Ryan Reynolds on lessons he learned while working on 'Green Lantern'
Actor Ryan Reynolds recently spoke about playing superheroes, recalling the lessons he learned playing the Green Lantern.
In the 2011 film Green Lantern, directed by Martin Campbell, he stars as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern, a test pilot who is selected to become the first human member of the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic police force. He said that it was a learning experience for him.
"I learned all the most amazing lessons I could ever have in the creative space from that movie," he said, adding, "On that film I saw a lot of money being spent on special effects, all sorts of stuff. And I remember suggesting, 'Why we don't we write like a scene the way people would talk? I don't know, it could be a fun exchange of dialogue that all doesn't cost anything?'"
He said he takes the "lesson" of "character over spectacle" particularly to heart.
He was sharing his experience during the 2025 Time 100 Summit. He discussed his film and TV studio, Maximum Effort, and how his journey working as an actor led to his career as an entrepreneur.
He said: "The greatest superpower I ever had in my life, I'm not saying about just my career or anything, was knowing who I am."
Maximum Effort has worked on films like Deadpool, Free Guy, IF, Shotgun Wedding, and more.
Deadpool & Wolverine, which hit theatres in July 2024, is now the top-grossing R-rated film of all time. You can see it on Disney+ in the UAE.
Reynolds also discussed the possibility of Deadpool appearing in an upcoming Avengers film, specifically whether the audience could see his famed superhero make an appearance as a supporting character.
Reynolds said, "I do", before pivoting to his experience making the Deadpool films after the character was poorly received in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The whole movie was an allegory for Disney buying Fox. "I pitched 18 different movies to them," he said.
"I was really grateful to get to tell a story, to see people like the characters that we made with Wesley Snipes, who should have a third act in this moment. ... That feeling of gasp ... it's a feeling that I just want more of. And I think I would be able to do that as a supporting actor," he added.

In Baldoni's suit, the It Ends With Us director and star alleged that Lively "stole" the 2024 film from him and his Wayfarer Studios production company and threatened to "attack" him in the press if her demands were not met. However, Judge Lewis J Liman ruled that the Wayfarer Parties "have not adequately alleged that Lively's threats were wrongful extortion rather than legally permissible hard bargaining or renegotiation of working conditions," according to documents obtained by E! News. The judge, Variety reported, tossed out Baldoni's entire lawsuit -- which also alleged extortion and other claims -- but allowed him to amend and refile a couple of allegations regarding interference with contracts. "Today's opinion is a total victory and a complete vindication for Blake Lively, along with those that Justin Baldoni and the Wayfarer Parties dragged into their retaliatory lawsuit, including Ryan Reynolds, Leslie Sloane and The New York Times," Lively's lawyers said in a statement. "As we have said from day one, this '$400 million' lawsuit was a sham, and the court saw right through it. We look forward to the next round, which is seeking attorneys' fees, treble damages and punitive damages against Baldoni, Sarowitz, Nathan, and the other Wayfarer Parties who perpetrated this abusive litigation." Lively has sued Baldoni in federal court for sexual harassment and retaliation, alleging that he and the producers of It Ends With Us launched a smear campaign against her after she complained about conditions on the set of the film. Reynolds, Lively's husband, was accused in the suit of defaming Baldoni by calling him a "sexual predator". The judge found that Reynolds was relying on Lively's version of events, which he had no reason to doubt. The high-profile case is set to go to trial on March 9, 2026.

Rapper Snoop Dogg wants to open burger van at Celtic
Legendary rapper Snoop Dogg has revealed he wants to show his love for Celtic by opening a burger van outside the home of the Scottish champions. The American music icon has previously expressed interest in buying a stake in the Glasgow club after being inspired by the success of Hollywood celebrities Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney at English second-tier side Wrexham. But the 53-year-old has now set his sights on a more modest connection with a team he has long admired. Snoop Dogg, who has published a recipe book called From Crook to Cook, once described Celtic supporters as "special" and said he identified with the club's mascot Hoopy the Hound. He told the Sunday Mail that Celtic fans would flock to the burger van and that it would become a foodie "Paradise", the nickname give to the club's Parkhead stadium. "I would love to bring a pop-up burger van to a sports stadium to show fans that food at stadiums can be good," he said. "It's got to be Celtic Park, man. The secret to a good burger is the love in the preparation. The ground beef has got to be mixed with some secret spices, then add a good quality cheese and some maple-cured bacon. "The Celtic fans are gonna love it, and to make sure they are just right, Snoop is going to be serving them himself." Snoop Dogg worked as a correspondent for NBC at the Paris Olympics last year, has launched two youth football leagues, and has been a vocal advocate for pay equality for female athletes.
