An Indian student at the University of Calgary in Canada has died, the Consulate General of India in Vancouver said on Thursday.
The Consulate said it was "saddened by the sudden demise" of the Indian student, identified as Tanya Tyagi.
It was immediately not clear how the Indian student died and under what circumstances.
"We are saddened by the sudden demise of Ms. Tanya Tyagi, an Indian student at University of Calgary," it posted on X.
"The Consulate is in touch with the authorities and will provide all required assistance to the bereaved family. Our heartfelt condolences & prayers are with his family & friends of the deceased," it added.

Tanya Tyagi, a student from Northeast Delhi residing at 559/11D, Lane No 12, Vijay Park, had gone to Canada for studies. She died on June 17, 2025, due to a heart attack. The student's family has appealed to PM Modi for help in bringing her body back,' the post read. Tanya Tyagi's death is the latest in a string of distressing incidents involving Indian students abroad. Earlier this year, 20-year-old Indian student Sudiksha Konanki went missing while vacationing in the Dominican Republic. A permanent US resident and a student at the University of Pittsburgh, she was last seen on March 6 at a beach near the Riu Punta Cana Hotel in La Altagracia province. According to Spanish media reports, she was wearing a brown two-piece bikini, large round earrings, a metal anklet, and multiple bracelets. Despite international attention, her whereabouts remain unknown.

Air India Crash: 215 DNA Matches Found, 198 Bodies Handed Over To Families

Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad Civil Hospital Superintendent Rakesh Joshi on Thursday said that 215 DNA samples have been matched, and the mortal remains of 198 deceased in the Air India AI-171 plane crash have been handed over to their respective families. Speaking to reporters, Mr Joshi said, "215 DNA samples have been matched, of which the mortal remains of 198 deceased have been handed over to their the 198 deceased, 149 are Indian nationals, seven Portuguese, 32 British and one Canadian." He added that the mortal remains of 15 victims were dispatched by air and 183 by road via ambulances. Earlier in the day, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik said that 222 victims of the AI-171 plane crash have been identified so far, including 214 based on DNA samples and eight without DNA matching. He said their remains have been handed over to their families. "Police also do their part of the investigation, but other agencies and the experts do the technical part, like analysing the black box, and the investigation is underway... 222 people have been identified so far, 214 based on DNA samples and eight were identified without DNA and their bodies have been handed over to their families," Mr Malik told reporters. The tragedy claimed 241 lives out of 242 onboard, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

According to sources, she disappeared while walking on the beach at a hotel in Punta Cana, La Altagracia province, east of the Dominican Republic. The LCSO was working closely with our federal partners at the US Department of State, FBI, DEA, and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), as well as the University of Pittsburgh police, to support the ongoing investigation by the Dominican National Police. According to Spanish media sources, 'Last seen on March 6, 2025, at 4:50 am on the beach of the Riu Punta Cana Hotel,' says the image, which includes a portrait of the young Hindu woman.
