Extract public commitment from Modi on continuing VSP in the public sector, CPI(M) tells Naidu, Pawan

A day ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Visakhapatnam to participate in the International Day of Yoga celebrations on Saturday (June 21), the CPI(M) on Friday demanded that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan secure a clear public commitment from him that the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) would remain in the public sector. Addressing the media in Vijayawada, party State secretary V. Srinivasa Rao expressed concern over the uncertain future of the steel plant, citing widespread fears over privatisation. The lion's share of the ₹11,400 crore revival package allocated by the Union government was used to repay debts and taxes and the remaining for operational needs such as salaries, machinery, and raw materials, he said. 'The package is an illusion meant to mislead the people. Thousands of employees have already lost their jobs, and now the plant faces the threat of privatisation. The BJP, the TDP, and the JSP have all misled the people in the name of a revival package. The recent allocation of mines and port access to the Mittal Group indicates backdoor privatisation efforts,' Mr. Srinivasa Rao said. He also criticised the government's expenditure of ₹70 crore on yoga promotion programmes, calling it wasteful at a time when basic needs like food, shelter, and employment remained unaddressed. 'Millions already practice yoga individually. What people need is not mass yoga shows, but job security and livelihood support,' he said, adding that the funds should have been spent on improving children's nutrition. Mr. Srinivasa Rao also raised doubts about the authenticity of the government's claim that two crore people had registered themselves for the yoga programme. 'The registrations are largely bogus. Even my name has been listed without consent. This is all done to chase a Guinness record,' he alleged, presenting documents to support his claim. Party Central Committee member D. Rama Devi condemned the recent incident in Kuppam where a woman had reportedly been tied to a tree and beaten by a moneylender. 'This is the reality of women empowerment under this government,' she said.

Jun 20, 2025 Members of the Prison Ministry and the IPD Kuala Muda officers. KEDAH: A vital awareness talk titled Crime Prevention and the Sentences If Convicted was held recently at the Pastoral Centre of Christ the King Church, Sungai Petani. The event aimed to educate youths on the harsh realities and legal consequences of engaging in criminal activities. Organised by the Prison Ministry of Christ the King (CTK) Church, the session was attended by students from Form 1 to Form 5, along with their catechism teachers and parents. A distinguished panel of officers from IPD Kuala Muda led the talk, covering a wide range of critical topics, including: • Drug abuse and its severe penalties; • School fights and bullying, and the legal implications involved; • Commercial crimes such as online scams; • Theft of motorcycles and cars, and house break-ins; • Use of the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) app for crime reporting and prevention. The officers emphasised that many crimes occur due to negligence and urged both students and their parents/guardians to stay vigilant, responsible, and respectful of the law. This talk not only served as an eye-opener but also as a timely call to action—encouraging young people to embrace a safe, law-abiding, and faith-guided way of life. The Parish Prison Ministry (PDPM) extends its gratitude to Fr Victor Louis, parish priest, for his blessings and support, even while he was away at the Vatican during the event. She emphasised that close cooperation between communities and law enforcement is vital to maintaining safety and security at the grassroots level. 'Today's crime is not like the past. Crime does not only occur in dark alleys, but also at the fingertips. Many are robbed via phone and social media,' she said in a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report. Rubiah, who is also Kota Samarahan MP, was speaking at the 'Jom Berambeh Mencegah Jenayah' townhall session organised by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) Sarawak Contingent in collaboration with the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) and the Kota Samarahan District Office today. She revealed that over 2,000 online fraud cases were reported in Sarawak last year, resulting in losses totalling RM36 million, with pensioners, women, and students among the most common victims. On drug abuse, Rubiah noted that more than 6,000 addicts were recorded in Sarawak in 2023, particularly in suburban areas such as Kota Samarahan. 'Youths are not the cause of the problem. They are part of the solution,' she said, calling on young people to join programmes like Police Cadets, COP Friends, and community volunteer groups. She also voiced support for technology-driven crime prevention tools such as the PDRM's Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) mobile application. On a lighter note, Rubiah shared the origin story of Manchester City Football Club, which was founded in the 1880s as a means to curb youth crime in Manchester. 'If they can start with football, then why can't we in Samarahan form 'Tanjung Bundong City' or 'Belia Samarahan United',' she quipped. Also present were Sarawak Police Commissioner, Dato Mancha Ata, and officials from the government and police force. cyber crimes drugs kota samarahan Rubiah Wang youth

What are the differences between the Virginia missing persons alerts?

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)—Over the past week, Southwest Virginia has seen several missing person alerts. The Commonwealth has 6 missing person alerts it sends out, each with its own criteria for how the Virginia state police is allowed to send them out. It all begins at the local level. 'The way the process works is that a local agency, let's say, Roanoke County Police, Roanoke City Police, Franklin County Sheriff's Office, they make a request of us when they have a missing person and then we issue the alert,' Matthew Demlein, the spokesperson for the Virginia State Police, said. Out of the 6, there are 2 alerts that may be difficult to distinguish: Amber and CODI alerts. Suspect accused of abducting 5-year-old Peyton Marie Knight in custody 'An amber alert, you have to believe an abduction has taken place, and a CODI alert doesn't involve an abduction. It is a child that has gone missing under such circumstances that their health and safety is believed to be at risk,' Demlein said. There are 4 other alerts VSP can send out: Blue Alert: Issued when police are searching for a missing officer, or looking for a suspect who killed or hurt an officer. Senior Alert: For anyone over the age of 60 with some kind of impairment, like dementia or alzheimers. A missing person with autism alert. Critically missing adult alert: For anyone over the 18 whose disappearance poses a credible threat to their safety. 'There are a number of these criteria, a number of steps in the process that have to be met for us to issue an alert,' Demlein said, 'We don't want to be in a situation where, you know, everything qualifies as an alert and then people start to tune them out.' CODI Alert cancelled after Salem teen found Demlein says, even if an alert is sent out hours or even days after a disappearance, VSP has already begun its search the moment a department reaches out to them. 'This is to help the public provide us with information, be another set of eyes to help us and local law enforcement, look for missing people and get them home safely,' Demlein said.
