Six wanted for drug trafficking, Sandakan police seek public help
KOTA KINABALU: Police are on the hunt for six individuals suspected of drug trafficking in Sandakan and Tawau, with investigations underway under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 — an offence punishable by death or life imprisonment with whipping.
The suspects, some of whom are foreign nationals, were last known to reside in Sandakan, Menumbok, and Pulau Sebatik, and are believed to be linked to active trafficking networks.
Sandakan OCPD Asst Comm Ahsmon Bajah pleaded for public cooperation to help trace the suspects, noting that community involvement has proven crucial in previous cases.
'I'm sure there are members of the public who, like us, want Sandakan to be a safer and better place,' he said at a press conference on Thursday (April 24).
'If you love Sabah, and if you love Sandakan, please come forward and share any information with us. I assure you, the identity of all informants will be kept strictly confidential.'
He also issued a stern warning against harbouring any of the suspects.
'Please, do not let anyone among us attempt to protect or shield these individuals. Doing so will only harm the community,' he said.
To make reporting easier, police have introduced a QR code system available on IPD Sandakan's official social media platforms, allowing members of the public to send tip-offs quickly and anonymously.
Information can also be submitted via the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) app, which is accessible nationwide.
Police said they remain committed to dismantling drug networks and ensuring Sandakan does not become a base for narcotics activity.

Accident claims life of 14-year-old pillion rider in Ulu Tiram
JOHOR BARU: A 14-year-old motorcycle pillion rider was killed in an accident with a lorry at Ulu Tiram here. Seri Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said two 14-year-old students, one rider and one pillion rider, were travelling on the motorcycle along Batu 16, Jalan Sungai Tiram, Ulu Tiram when the accident occurred at around 10.44am on Friday (June 20). "The lorry was proceeding straight along the road, and the motorcycle was reported to have suddenly appeared on the left side. "The motorcyclist then lost control of the vehicle and fell to the left side of the road, while the pillion rider was thrown under the lorry and was run over," he said in a statement on Saturday (June 21). The victim died on the spot after suffering from fatal head injuries, he said. ACP Mohd Sohaimi added that the motorcyclist sustained leg injuries and was rushed to Hospital Sultan Ismail for medical treatment. He said the 35-year-old lorry driver was detained to assist in investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. He also urged the public to obey traffic laws and exercise caution, especially during peak hours and nighttime driving, to prevent similar tragedies. Police nab man who drove off with special needs girl in Penaga
KEPALA BATAS: Police have arrested a man who fled in a vehicle with a 12-year-old special needs girl in Penaga on Friday (June 20). Seberang Perai Utara OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Abd Rahman said the incident occurred around 5.30pm when the girl's mother had gone to her husband's workshop to deliver engine oil, leaving her daughter in the car with the engine still running. "However, when the woman, who is in her 40s, returned to the vehicle, she discovered that both the car and her daughter were missing. She then used a location tracking app to locate her phone, which was with her daughter, and found it was in the Bagan Lalang area of Butterworth," he said in a statement on Saturday (June 21). He added that based on this information, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Seberang Perai Utara district police headquarters, together with personnel from the Butterworth police station, managed to arrest a suspect and recover both the victim and the vehicle. He said checks revealed that the suspect, who is in his 60s, has a criminal record with seven cases and 11 drug-related cases. "The victim is in good condition and did not sustain any injuries. She was taken to Kepala Batas Hospital for a medical examination," he added. Anuar said that further investigations are ongoing. The case is being investigated under Sections 379A and 363 of the Penal Code. Police hunt for masked men armed with machetes after violent incident in Changkat Jong
IPOH: Police are seeking three masked men armed with machetes, who were seen in a viral video. They were suspected of causing injuries to patrons, damaging items, stealing money and vandalising cars at an entertainment outlet in Changkat Jong near Teluk Intan. Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin said a police report was lodged by a 42-year-old local man working as a security guard at the entertainment premises on June 15. 'The complainant said that the three masked male suspects armed with machetes arrived in a car without a license plate number, and stormed into the premises. 'The suspects proceeded to damage items inside the premises and stole a phone belonging to a staff member, along with RM2,000 from the counter. 'Additionally, the suspects smashed the windows of four vehicles belonging to customer, and injuring two patrons using machetes both inside and outside the premises,' he said in a statement on Saturday (June 21). ACP Bakri stated that initial investigations have successfully identified one of the suspects as a 37-year-old local man with a criminal record. He said the forensic unit from the Perak Contingent Police Headquarters visited the crime scene and recovered several pieces of evidence, including bloodstains, two fingerprints and shards of glass. CCTV footage from the location has also been obtained. 'The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery with weapons, and Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief causing damage to public property. 'The police are actively investigating and intensifying efforts to track down all individuals involved. 'Anyone who has any information is urged to come forward to assist the investigation by contacting the Hilir Perak Police Station or the nearest police station,' said ACP Bakri.
