicated grave assault." Senior officers from Sangli police visited the crime scene. According to local residents, Bhosale has an elder son and a younger daughter. Police said they would probe based on the mother's complaint and explore any other factors contributing to the crime.

Sonam Raghuvanshi Hid Weapon, Jewellery At Indore Property; Two Arrested For Aiding Her
Last Updated: Two more suspects, a property dealer and a security guard, were arrested for helping Sonam Raghuvanshi conceal evidence in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case. Two more people, a property dealer and a security guard, were arrested on Saturday in connection with the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case. According to the details, the property dealer was arrested for concealing a jewellery box belonging to Sonam Raghuvanshi, Raja's wife and the prime accused in the case. The box was hidden in a flat in Indore after the murder last month, it was known. Commenting on the arrests, East Khasi Hills district SP Vivek Syiem said, 'The Meghalaya Police Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested one Silome James from Bhonrasa toll-gate in Dewas district of Madhya Pradesh while he was trying to flee to Bhopal around 7.30 pm on Saturday." 'He is a property dealer and lessee of a building at Heera Bagh Colony in Indore, where Sonam had stayed and kept the jewellery and other items she took with her after the incident," he said. Later, the SIT nabbed a security guard, identified as Balla Ahirwar, from his native village in Ashok Nagar district of Madhya Pradesh around 2 am on Sunday. He was posted at the property. The box is believed to have contained key evidence linked to the murder, PTI quoted sources as saying. The arrested property dealer led the SIT to the place where he had disposed of all the items of the box by burning, the officer said. A member of the SIT said that Sonam's boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, owned a firearm, and this was kept at the property along with jewellery and a laptop. At the site where James had burnt the box, there were no signs of the pistol, laptop or any of the jewellery belonging to Raja, he said, adding that a forensic team had also visited the spot and collected all available evidence. The flat was rented out to murder co-accused Vishal Chauhan by James, who runs a property management firm in Indore, they said. On June 13, James told reporters that Chauhan approached him on May 30 and rented the flat for Rs 17,000 per month, signing a formal agreement. However, when the Meghalaya Police later searched the flat, it was found vacant, as per the sources. Sonam stayed in the flat for several days on return from Meghalaya, before eventually surrendering to police in UP on June 8, the sources said. James and Ahirwar were produced before a court in Indore, which remanded them in the transit custody of Meghalaya Police for seven days, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Rajesh Dandotiya said. Indore-based transport businessman Raghuvanshi married Sonam on May 11 in Indore, and the couple left for their honeymoon in Meghalaya on May 20. The couple went missing on May 23, and Raja Raghuvanshi's mutilated body was recovered on June 2 from a deep gorge near a waterfall in the Sohra area of East Khasi Hills district. Raja was hacked to death by three men using two machetes near a secluded parking lot close to the famous Weisawdong falls in Sohra, it was later revealed. Sonam, accused of conspiring with her alleged lover to kill her husband, surrendered on June 8 before the police in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur district, while four other accused have been arrested from different locations in MP and UP. The Meghalaya Police had earlier arrested five persons in connection with the murder — Sonam, her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha and the latter's three friends Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi.
