Notre Dame football recruiting update following the Blue-Gold game
While Notre Dame football played its annual Blue-Gold spring game this past weekend and still has a few more practices left, they took full advantage of the environment and it payed off on Sunday with a commitment from offensive lineman Gregory Patrick.
It wrapped up a huge recruiting week for the Irish, as they also added edge rushers Rodney Dunham and Ebenezer Ewetade in the 2026 class. The group now stands at 10 total commitments and ranks as the No. 6 collection nationally according to the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings.
While it was just Patrick joining the fold this weekend, many more prospects will join later in the cycle. Find out below a recap of what else happened this weekend in Notre Dame football recruiting.
Running back Javian Osborne
While we knew that Osborne was selecting between Notre Dame and Michigan, what we didn't know was when. On Friday it was announced that the 5-foot, 10-inch and 195-pound back will make his choice on May 3rd. Osborne was in South Bend this weekend, and it could end up being his home for a few years.
Defensive end Tiko Hola
Hola is nearing a decision as well, and was also on campus this weekend. He's a priority recruit for the Irish, as he's also considering SMU and USC. At 6-foot, 2-inches and 285-pounds, he's exactly the type of prospect that Notre Dame likes on the interior defensive line. It's a very positive development that he visited this weekend, as the remaining trips he has scheduled are all official visits, with the final one to South Bend.
Defensive end commitment Rodney Dunham
Not only did Dunham pick the Irish this week, he was on campus as well. It is great to see him buying into the program, and helping to recruit his potential classmates. The brotherhood is strong for Notre Dame, and that doesn't look like it will end anytime soon.
Wide receiver Brayden Robinson
The Texas receiver also took a trip to see Notre Dame this weekend, as they are inside his top-four teams. Robinson also recently visited Miami, so it looks like those are the teams to beat in his recruitment. He's set to make his commitment on July 20th, which comes a month after he finishes with his official visits.
Wide receiver Monshun Sales
This is a huge development, as Sales is viewed as a national prospect in the 2027 class that resides in Notre Dame's backyard. Getting him on campus early and often will be a key for the Irish to win out in his recruitment for the in-state star. It looks like it's going very well at the moment.
Defensive lineman Richie Flanigan
The younger brother of James Flanigan (signed tight end) and father Jim, Notre Dame football runs in the family's blood. It looks like another could be on the way, as the 2027 defensive tackle returned 'home' for a visit this weekend. Don't be surprised to see the Richie joining the family tradition in the future.
Wide receiver Gordon Sellars
This is a big visit for Sellars, as he had already made a commitment date prior to getting the Irish offer. It was tempting enough for him to come and visit before making a decision, and if he postpones it to a later date, you know the Notre Dame coaching staff did a great job selling the program to him. Sellars could be the difference maker at receiver that the Irish are looking for.

A big reason why people aren't sold on McCarthy is because his stats didn't light up the box score when he was at Michigan. McCarthy didn't throw for over 3,000 yards in either of his full-time starting seasons, but that's because he didn't need to. He didn't have as many yards as a lot of other top QBs, but he also didn't throw the ball as much. A perfect example to illustrate McCarthy's efficiency is that he completed over 72% of his passes during his final season with the Wolverines. When Michigan needed him to throw the ball, he did. Still, people that just look at his yardage totals aren't sold. 'A lot of [the public doubt] just comes with the stigma of playing at Michigan and not throwing the ball a lot,' McCarthy said, according to an article from ESPN. 'But at the same time, it could be my frame. They don't see a 6-5, 240-[pound] guy, so how can you throw at 61 miles an hour at the combine? But at the end of the day, it's going to show up and the people that know, know.' One thing that JJ McCarthy is definitely not lacking is confidence. He has always known that he has the ability to be successful, and he has never worried about what other people think of him. He just performs and wins. A lot of good things have been said about him so far this offseason, and it sounds like McCarthy is in a good spot. I'd rather sweat in training and limit the bleeding on the battlefield when we get there.' A new QB era is about to begin in Minnesota. The Vikings selected JJ McCarthy because they thought that he had the potential to be their next franchise QB. Because of last year's injury, the wait has been long as fans are eager to see the first-round pick in action, and McCarthy is ready to show Minnesota that it got a good one. New culture has four-star TE Lincoln Watkins ready to play for Kentucky
Kentucky moved quickly and now has a four-star tight end in its 2026 recruiting class. Port Huron (Mich.) Northern tight end Lincoln Watkins announced his commitment to the Wildcats. Watkins is the eighth known commitment of the cycle for the Wildcats as the program looks to jumpstart its recruiting efforts. This wasn't always the school that was in the picture for the Michigan playmaker. Back on June 10 he opted to reset his recruitment and open things up to new schools. At that point, his recruitment was a battle between Florida and Nebraska. Advertisement But just a few days after that Kentucky swooped in and offered him a scholarship. Watkins actually received the first phone call from new tight ends coach Derek Shay. The coach relayed to Watkins that the team had him as the number one tight end on the board and would be thrilled to have him. Then on June 17 he popped up for a mid-week official visit in Lexington. Watkins told Rivals what he was hoping to see during that visit. 'What Kentucky's plans are for me in the proceeding future and if this is a place I can truly be developed into the player I want to be,' Watkins told Rivals. And now Kentucky is going to benefit from quickly moving into action after the Michigan native shook up his recruitment. The people at Kentucky and the environment on campus pushed things over the edge for Watkins. They made him feel like a huge priority too. Coach Mark Stoops sees Watkins as the type of player that can be thrown right into the action as a freshman. Advertisement 'Honestly, to be completely honest with you, what I'm most excited about is just the people here,' Watkins said. Coach Stoops and everyone made me feel so welcome and that's the main reason I picked them.' As a junior Watkins did a little bit of everything for Northern. He hauled in 39 catches for 668 yards, ran the ball for 245 yards and had 17 total touchdowns. For good measure, he chipped in 42 total tackles on defense. Watkins is just a good football player that you want to have on your team. He'll be a tight end in college and has the chance to excel in that role. Notre Dame softball commit Ava Zachary named Miss Softball Indiana
Future Fighting Irish infielder hit over .500 en route to award A Notre Dame softball signee has been named Indiana's Miss Softball. Ava Zachary hit .543 with 60 RBI in 32 games for Penn High School in Mishawaka, Ind. She's the first player from Penn to win the state's highest award for a softball player. Mishawaka, of course, is in the South Bend area, so Zachary will be staying close to home when she heads to Notre Dame's campus. The left-handed hitting Zachary plays third base and she helped lead Penn to a 2023 state championship. She's been a four-time First-Team All-Northern Indiana Conference selection. 'It means everything,' Zachary told her school paper, The Pennant. 'It's such a surreal moment. I'm super grateful for this opportunity and the opportunity that Penn softball has given me the past four years. It was an amazing moment to stand up there with all the other amazing talent in Indiana and to hear my name be read. This is so much more than an individual award. It's an award for all the girls at Penn who have ever played Softball, and all the girls who played next to me the last four years and worked so hard and gave such a great effort every day.' 'This award just means I have to get back to work, Zachary said. "I have to work 10 times harder now and work to get better day-in and day-out.'
