Five arrested in UK for disrupting film starring Israeli actor Gadot
LONDON: London police on Wednesday arrested five people for trying to disrupt the filming of a movie starring Israeli actress Gal Gadot, a statement said.
Gadot, star of 'Wonder Woman' and in 'Fast and Furious' is in London to film a new thriller 'The Runner'. She has been criticised by pro-Palestinian groups for expressing her support of Israel since the Gaza war erupted in 2023.
Police said officers were deployed to a 'filming location' in Westminster 'to identify suspects wanted in connection with offences at previous film set protests and to deal with any new offences.'
The arrests were for blocking an access to a place of work. Police said in a statement posted on social media that two of the arrests were for previous protests and three for action carried out Wednesday.
'While we absolutely acknowledge the importance of peaceful protest, we have a duty to intervene where it crosses the line into serious disruption or criminality,' said Superintendent Neil Holyoak in the statement.
'I hope today's operation shows we will not tolerate the harassment of or unlawful interference with those trying to go about their legitimate professional work in London,' the officer added.
Pro-Palestinian protesters also disrupted a Hollywood ceremony in March when Gadot's star on the Walk of Fame was unveiled.

Foreign minister meets counterparts from Syria, Azerbaijan, Yemen
KUALA LUMPUR: Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan held bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Syria, Azerbaijan and Yemen on the sidelines of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting in Istanbul, Türkiye on Sunday. Mohamad also held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov. "Alhamdulillah, this meeting served as an important platform to strengthen Malaysia–Azerbaijan relations and to discuss regional and international developments of mutual interest," he said. He also had a bilateral discussion with Yemen's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr Shaya Mohsin Zindani. "This meeting opened the door to enhancing Malaysia–Republic of Yemen bilateral ties and to discuss regional issues of shared concern," he said. Meanwhile, Mohamad held a brief meeting with Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal Farhan Al-Saud, where they exchanged views on Malaysia–Saudi Arabia bilateral matters and regional issues of mutual concern. "The close relations between both countries continue to be strengthened through strategic cooperation and strong mutual understanding at various levels, including on the OIC platform," according to the Facebook post. 12 Malaysians still in Iran, Wisma Putra monitoring closely
SEPANG: At least 12 Malaysians are still in Iran and are being closely monitored by Malaysian authorities following the successful evacuation of its citizens and their dependents over the weekend. Malaysian Ambassador to Iran Khairi Omar, who led the evacuation mission, said the remaining individuals include students and Malaysians married to Iranian nationals, currently residing in various parts of the country including Tehran and Shiraz. "We are keeping track of their whereabouts and ensuring they are safe. "Should the situation permit and they choose to leave, we will assist them," he said during a press conference at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) late Sunday night. Khairi had accompanied 24 evacuees, comprising 17 Malaysians, six Iranian dependents, and a Singaporean, who arrived safely in Kuala Lumpur after a gruelling 1,000km overland journey from Tehran to the Turkmenistan border. He said the group spent the night at the border before flying out of Ashgabat, Turkmenistan and transiting in Thailand en route to Malaysia. "We were on the road for over 24 hours. It was a long and challenging journey, but Alhamdulillah, everything went smoothly," he said. Khairi said they decided to use an eastern land route was made to avoid areas of conflict in the west, following heightened tensions due to Israeli strikes on Iranian targets. Iran executes man convicted of being spy for Israel: Judiciary
TEHRAN: Iran executed a man on Sunday who was convicted of being an agent for Israel's Mossad spy service, the judiciary said, as the two foes traded fire for a 10th day. "Majid Mosayebi... was hanged this morning after going through the full process of criminal procedure and after his sentence was confirmed by the Supreme Court," the judiciary's Mizan Online website said. Mosayebi was accused of seeking to provide "sensitive information... to Mossad." Iran has carried out multiple arrests of people suspected of spying for Israel since the start of its bombing campaign against the Islamic republic on June 13. Later Sunday, judiciary spokesman Asghar Jahangir said three people had been arrested in the western province of Kermanshah on allegations of espionage. The arrests were made thanks to "the rapid presence of the population and their assistance to the intelligence services, law enforcement agencies and judicial officers", he said. "One of them is said to be a national of a European country," he added, quoted by Mizan. Jahangir also announced that "special judicial branches would be formed" in provincial prosecutors' offices and courts to handle Israeli-linked espionage cases on an "extraordinary" basis.
