Mandi (HP), A student of a government college was found hanging in his hostel room in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district with police recovering a suicide note in which he blamed a female collegemate for him taking the extreme step, officials said on Sunday.The incident came to light on Saturday when other students, of Jawahar Lal Nehru Engineer College , Sundernagar, knocked on the door of Arpit Sharma, a fourth semester Computer Science student, and they broke it down upon receiving no response. Rushing into the room they found Sharma's body hanging with a belt.Police recovered a suicide note from his room which revealed that the extreme step was taken on account of an ongoing affair, following which a second semester female student of the college was arrested for abetting suicide.She was booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 108 (abetment of suicide) based on the complaint of Sharma's mother who alleged that her son killed self after being blackmailed by the accused.The body has been handed over to the family members following a postmortem, police said.The accused was produced before the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Sundernagar. She has been remanded to two days police custody, they added. PTI

Hyderabad Murder case In a tragic incident, a 22-year-old newlywed woman named Sapna was found dead at her in-laws' house in Uttar Pradesh's Kotwa village, under the Maniyar police station area. The police said her body was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan, suggesting that it may have been staged to look like suicide. According to Maniyar SHO Ratnesh Dubey, the police reached the house as soon as they got the information. Sapna's body was taken into custody and sent for post-mortem at the district hospital to find out the exact cause of death. Sapna had married Narendra Chauhan on March 2, 2025. The police filed a case based on a complaint made by Sapna's maternal grandfather, Babbu Chauhan. In the complaint, he said that Sapna's in-laws had been harassing her for more dowry, even after receiving a significant amount at the time of the wedding. He claimed that Sapna's family had already given Rs 90,000 through bank transfer, Rs 3 lakh in cash, a gold chain, and a ring as dowry. But still, the harassment didn't stop. Her in-laws allegedly began demanding a Bullet motorcycle and another Rs 3 lakh. When Sapna's family couldn't meet these demands, the situation got worse. Her grandfather believes she was murdered, and her death was made to look like suicide by hanging her with a dupatta from a fan hook. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Dowry Prohibition Act. The case names her husband Narendra Chauhan, his sister Champa Devi, and two sisters-in-law Puja Devi and Reena Devi. The three women were arrested and have been sent to judicial custody after completing all legal procedures. The police are still trying to find and arrest Sapna's husband, who is currently missing. A disruptive incident aboard an Air India Express flight at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) led to the detention of a 36-year-old passenger, Vyas Hiral Mohanbhai earlier this week, moments before the scheduled departure of flight IX2749 to Surat. The altercation, stemming from a disagreement over cabin baggage, escalated into a serious safety concern, prompting swift action by authorities. The disturbance began when Mohanbhai, a doctor from Shivanahalli near Yelahanka, placed her bag in the overhead bin of the aircraft's first row but took her assigned seat in row 20F. When instructed by the cabin crew to relocate her bag to a bin closer to her seat, she refused, insisting that the crew handle the task. Her defiance persisted despite repeated requests from both the crew and the pilot, leading to a heated exchange. Gagged, threatened with sickle, Faridabad elderly couple robbed of valuables

In a case of daylight robbery, two armed men allegedly broke into the house of an elderly couple at Sector 15-A in Faridabad city, tied them up, and made off with ₹1.85 lakh cash, gold and diamond jewellery, and a car on Thursday. According to the police, the crime occurred in the afternoon when Raghunandan Gandhi, 80, and his wife Vijaya Gandhi, 75, were alone at the residence of their elder son Ashish, a London-based doctor. 'The robbers rang the doorbell asking for water and when Raghunandan went inside to fetch it, the duo jumped over the gate, entered the house, and overpowered the couple. They tied the couple's hands, legs, and mouth, and threatened them with a sickle, demanding money and jewellery,' said a police officer. When the couple said that they did not keep cash in the house and all the jewellery was in a bank locker, the robbers searched the premises and took approximately ₹1.85 lakh in cash, two gold bangles, a diamond pendant, four pairs of diamond studs, and a guild ring, stated the First Information Report based on the complaint filed by the couple's younger son Amit Gandhi, 34, of DLF Sector 10. Before fleeing, the robbers allegedly stole the family's Santro car, the police said. Amit told the police that he received a call from a neighbour around 2.27 pm informing him about the robbery and that his parents were in trouble. The police at the Central Police Station have registered a case under Sections 309(6), 333, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The Crime Branch has been roped in to assist in the investigation, a police spokesperson said. Amit said his parents have been injured and are still in trauma. 'They are having trouble speaking up,' he added.
