William & Kate Already ‘Preparing' George, Charlotte & Louis For ‘Future Roles' Amid Charles ‘Incurable' Cancer
There's no doubt that King Charles' illness has accelerated the timeline for succession, or at least the timeline for preparations in the UK. The King has returned to most of his duties, but his age and his illness have made the British Royal Family very aware of the reality that there will soon be another King. And preparations for that have already started, with reports indicating that Prince William and Kate Middleton's roles are already starting to resemble this reality.
Perhaps the clearest sign of this is King Charles pretty much deferring to Prince William's preferences when it comes to how they've handled the feud with Prince Harry. Reports indicate King Charles hasn't wanted to take too harsh a stance on his son, but Prince William isn't of the same line of thinking. King Charles has, so far, not taken any steps that might be hard for William to come back from when he is King.

And, of course, the preparations for a possible succession don't just include Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton. They also, necessarily, involve their three kids: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. All of this comes amid reports that King Charles' cancer is reportedly incurable, but manageable. Royal writer and associate editor of the Daily Telegraph, Camilla Tominey wrote, 'The talk now is that he may die 'with' cancer, but not 'of' cancer following a rigorous treatment program.'
This presumably ties into how William and Kate are preparing their kids going forward. It all started with the trio making their first appearance of summer 2025 at Trooping the Colour. The family then posted a picture of all of them on Instagram. On Father's Day, another picture was shared, now of the kids with their father, Prince William.
Royal expert and author Robert Jobson discussed the preparations with Hello! magazine. 'It's all about William now, and him preparing Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis for their future roles in the next decade or so,' Jobson told the outlet.
'William takes his responsibilities to the institution, to his father, to his family, very seriously. You see that in the way he looks and the way he acts. He has grown into the role of supporting his father and being a King in waiting.'
This reportedly includes the understanding that Prince George has a different burden to bear than his siblings, as the firstborn. That's reportedly why, on the 80th anniversary of VE Day, Prince George attended a tea party for veterans with his parents. His siblings were not present.
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond told the Mirror, about it. '[It] may be the only opportunity George will ever have of speaking to men and women who served their King and country during the war.'
She added, 'It's a lesson that will serve him well in the future…One day he will be Chief of the Armed Forces himself, and he may well look back at some of those conversations and be glad that he had the chance to meet some of the few remaining veterans.'
There have been many reports about Prince William's intention to scale down the monarchy. That means that, in the years to come, his three kids will likely play big roles in what the monarchy will look like in the future. And they're already being trained for it.

Places to watch Black Sabbath's final gig in Birmingham if you didn't get Villa Park tickets
If there's one thing you can rely on Birmingham's music venues for it's keeping the joy of heavy metal alive for fans in this city, all year round. And with Black Sabbath's final gig less than two weeks away at the time of writing, they're once again stepping up for those who love alternative music in Birmingham. Scruffy Murphy's, Dale End, B4 7LN Subside is known for many as being that Digbeth bar that stays open until 6am, but for fans of heavy music in the region, it's also known as an important venue that will put free gigs on for the community. Keeping that flame lit is important for the grassroots bands in the city as well as fans and so it's worth considering a visit when it comes to celebrating Sabbath on July 5. Danny Boyle Is Planning A Whole 28 Years Later Trilogy – Here's Everything He's Said So Far
The latest instalment in Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later saga is finally in cinemas, with 28 Years Later pulling us right back into the franchise's post-apocalyptic, rage-infected world nearly three decades on from the events of the first movie. Starring Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes and newcomer Alfie Williams, the Oscar-winning filmmaker is back in the director's chair (he famously did not helm the 2007 sequel 28 Weeks Later, but stayed on as a producer) to continue the story. While the first movie starred Cillian Murphy as a hospital patient who wakes up from a coma to find London deserted in the midst of a zombie outbreak (yes, we know, they're not technically 'zombies') the new film revolves around a group of survivors living on an island before one ventures over to the mainland. With numerous rave reviews landing before the film's official release on Friday, fans of the franchise will be delighted to hear that the Trainspotting director has already expressed his hopes that 28 Years Later will mark the beginning of a brand new trilogy. A second instalment in the proposed new trilogy is actually coming sooner than you think. The next film, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, was actually filmed back-to-back with the new movie, and is currently slated to come out 16 January 2026. The Marvels writer Nia DaCosta will be directing that one in place of Danny (who is staying on as a producer), with Alex Garland on screenplay duties once again. The Slumdog Millionaire director explained that 28 Years Later should still be considered a 'standalone film' during a Reddit Ask Me Anything, adding: 'We hope all of the films in the trilogy will be, but also we want all to be seen satisfyingly as a trilogy'. So far, Danny has shared some key details about the future of the franchise to get us excited in the meantime (including the return of one very special A-lister). Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the director explained that during a bidding war for the film, they were looking for a studio 'who was also prepared to invest in the second film', which had already been written by that point. The deal eventually went to Sony, and for both logistical and financial reasons, he said it would have been 'insane not to' shoot 28 Years Later and its sequel back-to-back. However, because the filmmaker was, of course, hard at work on the first, he said it would have been 'impossible' for him to simultaneously shoot the second. That's why American director Nia DaCosta, known for directing and co-writing both 2023's The Marvels and the 2021 Candyman sequel, was recruited for film number two, and according to Danny, she's 'done a great job of it' As for a third film, Danny explained to The Hollywood Reporter that he and the team are still trying to get money for that one, which he intends to direct if all goes to plan. Speaking to IGN this month, he explained that their finances for the third instalment will likely depend on 'how the first one does'. In a separate interview with the BBC he said he envisioned Alife Williams appearing in all three parts of the story, adding: 'Hopefully, if we do OK, they'll give us the go-ahead for the money and for the third one. Everybody's standing by for that, really. Including Cillian.' Fans of the original movie will be elated to hear that the Oscar-winning Oppenheimer star will, indeed, be returning in the second movie of the trilogy, The Bone Temple. 'He is in the second one,' Danny revealed to IGN. 'I shouldn't give away too much. I'll get killed.' During Danny's Reddit Ask Me Anything, he added that Cillian's 'central character of Jim will be there as a theme through them all'. Danny is also hopeful that Cillian's star power could help get the third film greenlit. 'All I can say is you have to wait for Cillian, but hopefully he will help us get the third film financed,' he told Business Insider. Sony Motion Pictures Group chairman Tom Rothman told Deadline in May last year that Cillian's character would be back in a 'surprising way and in a way that grows'. Viewers had previously speculated that Cillian's character may have become infected when they spotted someone who bore an uncanny resemblance to the Peaky Blinders star in one particularly chilling shot of the trailer – though this turned out not to be the case. 28 Years Later is in cinemas now. The sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, is expected to arrive on 16 January 2026. Warm vibes and winning bites: A perfect pub stop at Wivenhoe's Greyhound
IT was one of those days that ends the way all good days should – with a hearty meal in a buzzing pub, the kind where you feel like you've stumbled into someone's living room rather than a bar. After a day spent walking Wivenhoe's streets, chatting with locals and soaking up riverside sunshine, I ended up exactly where I was meant to: at The Greyhound. The pub sits like an old friend at the heart of town, with its cheerful chatter spilling out the door and the promise of a cold drink and good food drawing you in. The warm interiors (Image: Newsquest Reporter) Inside, the atmosphere was instantly warm – a real community feel, where dogs are welcome, and the bar staff know most customers by name. It was only early evening, but the beer garden was already filling up with a hum of conversation and laughter. The cosy insides (Image: Newsquest Reporter) After hours on my feet, I was ready to eat. I scanned their daily specials board and eventually landed on the wholetail scampi, served with seasoned fries and a dressed salad (£12.50). It was a tough choice, though. Their menu is packed with pub classics, small plates, burgers and sandwiches – a spread that makes decision-making a genuine challenge. Tempted by more, I gave in and ordered a small plate of falafel bites (£7), which came with a rich hummus and fresh salad. My meal (Image: Newsquest Reporter) Honestly? Some of the best falafel I've had in a long time – crisp outside, perfectly spiced inside, and paired with a creamy hummus that made each bite better than the last. The scampi didn't disappoint either – golden, generous, and full of flavour. The fries were perfectly seasoned, and the salad gave just the right crunch and freshness to round it all out. Another diner near me recommended the house curry – 'highly commended,' they said with a nod – so that's definitely going on my list for next time. I kept things simple with a Coke (£3.70), but the bar's selection of local beers and ales looked impressive. Portion sizes were no joke – I ended up asking for a takeaway box, and the staff kindly packed everything up with a smile. Warm, welcoming and deeply satisfying, The Greyhound is the kind of place you leave full – not just from the food, but from the experience.
