Four Malaysian players join Asean All-Stars for showdown against Manchester United
KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 — Four of Malaysia's finest footballers are in the Asean All-Stars squad to face English Premier League (EPL) giants Manchester United in a friendly at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil here on Wednesday (May 28).
ShekhinahPR, the official public relations agency for the friendly, said the quartet are Muhammad Azam Azmi Murad, Muhammad Adib Abdul Ra'op, Muhammad Haziq Nadzli and Declan Lambert.
Terengganu FC right-back Muhammad Azam, known for his pace and attacking runs, said he is honoured to represent the country in the friendly.
'Wearing the national colours in this All-Stars side is a proud moment. I aim to give my all and show what Malaysian football can achieve,' he said in a statement issued by ShekhinahPR today.
Penang FC winger Muhammad Adib, meanwhile, expressed excitement about the opportunity to play against a world-class team.
'This is more than just a match; it's a chance for all of us to demonstrate our skill and heart on the international stage,' he said.
Meanwhile, Perak FC goalkeeper Muhammad Haziq said he is ready to step up to the challenge of facing some of the world's top attacking players.
'Standing between the posts against a team like Manchester United is a challenge I've dreamt of. I'm ready to do whatever it takes to keep our side in the game,' he said.
Kuala Lumpur (KL) City FC's Lambert, who has been a Malaysian international since 2022, will anchor the defence with his experience and leadership.
'I'm honoured to lead this defence alongside my national teammates. Together, we'll show the spirit of Malaysian football,' he said.
The Asean All-Stars team will be coached by South Korean Kim Sang Sik, who recently led Vietnam to the 2024 Asean Championship title.
The friendly, which is part of Manchester United's pre-season tour, is expected to draw tens of thousands of fans and highlight the best of Southeast Asian football talent. — Bernama

'As it stands, they've been training in places like shopping malls where the public can watch them. Hannah, who also chairs the RTG committee, said efforts will also be made to help professional players find quality sparring partners to boost their performance. Last Thursday, she announced that four professional badminton players – men's world number one pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani and mixed doubles duo Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie – had committed to the RTG programme for the 2025 cycle. The RTG project, introduced by the youth and sports ministry in April 2023, is a national initiative to coordinate Malaysia's efforts to win its first Olympic gold medal, with focus on the Paris 2024 and Los Angeles 2028 Games. Meanwhile, Hannah expressed hope that the contract issue involving national women's doubles pair Pearly Tan and M Thinaah, whose deal with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) ended last December, can be resolved promptly. She told reporters this after opening the Asean Persons with Disabilities in Sports Conference 2025 here today. Sri Pahang out, 13 teams in for 2025–26 M-League season
KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 — Sri Pahang FC have confirmed that they will not participate in the Malaysia League (M-League) this season despite being granted a National License by the First Instance Body (FIB). The Malaysian Football League (MFL) announced in a statement that the 'Elephants' squad, which received the 2025/26 national license, has decided not to compete in the M-League by submitting a confirmation letter dated June 16. The decision will see 13 teams participating in the new season which will begin on August 8. 'All clubs have been granted the 2025-2026 National License by the independent First Instance Body (FIB) with the club from Brunei, DPMM FC, being granted approval from the International Football Association Board (FIFA) and the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) to compete in the 2025-2026 Malaysia League. 'However, Sri Pahang FC, which also received the 2025-2026 National License, have decided not to compete in the Malaysia League this season by submitting a confirmation letter dated 16 June 2025,' said MFL in a statement issued on its Facebook page today. According to MFL, the clubs competing in the championship this time are Johor Darul Ta'zim FC (JDT), Selangor FC, Penang FC, Kuching City FC, Sabah FC, Terengganu FC, Negeri Sembilan FC, Kelantan Darul Naim FC, Kuala Lumpur City FC, PDRM FC and DPMM FC and two clubs from AFL A1, namely Melaka FC and Imigresen FC. Commenting further, MFL announced that this season's Malaysian League calendar will begin with a clash between JDT, the Super League champion and Selangor, the Super League runners-up in the Charity Shield match on August 8, 2025, which is also the league's opening match at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Johor. Meanwhile, the FA Cup tournament will begin in mid-August, the Malaysia Cup and MFL Challenge Cup in January 2026. MFL also announced that this season's Malaysian League calendar will run for 10 months, after last season's adjustment which lasted 14 months to align the schedule with international leagues. 'MFL will release the 2025-2026 Malaysian League schedule soon as MFL is facing constraints in completing the full schedule for the season since the AFC will only hold its draw for the ACL Elite and ACL 2 competitions involving JDT and Selangor FC on August 15.
