The long wait for
Jon Jones
and
Tom Aspinall's
heavyweight unification bout has led to the rise of several claims, speculation, and rumors, which also involve the current heavyweight champion's retirement plans.
The interim champion, too, believes that Bones is now retired, as expressed through his posts on X, which highlight the fighter's best life.
While such speculation amuses UFC fans and the community, the latest addition to this list is the comparison drawn between Aspinall and
Michael Chandler
, who waited for a long period to get a fight booked against
Conor McGregor
. The English fighter was quick to respond to this comparison in his recent interview.
Tom Aspinall reveals his future plans within the UFC, expresses his desire to fight the top contenders of the division
Michael Chandler took a two-year break after losing to Dustin Poirier in November 2022 before finally agreeing to fight the Irish fighter Conor McGregor at UFC 303 in June 2024. The bout was a supposed comeback for the Notorious as well after his loss to Poirier at UFC 264. McGregor even suffered a leg injury during the fight. After a long hiatus of almost 3 years, fans were excited for the Irish fighter's comeback. However, much to the fans' dismay, the bout got cancelled owing to a toe injury suffered by McGregor.

Ever since, the fighter has shown no signs of stepping back into the ring.
Regardless of what went down in the lightweight division, the situation for Tom Aspinall and Jon Jones within the heavyweight division is quite different, as revealed by the interim champion in his recent interview with ESPN MMA.
'I've seen a lot of people comparing me to Michael Chandler. He waited a long time for Conor McGregor.' The fighter stated, 'I'm not waiting for one fight.
I'm not trying to fight one guy. I'm trying to fight ALL the guys.'
Aspinall has set his ambitions quite high and seems to have gotten over the no-response situation of Jon Jones, 'I'm trying to be THE guy at heavyweight who takes out everybody. It doesn't matter who it is, Ciryl Gane, Volkov rematch, Almeida, Derrick Lewis, Brock Lesnar. Whoever it is, I don't care. I wanna fight everybody, and I wanna fight as much as possible, get some excitement back in this division.'
'Let's not talk about Jon Jones anymore.' Owing to the retirement speculations of Bones, Aspinall further stated, 'I'm the active guy. I'm gonna fight somebody, and that's gonna be announced pretty soon.'

Rishabh Pant Breaks MS Dhoni's Historic Record With Fiery Ton, Sunil Gavaskar Quips: "Get An Ambulance..."
Rishabh Pant, who was unbeaten on 65 at the close of play on Day 1, smashed his 7th Test century, overtaking MS Dhoni as India's most decorated wicketkeeper-batter in terms of centuries scored in Test cricket. Pant achieved the feat on Day 2 of the ongoing first Test against England in Leeds on Saturday. Former India captain Dhoni scored his sixth and final Test century in 2014. Pant celebrated his century in a unique fashion, dishing out a summersault. Reacting to Pant's celebration, legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar made a cheeky remark on air. "After that, you need to keep a stretcher and ambulance ready, just in case," Gavaskar was heard as saying. Most Test centuries by designated WKs (India) 7* Rishabh Pant 6 MS Dhoni 3 Wriddhiman Saha On Day 1, Pant overtook Rohit Sharma to become India's leading six-hitter in World Test Championship (WTC). Ahead of the match, Pant was tied with Rohit on 56 sixes each, despite playing six less games in that period. He hit two sixes on Day 1 two surpass Rohit and increase his tally. In the overall list, Pant is only behind England captain Ben Stokes, who has smashed 83 sixes in 54 WTC fixtures. On Day 1, Pant had joined Gill after Jaiswal's wicket, and he welcomed Stokes with a four on the second ball, a soothing sight after a colossal failure that was his 2025 IPL stint with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), except for a century against champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). During the course of his half-century, Pant overtook Dhoni to become Asia's most successful wicketkeeper in SENA conditions and also brought up his 3,000 Test runs, becoming only the second after Dhoni to do so. Earlier on Day 1, a composed century from debutant captain Shubman Gill, a fluent ton by Yashasvi Jaiswal, and a measured innings from vice-captain Rishabh Pant powered India to a dominant 359/3 at stumps on Day 1 of the first Test against England at Headingley on Friday. After Jaiswal set the tone with a sparkling 101 off 159 balls, featuring sixteen boundaries and a six, Gill took over with a captain's knock, showing maturity and poise throughout his unbeaten 127-run effort. The stylish right-hander struck sixteen fours and a maximum in his 175-ball stay, steering India to their highest-ever first-day total in a Test match on English soil. Pant supported his skipper brilliantly, remaining unbeaten on 65 from 102 deliveries. His innings was laced with six fours and two towering sixes, and he looked in full control alongside Gill in their unbroken 138-run partnership.

Watch: Ollie Pope Takes Stunner As Karun Nair Scores 4-Ball Duck On Test Return
Last Updated: Karun Nair came out to bat at No. 6 for India in the first innings but failed to open his account despite facing four balls in the first session of the second day's play. Karun Nair was back in the Indian Test team after more than eight years, but in his first outing, the 33-year-old right-handed batter failed to open his account even. He came out to bat at No. 6 for the Shubman Gill-led side in the first innings on Saturday (June 21) but was sent back to the pavilion by Ben Stokes. Ollie Pope completed a flying catch with his right hand on the last ball of the 105th over of India's first innings to end Nair's stay at the crease. The clip of Pope's super effort on the field to spoil Karun's Test return was shared by fans on X, and within no time the video went viral on the internet. Fans had high expectations from Karun, who scored a double century for India A in the first unofficial Test played against England Lions last month, but he failed to do anything. Karun was the second Indian batter to get out in the morning session of the second day's play. Before him, Shubman Gill was sent back to the pavilion by Shoaib Bashir. Gill, who made 147 runs from 227 balls in his first Test as India captain, tried to play a big shot against Bashir but was caught by Josh Tongue near the boundary ropes on the fifth ball of the 102nd over. After Nair, Tongue dismissed Rishabh Pant (134). Pant was trapped in front of the wickets by the English seamer on the second ball of the 108th over, and then on the last ball before lunch, Stokes removed Shardul Thakur for 1 run from eight balls. The Mumbai-based bowling all-rounder was caught behind by wicketkeeper Jamie Smith. At the end of the first session of the second day's play, India managed to score 454 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 108.4 overs. For England, Captain Stokes has picked up four wickets so far, and one Indian batter each has been sent back to the pavilion by Brydon Carse, Tongue, and Bashir. Sunil Gavaskar can't keep calm on live TV, uses new ‘S' word in stunning reaction to Rishabh Pant's record century
Sunil Gavaskar could not keep calm after Rishabh Pant got to his record 7th Test century with a six off Shoaib Bashir on Day 2 of the first Test against England in Leeds on Saturday. The legendary Indian cricketer, who had slammed Pant for his poor shot selection in the Melbourne Test, with a "stupid, stupid, stupid," rant on ABC Radio, took a sensational U-turn by using three new words to describe Rishabh Pant's innings. Sunil Gavaskar celebrates Rishabh Pant's century "Superb, superb, superb. Absolutely terrific by the young man," went Gavaskar when Pant vroomed past former India captain MS Dhoni's record for most Test centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper-batter. Six out of seven centuries of Rishabh Pant have come in SENA countries. He has only one century at home, and if he had converted his seven 90-plus scores into three figures, he would have been breathing down Adam Gilchrist's all-time record of 17 Test centuries as a keeper-batter. Pant, a classic example of living by the sword and also dying by it, is naturally unapologetic about his approach. He thoroughly entertained the capacity crowd at Headingley towards the end of Day 1 and continued the same in the first session of Day 2, to reach his third Test century on English soil. Just to put Pant's talent into perspective, no other visiting keeper-batter has got more than one Test century in England. IND vs ENG Live Score Pant hit six sixes and 12 fours in his breathtaking knock that had the ideal mix of caution and aggression. But as is the case with Pant, it doesn't always go in his favour, especially when he plays those high-risk shots. As he found out on the third morning of the Boxing Day Test at the MCG. Despite knowing there was a third man in place, Pant went for a lap sweep off Scott Boland and ended up top-edging it straight to third man. This was when he had done all the hard work to get through the first hour of the morning session. Sunil Gavaskar to Rishabh Pant: From 'Stupid, Stupid, Stupid' to 'Superb, Superb, Superb' "Stupid, stupid, stupid," was Gavaskar's immediate reaction on ABC Radio. "You've got two fielders there, and you still go for that, you've missed the previous shot. And look where you've been caught. You've been caught at deep third man. That is throwing away your wicket. Not in the situation that India was. You have to understand the situation as well; you cannot say that's your natural game. I'm sorry, that is not your natural game. That is a stupid shot. That is letting your team down badly!" The former India captain, however, had no qualms in doffing his hat to Pant. 'It seems like that's how he plays. When he comes in to bat, on the second or third ball, he often uses his feet and hits a boundary. It makes him feel free and then allows him to play the way he wants. Over here, he's been measured in his approach—giving himself time out in the middle. But once he's in and the bowlers start to tire, that's when he begins to step down the pitch and really attack, hitting big shots, sixes, and boundaries.' 'Because he gives himself that time early on, it becomes easier for him to play those aggressive strokes later. When he defends, he seems to have so much time against the pace bowlers—it almost looks like he's taking the mickey out of them, saying, "Look, I've got all the time in the world; I don't need to play a big shot, I'm just middling the ball. He's got enormous talent. I've seen him score hundreds in South Africa and Australia, and they've been absolutely unbelievable. There's such a great blend of defence and attack—starting with solid defence and then shifting to attack,' he further added.
