ChatGPT Down: Workers Stuck, Say Have ‘Forgotten' To Work Without AI. ‘Big Update On Cards?'

Users found that ChatGPT wasn't responding to their queries and instead showed an error message.
ChatGPT, the popular AI chatbot by OpenAI, went down for thousands of users across the globe on Tuesday, June 10. Many found themselves unable to access its services due to sudden outages. While the website itself was still opening, users found that the chatbot wasn't responding to their queries and instead showed an error message. The issue didn't just affect ChatGPT, it also impacted Sora, OpenAI's text-to-video platform.
OpenAI acknowledged the problem on its official status page, saying, 'Some users are experiencing elevated error rates and latency across the listed service. We are continuing to investigate this issue." But, the company has not yet explained the reason behind the sudden disruption. 'We are continuing to investigate the issue for the listed services," OpenAI added.
According to DownDetector, which tracks real-time online outages, the issues began around 2:45 PM IST. At its peak, more than a thousand complaints were recorded from different parts of the world. The majority of these complaints were related to ChatGPT service failures at 93 per cent, followed by 7 per cent for the OpenAI app and 1 per cent who had trouble logging in.
The number of complaints peaked at 3:02 PM IST with reports mostly coming from North America, Europe and India.
As expected, the outage triggered a wave of reactions online. Users took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their frustrations, jokes and confusion about the outage. Many posted screenshots of error messages while others joked about being lost without AI assistance.
Another joked, 'ChatGPT is down. Productivity is gone LOL. I forgot how to work without AI."
A person shared a screenshot of a random query they were asking the chatbot and wrote, 'Y'all, I was using ChatGPT for this stupid question, but apparently, it's down. Switching to Google now."

This outage comes just a couple of months after a similar incident in early April. At that time, many users linked the crash to the sudden popularity of a Studio Ghibli-style image generation feature. There was a major spike in usage on April 2 which led to widespread disruptions.

The Orb captures and processes iris scans, generating a World ID that can be used across various platforms. The company insists that neither iris images nor biometric data are stored or revealed, claiming privacy is a key feature of the system. Reddit's evolving verification needs Currently, Reddit verifies users via email, a method that's proven inadequate in tackling fake accounts and AI-driven spam. With governments across the world pushing for stricter online age verification laws, and platforms struggling to maintain authenticity without compromising anonymity, Reddit appears to be exploring next-gen solutions. In a recent Reddit post, co-founder and CEO Steve Huffman said, 'AI and age verification laws' would eventually require the platform to confirm whether users are 'human and of a certain age.' He added that Reddit would rely on third-party providers to avoid storing user information, emphasising the site's commitment to both anonymity and authenticity. Huffman also raised concerns about the rise of AI content on the platform, writing, 'unwelcome AI in communities is a serious concern. It is the worry I hear most often these days from users and mods alike. Reddit works because it's human. It's one of the few places online where real people share real opinions. That authenticity is what gives Reddit its value. If we lose trust in that, we lose what makes Reddit…Reddit. Our focus is, and always will be, on keeping Reddit a trusted place for human conversation.'
