Kaizer Chiefs face Wydad raid as key member attracts offer

Kaizer Chiefs could lose a key member of their technical team after Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club tabled a lucrative offer for strength and conditioning coach Majdi Safi.
Safi, who joined Chiefs at the start of last season, came in as part of Nasreddine Nabi's trusted technical team with a clear mission. 'To wake up the sleeping giant.'
His influence was quickly felt as Amakhosi ended a 10-year trophy drought by lifting the Nedbank Cup, signalling the start of a possible new era at Naturena.
Wydad have now set their sights on the Tunisian performance coach, hoping to lure him away with a big-money offer. Safi has just one year remaining on his current contract with Chiefs, and the North African giants are looking to take advantage before it runs out.
Insiders at Naturena have confirmed that Safi was notably absent when Chiefs reported for pre-season training, a move that has raised eyebrows and fuelled speculation over his future.
'It remains to be seen if he will take the offer or if he will let his contract run down at Chiefs and continue the process of working hard at the club,' a source said.
Chiefs now find themselves in a familiar position. Just last season, Fernando da Cruz left the club in similar fashion. Accepting a role with the Moroccan Football Association mere weeks after his arrival, leaving Amakhosi hanging.
Should Safi opt to join Wydad, it would represent another disruption to a technical team that only recently began showing signs of progress. His role in Chiefs' resurgence has not gone unnoticed. And losing him could dent the club's plans to build on their Nedbank Cup momentum.
Will Kaizer Chiefs lose Safi to Wydad Athletic Club?

'He shots or takes defender on': Chiefs legend praise Pirates star

Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo has hailed Orlando Pirates winger Mohau Nkota following his impressive breakout season. The 20-year-old forward scored seven goals and added five assists in 39 matches across all competitions last season. His form has earned him a Bafana Bafana call-up earlier this month where he featured against Mozambique. Khumalo had praised Nkota's decision making especially when he is attacking with the ball. The Chiefs legend felt the Pirates winger was positive whenever he had to ball and would either shot or take on a defender. 'Listen. This boy, and every ball that he gets, it's whether he takes a shot or he takes a defender on,' Khumalo said, as per KickOff . 'He (Nkota) has never taken the ball backwards; he has never played anything backwards,' he added. 'He is always positive. His game is not negative. In every touch that he had, he was creating a final pass, taking on a player, or taking a shot.' The former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana midfielder has also been impressed with another Orlando Pirates youngster. Khumalo has been a big fan of Relebohile Mofokeng since he made his debut for the Buccaneers two years ago. Nkota and Mofokeng have been a joy to watch for Pirates on the wings under Jose Riveiro. With Nkota already established, it remains to be seen how he will improve as a player next season.
