July 23 decision on LD Vocational College murder case

By: Bernama Text Size: TAWAU: The High Court today postponed to July 23 its decision on the case involving 13 male students of Lahad Datu Vocational College, who are jointly charged with the murder of their college mate Mohamad Nazmie Aizzat Mohd Narul Azwan, last year. The verdict, initially scheduled for today, was postponed to allow for clarification related to the submissions, according to deputy public prosecutor, Nur Nisla Abdul Latif.
Advertisement She said that both prosecution and defence had filed their written submissions. The prosecution had filed a total of 366 pages of written submission. 'The defence team, comprising eight lawyers, has also filed their submissions,' she told reporters at the High Court, here, today. On May 14, High Court Judge Datuk Duncan Sikodol had set today to decide on the Mohamad Nazmie Aizzat murder case. However, a notice issued by the High Court yesterday (June 10) informed parties of the rescheduling. On Feb 28, Duncan ordered the 13 teenagers, aged 16 to 19, to enter their defence on the charge of murdering Mohamad Nazmie Aizzat, 17, in the dormitory rooms 7 Resak and 5 Belian at the Lahad Datu Vocational College, between 9pm on March 21 and 7.38am on March 22, 2024. They were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, read together with Section 34 of the same Code which carries the death penalty, or up to 40 years' imprisonment and not more than 12 strokes of the cane, if convicted. The defence proceedings began on March 10, with 18 witnesses, including all 13 accused, called to testify. The prosecution had earlier opened its case on Nov 19 last year, calling 25 witnesses, including students and teachers from the vocational college. Apart from Nur Nisla, the prosecution team also includes DPPs Ng Juhn Tao and Batrisyia Mohd Khusri. Eight of the students were represented by lawyers Datuk Ram Singh, Kamarudin Mohmad Chinki and Chen Wen Jye, while five others were represented by lawyers Mohamed Zairi Zainal Abidin, Abdul Ghani Zelika, Vivian Thien, Jhesseny P. Cops probe video showing alleged bullying of schoolgirl

A video lasting about two minutes went viral on social media, showing a student surrounded by a group of female students who hit and slapped her. (Envato Elements pic) PETALING JAYA : Police have launched an investigation into a bullying incident involving female students that allegedly took place in the restroom of a secondary school in Klang, after a video of the incident went viral on Facebook. Klang Utara police chief S Vijaya Rao said a report on the incident was made just before 1pm today. 'The cause of the incident is still under investigation,' he said in a statement. A video lasting about two minutes went viral on social media, showing a student surrounded by a group of female students who hit and slapped her. The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, which carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction. Vijaya urged those with information to contact investigating officer Izroy Kamarulzaman at 014-818 3519 to assist with the investigation.

Man slashed in drunken brawl in Nilai

KUALA LUMPUR: A man was seriously injured after he was believed to have been slashed and beaten during a drunken brawl involving a group of men in Bandar Baru Nilai early this morning. Nilai district police chief Superintendent Abdul Malik Hasim said they received a report about the incident at 6.08am. "The complaint was lodged by a medical officer from Sultan Idris Shah Hospital in Serdang, Selangor, who had treated a local man in his 30s who arrived with blood on his face and body. "The victim was immediately admitted to the Red Zone of the Emergency Department for urgent treatment," he said in a statement. Investigations by the district police headquarters' Criminal Investigation Department found that the victim had been involved in an altercation in front of a fast-food outlet in Bandar Baru Nilai. "The victim is believed to have been attacked with a parang and a wooden stick by several unidentified individuals. "He is currently in stable condition, with injuries to his head and legs," he said. Preliminary investigations found that the fight did not involve elements of gangsterism, personal vendettas or previous conflicts. "It is believed to have been triggered by a spontaneous altercation while all parties involved were intoxicated. "This led to a misunderstanding, provocation and a physical fight," he said. He said the case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with weapons, Section 427 for mischief and causing damage, and Section 326 for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a weapon.
