Thai users misrepresent old video as 'demonstration against Cambodian leader'
"Cambodian protesters demand the return of the monarchy and ousting of its current leader," reads a Thai-language TikTok post published on June 10, 2025.
The attached video -- which amassed at least two million views -- shows a large procession of people waving Cambodia's national flag.
It was shared after Thailand and Cambodia agreed to reposition their troops in a disputed border area where a Cambodian soldier had been killed in a military clash on May 28 (archived here and here).
Parts of the video's suggest that the rally could be what "forced Cambodian soldiers to pull back" from the contested area known as the Emerald Triangle, where the borders of Cambodia, Thailand and Laos meet.

Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Manet said on June 15 that Cambodia had asked the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to help find a resolution to the long-running border dispute (archived link).
Thailand has tightened border controls, while Cambodia ordered troops to stay on "full alert" and banned Thai dramas from TV and cinemas (archived link).
Similar posts claiming the circulating video showed Cambodian protesters calling for Hun Manet's ouster were shared elsewhere on Facebook, X and YouTube.
But, as of June 16, there have been no official reports of protests calling on Hun Manet to step down in Cambodia.
A reverse image search using keyframes of the falsely shared video found the same footage was posted on Facebook on August 13, 2024.

Subsequent keyword searches led to a similar Facebook video that appears to show the same procession passing through the Phnom Penh factory, which was posted on August 18, 2024 (archived link).
Khmer-language text on a banner held up by the crowd, visible in this Facebook video, reads, "Congratulations (to the) Funan Techo Canal".

The Funan Techo Canal is a controversial US$1.7 billion project that aims to provide a new link from the Mekong River to the sea (archived link).
Local media reported that the Cambodian government had announced a one-day national holiday to be held on August 5, 2024 to mark the official inauguration of the canal (archived link).
Several organisations held events to , which has drawn criticism over its funding and potential environmental impact (archived here and here).

Russia and Ukraine swap more prisoners after Istanbul talks
Russia and Ukraine exchanged more captured soldiers on Friday, June 20, the latest in a series of prisoner swaps agreed at peace talks in Istanbul earlier this month. The negotiations failed to make progress towards a ceasefire but both countries agreed to free more than 1,000 prisoners of war from each side – all wounded, ill or under 25 years old. "A group of Russian servicemen was returned from the territory controlled by the Kyiv regime. In exchange, a group of Ukrainian prisoners of war was handed over," Russia's defense ministry said in a statement. An AFP reporter saw freed Ukrainian prisoners of war being greeted by tearful relatives after stepping off a bus. Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky said most of the Ukrainians freed in the swap had been in Russian captivity "for over two years." Neither side said how many soldiers had been freed in Friday's swap. Moscow posted a video of Russian soldiers in military fatigues, chanting "Russia, Russia" with Russian flags draped over them. Zelensky shared images of Ukrainian soldiers, with shaved heads and in the blue-and-yellow national flag, weeping as they called relatives. The two sides have carried out dozens of such exchanges since Russia invaded in 2022 in one of the only areas of dialogue between Moscow and Kyiv. Two rounds of peace talks in Istanbul have failed to result in a pause to the fighting. Russia has rejected calls for an unconditional ceasefire, vowing to press on with its three-year invasion. It is demanding Kyiv cede more territory and give up on Western military support as a precondition to a truce.

Mexican authorities rescue 3,400 trafficked baby turtles
During a roadblock in the southern state of Chiapas, agents found the critters "in overcrowded conditions" in boxes in a vehicle whose driver was arrested on wildlife trafficking charges, the environmental protection prosecutor's office said in a statement. The baby animals were freshwater Meso-American sliders, native to Mexico, Central America and Colombia. They are protected in Mexico against overexploitation. "The specimens were transported without documentation proving their legal origin, which constitutes a violation of environmental regulations," the prosecutor's office said. The turtles were taken to a specialized unit for rehabilitation and to determine whether they can be released back into the wild. © 2025 AFP

Altered Trump video spreads amid Iran-Israel war
"We need to avoid getting involved in this conflict #trump #maga #israel #iran #middleeast #wwiii," says a June 15, 2025 post sharing the video on Instagram. The clip -- also shared to X, TikTok and YouTube -- claims to show Trump saying the United States should stay out of the conflict between the two arch enemies, which began when Israel targeted Iranian military bases and nuclear sites in a June 13 attack and has seen Iran respond with barrages of missiles and drones. "I think we should skip it," Trump appears to say in the video. "I don't know. I'm just not really feeling it. World War III folks, hard pass." Image Screenshot from Instagram taken June 20, 2025 Referencing nationwide protests against his agenda, Trump supposedly continued: "We've got enough going on stateside. We've got the 'No Kings' riots set to kick off this weekend. 'No Kings.' We like kings, actually, folks. We like one king in particular, quite frankly. The king of kings, our lord and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been working to draw elevated support from Trump, but the Republican US president said June 20 that Iran had a "maximum" of two weeks to avoid possible US air strikes, indicating he could take a decision before the fortnight deadline he set a day earlier. He had spent weeks before the attack pursuing a diplomatic path towards a deal to replace the nuclear deal with Iran that he tore up in his first term in 2018. The video purporting to show him saying the United States "should skip it," meanwhile, is altered. Reverse image searches reveal the footage was lifted from a May 28, 2025 event -- more than two weeks prior to Israel's strikes on Iran (archived here). Former Fox News host Jeanine Pirro, who was sworn in at the ceremony as the interim US attorney for the District of Columbia, can be seen standing behind Trump throughout. The video and transcript show the president mentioned Israel's war on the Palestinian militant group Hamas and the US efforts to reach a deal with Iran, but he did not call for the United States to stay out of a conflict between the two Middle Eastern nations (archived here and here). He was asked at one point whether he warned Netanyahu against taking any action that could disrupt his talks with Iran, but he said he was pushing to follow the diplomatic path. The president made no mention of the "No Kings" protests. The manipulated video appears to lift footage from around the 18:36 mark of the May 28 footage, based on Trump's hand movements. In that moment, the president was talking about inflation. The voice cloning detection tool in the Verification Plugin, also known as InVID-WeVerify, found that the audio on the altered version is "very likely AI-generated." Some of the earliest posts sharing the clip included disclaimers saying it was a parody generated by artificial intelligence. AFP has debunked other misinformation about the Iran-Israel war here.
