Madurai Panthers' S Surya Anand's hat-trick led to a thrilling 10-run victory over the Nellai Royal Kings in the Tamil Nadu Premier League.
Madurai Panthers' S Surya Anand took a dramatic hat-trick for his team at the Tamil Nadu Premier League on Wednesday, to take them to a 10-run win against the Nellai Royal Kings at the SCF Cricket Ground in Salem, in what was described as one of the best pace-bowling spells in the tournament.
Put in to bat first, Madurai were reduced to 26/3 in the fourth over before Balchander Anirudh and Atheeq ur Rahman added 61 runs for the fourth wicket.
Madurai were soon reduced to 125/8 in the 18th over, before Saravanan and Gurjapneet Singh added 43 runs for the ninth wicket. Sonu's three-wicket haul ensured that Madurai were bowled out for 169.
In the chase, Nellai found themselves at 21/2 in the third over before skipper Arun Karthik and NS Harish added 35 runs for the third wicket.
After Harish was dismissed by S Rajalingam in the sixth over, Karthik and wicketkeeper Rithik Easwaran added 42 runs for the fourth wicket.
After Easwaran was dismissed by Saravanan in the 12th over, Nellai were soon reduced to 119/6 in the 14th over.
Sonu and Mohammed Adnan Khan then added 39 runs for the seventh wicket before the former was dismissed by Surya on the first ball of the 19th over. Nellai needed 11 runs to win with four wickets in hand, and Sonu and Adnan had been ticking along for four overs before the dismissal happened.
Three wickets in hand and just 11 to get off as many deliveries looked like a good opportunity for a Nellai win. Valliappan Yudheeswaran came to the crease and blocked the first delivery.

Lokeshwar stars in LKK's first win of the season
Opener Lokeshwar's best score in TNPL (90 n.o, 57b, 5x4, 5x6) and leg-spinner R. Divakar's three for 16 helped Lyca Kovai Kings (LKK) beat Nellai Royal Kings (NRK) by 67 runs in a Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) match at the Chennai Super Kings ground here on Saturday. Chasing 166, NRK folded for 98 to hand LKK its first win of the season. Earlier, LKK posted 165 for six, having been put in to bat. The new-ball swing and the wind blowing across the ground throughout the innings made run-scoring difficult. Left-hander B. Sachin (10) slog-swept left-arm spinner Sachin Rathi against the wind for S.R. Athish to pouch it at deep midwicket. Andre Siddarth (duck) hit against the wind off Rathi too, skipping down the pitch to the second ball he faced to hole out to Muhammed Adnan Khan, who ran in from long off. Only skipper Shahrukh Khan (30, 25b, 2x4, 2x6) defied the wind. He pulled off-spinner B. Rocky for a six to deep square leg and hit a six off left-arm spinner N.S. Harish over a leaping long-off fielder, both against the wind. He engaged in a 75-run fourth-wicket stand (off 46 balls) with Lokeshwar. Lokeshwar ramped Yudheeswaran for a six to fine leg in the sixth over and slog-swept a slot ball for a six to deep midwicket off the same bowler in the 20th over. He also ramped Cherian for a six to fine leg and slog-swept Rathi with the wind for a six to deep midwicket. On reaching his fifty off 39 balls, he danced down the track and hoisted Rathi for a straight six. The scores: Lyca Kovai Kings 165/6 in 20 overs (S. Lokeshwar 90 n.o, Shahrukh Khan 30, Sonu Yadav 2/16, Sachin Rathi 2/25) bt Nellai Royal Kings 98 in 17.5 overs (P. Bhuvaneswaran 2/9, M. Siddharth 2/16, R. Divakar 3/16, N. Kabilan 2/26). Toss: Royal Kings. Sunday's matches: SKM Salem Spartans vs Dindigul Dragons (3.15 p.m.); Siechem Madurai Panthers vs Idream Tiruppur Tamizhans (7.15 p.m.).

Much Ado About Nothing! Ball-Tampering Allegations Against Ashwin Withdrawn
The Madurai Panthers withdrew their ball-tampering allegations against the R Ashwin-led Dindigul Dragons in the Tamil Nadu Premier League. The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association announced on Wednesday that the Madurai Panthers have withdrawn their ball-tampering allegations against the R Ashwin-led Dindigul Dragons. The Panthers had accused the Dragons of tampering with the ball using towels 'treated with chemicals" during a Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) match on June 14 in Salem. 'After careful consideration, the management and coaching staff of SMP have decided to withdraw the complaint in the best interest of the sport and the smooth conduct of the tournament," said Prasanna Kannan, the TNPL CEO. 'They have further clarified that the complaint was not intended to bring disrepute to Mr. R. Ashwin, captain of the Dindigul Dragons, the Dindigul Dragons team, the match officials, the TNPL, or the TNCA," he added. Kannan stated that with the Panthers withdrawing their complaint, there would be no further action on the matter. 'In light of this withdrawal, the matter is deemed closed and no further action shall be pursued," he said. Kannan mentioned that an internal committee of the TNCA thoroughly reviewed the complaint filed by the Panthers earlier this week but found no specific evidence. 'In accordance with the Operational Rules of the Tamil Nadu Premier League, TNCA reviewed the matter and communicated the procedural steps required for initiating a formal inquiry." 'The SMP was accordingly requested to submit specific evidence that would enable the constitution of a commission to examine the matter and determine any further course of action," he added.
