RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM: Minister for Agriculture K Atchannaidu has said cocoa will be purchased from farmers at Rs 500 per kg in Godavari region. 'Traders and companies have been convinced to purchase cocoa produce from the farmers at `450 per kg, and the government will pay
`50. The traders and companies have been asked to purchase the entire cocoa produce from the farmers during the season,' he said.
Speaking to the media in Eluru on Friday, he said, 'The State government is planning to enact a law to fix supportive price for cocoa to better safeguard the interests of farmers.'
Reiterating the TDP-led NDA government's commitment to the welfare of farmers, he said it will take all necessary measures to ensure support price to ryots for their agricultural produce, and ensure that they don't suffer losses.
The cocoa farmers have withdrawn their agitation following an assurance that their produce will be procured at a support price of Rs 500 per kg. 'We are committed to ensure that the cocoa grown in the Godavari region is procured by the companies at the support price,' he said.
The NDA government has set up a stabilisation fund with a corpus of `140 crore, and `80 crore has already been spent to protect the farmers from the price slump.
Besides resolving the issues of cocoa farmers following the intervention of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, plans are afoot to provide training to them in modern methods of cultivation. Quality inputs will also be supplied to enable the farmers reap a good crop yield, the Agriculture Minister said.

In line with sustainability goals, Rs 3,120 crore will be spent on improving air quality in 17 municipal corporations and three NCR cities. Additionally, Rs 1,265 crore has been set aside for urban greenery and horticulture, and Rs 990 crore for electric crematoriums to encourage eco-friendly practices. The official highlighted that the plan also emphasises inclusive welfare. "We've given due focus to women, children, the elderly and even animals. Speaking on the theme 'Governing Innovation - A Telangana Case Study', KTR articulated how India's youngest state has emerged as a beacon of inclusive development, resilience, and economic transformation. In his address, KTR emphasised that Telangana was not created by chance but was the result of decades of peaceful democratic struggle. He referred to it as 'the most successful startup state of independent India' and proudly stated that Telangana has shown not only promise but also consistent delivery of development goals across sectors. He underscored that the formation of the state in 2014 was the culmination of decades of aspiration, and in just a short span, it has transformed into a model state admired across India and globally. KTR highlighted the impressive economic indicators that back Telangana's growth story. The state's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has grown from Rs 4 lakh crore to Rs 15 lakh crore, and its per capita income has surged from Rs 1.12 lakh to Rs 3.57 lakh. Telangana has risen from the 12th position in the national economic rankings to among the top in multiple sectors, including agriculture, industry, and technology. However, KTR noted that Telangana's story goes beyond numbers and it is a tale of restoring dignity, empowering citizens, and building a resilient society. Shifting of high tension towers delay Vijayawada West bypass road works
Vijayawada: The full-fledged completion of the Vijayawada West bypass road is likely to be pushed to the end of the year or early next year. The shifting of the High Tension (HT) line towers spanning approximately 520 metre on the package-III stretch from Gannavaram to Gollapudi is expected to take another three months. It will bypass the vehicular traffic going towards Chennai and Hyderabad from Visakhapatnam and vice versa, as vehicles could bypass without entering Vijayawada city, significantly reducing the traffic burden on the city. While the Bharat Mala Pariyojana road infrastructure project was divided into four packages, the works on the first two packages—package-I from Gundugolanu to Kalaparru and package-II from Kalaparru to Chinna Avutapalli, which includes the six-laning of the highway road—were completed. The completion of package-III and package-IV from Chinna Avutapalli to Gollapudi and Gollapudi to Chinna Kakani has hit multiple roadblocks, resulting in the delay of the inauguration of the Vijayawada Western Bypass. "Originally, the bypass road was to be completed by March 2025. However, govt objected to the bypass not having road cuttings to the roads within the Amaravati capital, which led to its delay for some time. Following this, the bypass road project hit the HT lines roadblock, wherein HT line towers near Nunna stretching nearly 1.2 km had to be shifted due to their positioning right within the project alignment," an NHAI official said. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Earlier, chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, during a review meeting, directed the officials to complete the bypass road works by June and to allow vehicles to ply along the bypass to ease the traffic congestion. "We missed the June deadline given by the chief minister as the problem to shift HT line towers in around a 520-metre stretch is still pending resolution. We are awaiting the shifting of the HT line towers, which is expected to take another three months, thus to fast-track the remaining works, which would be completed in a short span," the NHAI official said.
