Jammu: Army chief felicitates BSF woman officer for defending Akhnoor posts
Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi visited Pargwal sector of Akhnoor and reviewed operational preparedness on Friday, officials said. He also met BSF Assistant Commandant Neha Bhandari and her team for defending forward posts in the Akhnoor sector during the Pakistan conflict.
'General Upendra Dwivedi reviewed operational preparedness in J&K's Pargwal sector and visited the Tiger Division where he commended troops for their outstanding performance in Operation Sindoor . He stressed the importance of staying agile and vigilant in response to evolving security dynamics,' said a defence spokesperson.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) also praised BSF's close operational integration with the army and lauded the bravery of Bhandari and her team for defending forward posts in the Akhnoor sector, he added.
He also praised the paramilitary force and ex-servicemen for their role during Operation Sindoor, the army said. The army chief had reached Jammu on a two-day visit on Thursday and attended the high-level security review meeting chaired by home minister Amit Shah.
Commanding a border outpost within eyeball-to-eyeball contact of a Pakistani post along the international border, the assistant commandant led her troops to silence three forward hostile posts across the zero line (the area closest to enemy territory) by giving a befitting reply.
Bhandari got a commendation disc from the army chief, the Jammu BSF stated on X.
Apart from Neha, six women constables held gun positions at a forward border post, rising with every bullet they fired at the enemy positions across the international border in the Samba, RS Pura and Akhnoor sectors.
Neha, a third-generation officer from her family in Uttarakhand, takes pride in being part of the BSF and commanding a border outpost in the Pargwal forward area of the Akhnoor sector in the Jammu district during Operation Sindoor.
'I feel proud to be manning a post along the International Border with my troops. It is approximately 150 meters away from the Pakistani post in the Akhnoor–Pargwal area,' she said. (With PTI inputs)

Espionage case: YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra's judicial custody extended by two weeks
A court in Hisar on Monday (June 24, 2025) extended the judicial custody by 14 days of social media influencer Jyoti Malhotra arrested last month on the suspicion of espionage. The Hisar Police arrested Malhotra, who ran a YouTube channel 'Travel with JO', on the suspicion of espionage on May 16. Hailing from Hisar, the Youtuber was arrested at the New Aggarsain Extension and booked under provisions of the Official Secrets Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Malhotra's lawyer Kumar Mukesh said, "Her judicial remand has been further extended by 14 days and the next date of hearing has been fixed by the court on July 7." The 33-year-old YouTuber appeared before the court through video-conferencing, he said. Earlier on June 9, another court here had rejected her regular bail plea. Police had opposed the bail and argued that the investigation in this case was still going on. After her arrest on May 16, Ms. Malhotra was remanded to five days of police custody by the court. Following the completion of the remand, the court extended the custody by four more days after the police sought to question her further. On May 26, the court remanded her to judicial custody for 14 days, which was further extended later. The Hisar Police previously said no evidence had emerged to indicate Ms. Malhotra had access to any military or defence-related information but claimed she was in contact with some people, aware that they were Pakistani intelligence operatives. Police sources had previously said she was in touch with Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish, a staffer at the Pakistani High Commission, since November 2023. India expelled Danish on May 13 for allegedly indulging in espionage. Police had last month claimed that Pakistani intelligence operatives were developing Malhotra as an "asset".

Operation Sindoor achieved all objectives and instilled fear in the minds of the terrorists, said defence minister Rajnath Singh on Monday, lauding the leadership of President Droupadi Murmu as the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces. He added the President has played a crucial role in boosting the morale of the army, air force and navy from time to time. (PTI) The minister was speaking at Rashtrapati Bhavan during the launch of Wings to Our Hopes (Volume-II), a compilation of 51 speeches delivered by President Droupadi Murmu during her second year in office (2023–24), across occasions such as national addresses and university convocations. One of the speeches featured in the collection is the address President Murmu delivered at the passing out parade of the National Defence Academy in 2023, where she aimed to inspire and motivate newly commissioned officers of the Armed Forces, said Singh. 'Viksit Bharat (developed India) is the objective, and this book is its means,' said Singh. 'If you read this book, you will feel that she is still playing the role of a teacher in national building.' Describing the collection as a reflection of the government's vision for a Viksit Bharat by 2047, Singh said the President's speeches touch on key themes like innovation, women's contributions to nation-building, equality, and cultural heritage. Citing examples like Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's 'Tryst with Destiny' and Martin Luther King's 'I Have a Dream,' the defence minister said such speeches do more than convey ideas - they chart the course of movements and outline visions for the future. He added that speeches hold the power to ignite revolutions, influence public opinion, and drive policy change. The minister also quoted renowned writer Franz Kafka, who once said, 'A book must be the axe for the frozen sea within us.' He drew a parallel between this idea and President Murmu's speeches, many of which were delivered at convocations, moments he described as the 'last rites' of a student's time in the gurukul (school) of learning. In that context, he said, the President's words should be seen as part of the Rishi tradition — passing of knowledge from teacher to student. Also present at the event were minister of railway, IT and information & broadcasting (I&B) Ashwini Vaishnaw and MoS I&B L. Murugan. The book, available in Hindi as Ashaon Ki Udaan - Khand 2, along with an e-version, was compiled by Rashtrapati Bhavan and published by the Publications Division of the I&B Ministry.
