Bears QB Caleb Williams explains why Packers fans 'suck'

There is no love lost between fans of the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers, and quarterback Caleb Williams is adding even more fuel to the fire. During an appearance at Fanatics Fest on Friday, Williams was asked about the fan base he dislikes, and the Packers came right to mind. While there's certainly the rivalry aspect at play here, Williams detailed one experience from when the Bears were celebrating their last-second 24-22 over the Packers in the season finale. Advertisement "After the game, after we won at Lambeau -- 1-0 at Lambeau," Williams said, via Ryan Garcia. "So obviously we tried to do the Lambeau leap -- we actually tried to jump in the crowd where our fans were. They started throwing everything at you, they push you off -- and the Lambeau leap it's a real leap, it's not a little baby jump. You actually have to high jump basically. They're pushing you, pushing your face." Williams also had another bad encounter with a Packer fan on the way to the Fanatics Fest, where he "got run down for six blocks" in his car. While Williams grew up idolizing Aaron Rodgers, he insists he wasn't a Packers fan. And now, safe to say, that animosity towards Green Bay will only grow as he leads the Bears in one of the NFL's most historic rivalries. Williams is off to a solid start against the Packers going 1-1 in his rookie season -- and he should very well be 2-0 if not for a blocked Cairo Santos field goal at Soldier Field. Instant analysis of Ravens signing CB Jaire Alexander to a 1-year, $6M deal

One day after making his wish known to the national and local media, the Baltimore Ravens listened to Lamar Jackson on Wednesday, signing former Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander. The one-year deal with Alexander is worth a maximum of $6 million, including $2 million in incentives, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The addition of Alexander gives Baltimore one of the most talented secondaries in the NFL and reunites the two-time Pro Bowler with Jackson, a close friend and former teammate at Louisville. Alexander, 28, played in just 34 of a possible 68 games since the start of the 2021 season and was scheduled to make $17.5 million this season, with none guaranteed. The Packers released the All-Pro cornerback on June 9 following two straight injury-filled seasons. Advertisement With the signing now official, here's an instant analysis of the deal. Ravens' secondary is deep If the season kicked off today, the likely starting lineup would include Marlon Humphrey at the slot cornerback spot, Alexander and Nate Wiggins on the outside, with Kyle Hamilton and Malaki Starks at the safety positions. It's a starting secondary that mixes versatility and bravado, with youth at multiple positions, and two veterans, Alexander and Humphrey. Alexander pushes several players back a step The biggest loser from the signing is Chidobe Awuzie, who goes from a potential Day 1 starter to the fourth cornerback on the roster. Jalyn Armour-Davis now becomes a cut candidate, while the two sixth-round picks could spend their rookie seasons on the practice squad. T.J. Tampa was another player to watch, and he'll fight for a spot in the rotation. This article originally appeared on Ravens Wire: Analysis of Ravens signing CB Jaire Alexander to a 1-year, $6M deal

How the Jaire Alexander signing impacts Ravens young cornerbacks

One day after Lamar Jackson made a public plea to the national and local media, the Baltimore Ravens listened, signing former Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander. The addition of Alexander gives Baltimore one of the most talented secondaries in the NFL and reunites the two-time Pro Bowler with Jackson, a close friend and former teammate at Louisville. It also adds elite depth and talent to a Ravens secondary that had been retooled this offseason with the addition of Chidobe Awuzie in free agency and two sixth-round draft picks. Advertisement Alexander, 28, played in just 34 of a possible 68 games since the start of the 2021 season and was scheduled to make $17.5 million this season, with none guaranteed. The Packers released the All-Pro cornerback on June 9 following two straight injury-filled seasons. With the signing official, we're looking at how the move impacts the Ravens' young secondary, including the cornerback position. (Photo by) Cornerback depth If Alexander can remain healthy, Baltimore will have one of the strongest defensive backfields in the league. Alexander joins a secondary that has first-round picks at cornerback (Marlon Humphrey and Nate Wiggins) and safety (Kyle Hamilton and Malaki Starks). The Ravens will likely line up Alexander and Wiggins on the outside and use Humphrey as the slot cornerback. They now have a top 4 of Marlon Humphrey, Nate Wiggins, Jaire Alexander, and Chidobe Awuzie. Rookies impact Long before Alexander was released, Baltimore made it clear that they'd be selecting a cornerback in April's draft. The Ravens selected Bilhal Kone (Western Michigan) in Round 6, pick No. 178, and Robert Longerbeam (Rutgers) in Round 6, pick No. 212. Before the Alexander signing, the No. 4 cornerback spot was up in the air between T.J. Tampa, Jalyn Armour-Davis, and now Kone, who primarily plays on the outside but has spent some time in the slot. Last season, Kone led Western Michigan with nine passes broken up. He added 70 tackles and one interception. Longerbeam has ball skills, leading the Big Ten with 30 passes broken up since 2021. He won't be as impacted, as the former Scarlet Knights star was projected to play slot cornerback because he's 5 feet 11, 174 pounds. Longerbeam is only the second player from Rutgers to get drafted by the Ravens, joining running back Ray Rice (second round in 2008). Others impacted T.J. Tampa quickly becomes a player in need of a breakout training camp, or he'll risk landing on the practice squad or being released before the final cuts. Armour-Davis has been getting snaps at safety this spring, and he'll need a breakout performance to remain on the roster.
