Education Ministry relaxes transfer rules for teachers with two years of service
KUCHING: The Education Ministry (MOE) is now allowing transfer applications from teachers who have served for at least two years.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the applications can also be made without any additional conditions
"This decision was made after taking into account various views as well as the Madani government's commitment to the well-being of teachers,' she said in her speech at the 54th National Teachers' Day celebration here Friday (May 16).
Also present was Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Previously, teachers were not allowed to apply for transfers within the first three years of service.
Fadhlina said the ministry has appointed 1,470 teacher assistants for 2025, with selected schools -based on set criteria, to receive two assistants each.
"MOE will also send selected teachers and officers for short-term overseas courses to gain knowledge and experience in specialised fields. This initiative involves an allocation of RM4mil,' she added.
At the event, Fadhlina announced that 32 teachers will be sent to international schools in the United Kingdom at no cost under the Global Immersion For Future-Ready Teachers (GIFT) programme.
In addition, she said teachers will be entitled to a 20 per cent discount on flight tickets through the MH GOM portal, with further details to be announced later. - Bernama

Dr Romaizah also presented an overview of Brunei Darussalam's Compulsory Education Act, highlighting how it has been strengthened by reducing the mandatory school entry age to five years. This crucial change aims to provide earlier access to schooling for children. To support this, a range of initiatives have been introduced, specifically to assist vulnerable groups. These include programmes like Bantuan Keperluan Persekolahan Tahunan, by providing school essentials and school feeding programmes, all designed as part of a broader effort to address educational challenge. During the Asean Higher Education Ministers' Roundtable, with the theme 'Envisioning the Next Decade and Beyond', Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir highlighted the necessity for higher education institutions to become more inclusive, agile and responsive to real-world demands in the face of rapid technological and industrial changes. Stampin MP allocates RM230,000 to enhance facilities at SK St David

KUCHING (June 22): Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen has announced a total allocation of RM230,000 for SK St David near Kampung Bumbok, aimed at creating a more conducive learning environment for its pupils. The Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chairman said RM120,000 from his Member of Parliament (MP) fund will be used to purchase nine smart TVs for classroom use, supporting the school's teaching efforts. 'This is in line with the digitalisation agenda of the Ministry of Education (MoE) for all schools. While the Budget allocation for MoE is not sufficient to provide such facilities, I will complement it with my MP's allocation for the benefit of the students,' he said during a Gawai Dayak cum Father's Day celebration held in Kampung Bumbok last night. Chong also revealed that the remaining RM110,000, which DAP Sarawak had helped apply for last year, has been approved by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to upgrade the school's football field. Education an effective approach to address drug issue
KOTA BHARU: Education is among the most effective approaches in the fight against drug abuse in the country, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan. He said that based on observations and studies conducted, individuals with higher education are less likely to be involved in drug abuse. 'We already have the National Social Council that addresses this issue in a compressive remains the most crucial factor in preventing and eradicating drug abuse. 'If possible, we want to ensure as many children as possible receive the highest level of education so that they can secure employment. 'When a person is employed, they are more likely to be occupied with positive pursuits,' he said during the Bicara Qiadi session at the 2025 National Leadership Gathering, hosted by the Education Ministry's Islamic Education Sector at Pantai Cahaya Bulan last night. On June 18, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed concern over the rampant drug and vape abuse among youths, particularly young Malays, stressing that the matter needs a comprehensive solution involving various approaches, including counselling and religious outreach (dakwah). On Thursday, a Federal Court panel, in a 3-1 majority decision, ruled that the fatwa issued by the Selangor Fatwa Committee in 2014, which the Selangor government subsequently gazetted, is valid but applies only to individuals, not to companies. The court ruled that a fatwa cannot be enforced against an organisation such as SIS Forum, as it does not possess the capacity to profess or embrace any religion, which effectively allowed part of the appeal filed by SIS Forum and its co-founder, Zainah Mahfoozah Anwar, to nullify the 2014 fatwa which declared the group as deviant from Islamic teachings.
