UK weather: Amber heat health alert issued across England - with 'rise in deaths likely'
An amber heat health alert has been issued across England, as temperatures are expected to reach above 30C today.
According to the Met Office's latest forecasts, much of the south of England will see temperatures between 31C (87.8F) and 32C by Thursday afternoon, with temperatures above 20C across almost all of the UK.
It would make for the hottest day of the year so far, beating the 29.4C (85F) recorded last Friday in Suffolk and coming after record-breaking spring heat.

By this weekend, temperatures are forecast to hit highs of 33C (91F). The UK Health Security Agency's (UKHSA) latest heat health warnings for England include all regions, and are in effect from midday on Thursday to 9am on Monday.
The amber alert indicates that "significant impacts are likely" across health and social care services, and warns there could be "a rise in deaths" among people with pre-existing health conditions and those aged over 65.

A heatwave is officially declared when temperatures exceed a certain level for three days in a row. Thresholds vary from 25C to 28C (77F to 82F) across the UK.
According to the Met Office, it will get progressively warmer as the week progresses - with the heat peaking on Sunday.
Deputy chief meteorologist Dan Holley said thundery showers may be possible heading into Saturday morning, with "tropical nights" a possibility as parts of the UK approach heatwave territory.

Extreme Heat Warning in effect from Sunday through Wednesday for the Pittsburgh area
After a few scattered showers and storms Friday evening, conditions begin dry with mostly cloudy skies across Western Pennsylvania and Northern West Virginia. A thunderstorm complex moving around the periphery of our developing heat ridge will likely bypass us to the northeast today, with a low chance of a shower or storm northeast of Pittsburgh up to the I-80 corridor. The rest of our area should see mostly cloudy skies this morning with decreasing clouds and temperatures heating up by late afternoon with highs in the upper 80s. High temperatures and rain chances on Saturday in Western Pennsylvania KDKA Weather Center Our first bout of excessive heat of the summer builds in starting Sunday as a strong ridge of high pressure aloft in the atmosphere, a.k.a. a "heat dome," shifts from the Central US to the Eastern US. Sunday will likely feature our first 90-degree day of the year, with plenty of opportunities into next week as well. Most models agree that the core of the heat dome will peak in intensity and park directly over the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic states Monday and Tuesday next week. DuBois and Morgantown, West Virginia, which are other sites in our coverage area that keep long-term climate records, may also break record highs during the Monday to Wednesday stretch. While we may stay just shy of record highs, record warm low temperatures are very likely to be met in Pittsburgh, along with Morgantown and DuBois. Air temperatures will struggle to drop below 70°F at night, which makes this heat very dangerous for those who don't have air conditioning. Extreme heat is the leading killer of all weather-related hazards, so individuals should take precautions in this upcoming stretch. We'll be approaching near-record warm low temperatures this week KDKA Weather Center As far as rain chances go for this week, we may see a stray shower or storm pop up in the heat of the day on Tuesday because of how hot temperatures will be near the ground. Dangerous, potentially record breaking, heat building in
Welcome to the weekend! Heat is building in and will be reaching potentially dangerous and record-breaking levels starting on Sunday. The WJZ First Alert Weather Team has issued a string of Alert Days for the extreme heat starting Sunday into the middle of the upcoming week. Saturday, however, will still be hot but not as much as we'll see starting Sunday. High temperatures will reach the low to mid-90s. Feels like temperatures peak in the mid to upper 90s this afternoon. The second day of AFRAM will be the first of a string of Alert Days. High temperatures peak closer to 100° for the first time this year. This will be very similar to what we felt during AFRAM last year. When you factor in the humidity, it'll feel like the low to mid-100s. Monday and Tuesday look to be slightly hotter (and most likely the worst days of the stretch). Wednesday will be a couple of degrees 'cooler' - back into the upper 90s but the high humidity will push the feels like temperature/heat index over 100° again. The heat wave will continue into the late week as highs continue to surpass 90° Thursday and Friday. Storm chances return later this week and that could provide some slight relief.
