Lokesh Kanagaraj Cinematic Universe, aka LCU, is expanding with the Raghava Lawrence starrer Benz, and the makers have recently dropped a massive cast update regarding the same. In the latest announcement, Malayalee star Nivin Pauly will be playing the main antagonist in the upcoming venture.
The cast update shared by the makers had a promo video featuring Nivin in a menacing and chaotic avatar, unlike anything he has done before. With a blood-filled look on his face, scruffy hair, and gold teeth, he has introduced himself as Walter.
What came as a surprise is that the Premam actor would be donning dual roles in the movie, the other being a soft-spoken and seemingly illiterate man. As the former character gears up for his clash with Benz - a masked vigilante, he calls himself a man with 'dirty mind, beautiful heart…deadly combination.'
Making the cast reveal official, the production house penned, 'Meet #Walter, Our very own certified Baddie AKA Nivin Pauly.'

The upcoming Tamil-language action thriller features Raghava Lawrence in the titular character, as director Bakkiyaraj Kannan fulfills the directorial duties. Being the 4th installment in the LCU, Benz was co-written by Lokesh Kanagaraj, who is co-producing the venture under his own production house.
Apart from Raghava Lawrence and Nivin Pauly, the movie features Vaathi fame Samyuktha in the female lead role. Interestingly, AA22xA6 and Suriya45 composer Sai Abhyankkar will be debuting in cinema with this venture.
Lokesh Kanagaraj previously had three films in his cinematic universe, which include the Karthi-starrer Kaithi, Kamal Haasan's Vikram, and Leo, starring Thalapathy Vijay. Interestingly, Benz would mark the first time Lokesh stepped away from being the director in the universe he created.
Moving ahead, Nivin Pauly was last seen in the lead role for the movie Malayalee From India. The actor had recently wrapped up the shoot of his film Baby Girl and is speculated to have joined the cast of an upcoming horror comedy.
Apart from such ventures, the Bangalore Days actor has movies like Dear Students, alongside Nayanthara, as well as Dolby Dineshan and Multiverse Manmadhan in the lineup.

Kuberaa Box Office Collection Day 1: Dhanush-starrer Kuberaa hit theatres on Friday and marked one of the most anticipated releases of the year. Directed by Sekhar Kammula and co-starring Nagarjuna and Rashmika Mandanna, the film opened to largely positive reviews. Despite that, the film's box office opening has been modest compared to expectations. As per early estimates by Kuberaa collected Rs 12.98 crore on day one, falling short of Dhanush's previous theatrical release Raayan, which had an opening day collection of Rs 15.7 crore. The Telugu version of Kuberaa recorded an overall occupancy of 50.19% on Friday, with morning shows at 38.94%, afternoon shows at 54.58%, and evening shows peaking at 57.04%. Despite the slightly underwhelming opening, the film is expected to gain momentum over the weekend owing to strong word of mouth. In the Hindi belt, however, it faces competition from Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par. Produced by Suniel Narang and Puskur Rammohan Rao under Amigos Creations, Kuberaa showcases Dhanush in the role of a beggar, a performance that has earned him critical praise for its depth and transformation. On Friday, Dhanush was spotted attending the first day, first show of the film with his son Linga at Rohini Silver Screens in Chennai. The actor was visibly emotional as fans cheered loudly, scaled theatre walls, and tried to catch a glimpse of him. Videos of him acknowledging the crowd with folded hands and emotional expressions have gone viral. His security team had to intervene to manage the crowd and ensure his safe exit. Interestingly, Kuberaa was cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a UA certificate, but only after 19 scenes were trimmed. The total duration was reduced by 13 minutes and 41 seconds from the original cut. As Kuberaa heads into the weekend, all eyes are on its Saturday and Sunday performance to determine whether it can maintain its hold and close the gap with Dhanush's previous box office records. Kuberaa, directed by Sekhar Kammula and starring Dhanush, Nagarjuna, Rashmika Mandanna, Jim Sarbh, and others, has taken a reasonable start at the Indian box office, grossing Rs. 13 crore on its opening day. Despite below average advance bookings, which were skewed toward the Telugu version despite the presence of a star as big as Dhanush, ticket sales surged significantly on release day for both the Tamil and Telugu versions, driven by overwhelmingly positive word of mouth. The film has received praise for its tight and engaging screenplay, Dhanush's award-worthy performance, and strong support from Nagarjuna and Rashmika Mandanna, alongside other impressive technical aspects. Kuberaa Takes a Rs 13.25 Crore Gross India Start, Driven By Strong Word Of Mouth In terms of contributions, the Telugu version is estimated to have contributed Rs. 8 crore to the film's opening day total across India, while the Tamil version followed with a respectable Rs. 5 crore. The Hindi version, however, has underperformed, grossing only Rs. 25 lakh. This opening day figure is nearly double what the trade anticipated based on advance bookings, underscoring the power of positive word of mouth. Bookings for the weekend appear robust, positioning the film for potential blockbuster success. The Day 1 India Collections Of Sitaare Zameen Par Are As Under Kuberaa Plays Across India In Multiple Languages Kuberaa is among Dhanush's most expensive projects. Initially budgeted at Rs. 100 crore, production costs escalated to Rs. 120 crore by the time of release. With Rs. 85 crore already recouped from non-theatrical revenues, the film's financial outlook is promising, thanks to strong word of mouth. Despite Supreme Court's green light for ‘Thug Life', film fails to release in Karnataka

Despite the Supreme Court clearing the path for the release of Kamal Haasan-starrer Thug Life movie in Karnataka, the film failed to hit the theatres in the southern state on Friday. The distributors decided not to distribute the film in the state, reportedly due to the poor response and box office collections in other states. The film opened to mixed reviews earlier this month, leading to a poor theatrical run across the country. According to the makers, the film was produced with a budget of Rs 300 crore. After two weeks of its release, the movie is struggling to touch the Rs 50-crore mark in India. Meanwhile, the distributors in Karnataka are prioritising new films, such as Dhanush- and Nagarjuna-starrer Kuberaa and Aamir Khan's highly anticipated Sitaare Zameen Par. The Mani Ratnam-directed Thug Life released on June 5 across India except in Karnataka, where its release was 'stalled' following the controversy over lead actor Haasan's reported remark that 'Tamil gave birth to Kannada'. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) demanded an apology from the actor. Meanwhile, pro-Kannada groups threatened to target theatres if the film was screened, pushing the makers to petition the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Karnataka government to ensure the uninterrupted release of Thug Life in the state, dismissing a public interest litigation filed under Article 32 of the Constitution. The court transferred a related case from the Karnataka High Court and closed proceedings after the state filed an affidavit confirming no restrictions on the movie's release. The Karnataka government, in its affidavit, stated that it has imposed no ban on Thug Life and pledged full protection and security for its screening. Senior advocate Satish Parasaran, representing Raaj Kamal Films, expressed satisfaction with the state's stance and chose not to pursue the writ petition further. The bench emphasised that the state must act swiftly against any groups attempting to forcibly disrupt the film's release. 'We should be able to check our emotions. Otherwise, we will be engulfed by them. There is a difference between real life and reel life,' the court observed.
