Minister slams Centre over denial of permission for US visit

Bengaluru: Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge on Thursday criticised the Centre for denying him permission to travel to the US to interact with multinational companies to attract investments to the state.
According to sources, Kharge was slated to lead a delegation to Boston for Bio 2025 and San Francisco for Design Automation Conference. However, due to denial of permission, he was forced to cut short his ongoing trip and returned from Paris to Bengaluru on Wednesday night.
Kharge vowed to raise the matter with the Ministry of External Affairs and seek its response for denying him permission. 'It seems that somewhere Centre is trying to curtail the fame of Karnataka,' the Minister, who holds Information Technology and Biotechnology portfolio, told reporters here. He acknowledged the union government's authority to decline permission but stressed the need for a justification for the decision.
'Rejecting my official tour is improper,' Kharge added. The minister said he would take it up with the Centre. 'We will not leave it just like that. I am going to write to the MEA seeking a valid explanation on why there was a denial of our delegation and a support from the Government of India,' Kharge said.
He also requested the Chief Minister to write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Kharge also said that he was visiting the US not to discuss politics but to attract investments.
'People in the USA have no time to listen to our politics. We are going there to invite them to invest in Karnataka. The investment that comes to Karnataka will not only benefit the state but also the Centre,' the Minister insisted.

The Congress accused the BJP-led Centre and the JD(U)-BJP government in Bihar of not fulfilling their promise of purifying the Ganga and claimed that the condition of the river is such that its water is neither drinkable nor suitable for bathing. Addressing a press conference, party MP Manoj Kumar cited a report to claim that of the 13 STPs built for the Ganga and its tributaries in Bihar, only seven are working. He said the promise made to purify the Ganga water under the "Namami Gange" project has turned out to be false. "Narendra Modi and (Bihar Chief Minister) Nitish Kumar together neither took any step towards flood control nor made the Ganga water drinkable. Even the NGT imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the Bihar government," he claimed. Mr. Kumar said that due to the high amount of faecal coliform (FC) bacteria, the NGT has stated that the river's water is neither fit for drinking nor for bathing.

Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi gets a year's extension

Haryana's Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi will continue on his for one more year after the Centre granted him extension until June 30, 2026, at the request of the state government. Rastogi, a 1990 batch IAS officer, has been granted extension in 'relaxation of Rule 16(1) of All India Services (DIB) Rules, 1958 by invoking Rule 3 of AIS (CS-RM) Rules, 1960)', the orders mentioned. Rastogi was due to retire on June 30. On May 23, the Haryana Government recommended that Rastogi be given an extension for a year, which has now been approved by the Centre. As per Rule 16 of the All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefit) Rules 1958, the service of the chief secretary may be given an extension of service 'for a period not exceeding six months on the recommendations made by the State Government concerned with full justification and in the public interest, with the prior approval of the Central Government'. The Haryana Government had appointed Rastogi as the chief secretary in February this year to replace Vivek Joshi, after Joshi was appointed the Election Commissioner of India.
