The following week is going to be a busy one for Oregon Duck fans who follow high school recruiting.
There are some high-profile prospects for whom the Ducks are in a good position to come off the board, and on Wednesday night, one of the most impactful players announced that he's joining the group set to announce his commitment in the coming days.
That player is 5-star quarterback Ryder Lyons, who is rated by 247Sports as the No. 13 player and No. 4 QB in the 2026 class. On Wednesday, Lyons announced that he will officially make his commitment on Tuesday, June 24, following his official visit to the BYU Cougars.
Lyons took his visit to Oregon last week, and with his commitment reportedly coming down to the Ducks and Cougars, it makes sense that he wants to make his decision after this weekend. While Oregon is seen as a strong contender to land Lyons, based on their track record of developing QBs, the offensive system, and his relationship with offensive coordinator Will Stein, BYU is a huge threat here.
Several reports show that the Cougars have offered a massive NIL deal for Lyons, who has strong ties to the morman community and is expected to take an LDS mission out of high school, delaying his freshman year until 2027. Ultimately, it's likely going to come down to which matters more for Lyons; a huge lump sum of money, or the opportunity to play for and be developed by the Ducks.
Ultimately, we will find out next week where the 5-star is going to end up.

Alabama lands commitment from 2026 defensive lineman
Only days after landing a commitment from a 2026 quarterback, the Alabama Crimson Tide have added yet another name to their class in defensive lineman JJ Finch. Finch announced his commitment to Alabama on Sunday afternoon, and is now the eighth member of the Crimson Tide's 2026 class. According to the 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings, Finch is currently considered as the nation's No. 448 overall player in the 2026 class, as well as the No. 50 defensive lineman nationally. A three-star prospect, Finch is also considered as the No. 2 player in the state of Indiana where he attends Warren Central High School. The third prospect to commit to Alabama so far this month, the Crimson Tide are also in the mix for numerous other prospects who are set to announce their decisions in the coming days. 2026 4-star safety out of Mississippi has announce his commitment date
After landing 2026 four-star safety Chace Collins, Texas A&M coach Mike Elko is looking to add at least one more safety in the 2026 cycle. Elko is now wholly focused on landing four-star safety Tylan Wilson, who is coming off his official visit to Texas A&M on July 13 and has already received multiple predictions to land with Texas A&M over the past week. On Sunday, it was revealed that Wilson will announce his commitment on July 18 and will choose between Arkansas, Clemson, and Texas A&M. His commitment will reportedly be streamed, hosted by @Bingomediallc, along with special coverage by WXXV News 25. Wilson had been a longtime Clemson target, but after his Texas A&M OV, Elko and his defensive back staff, especially Jordan Peterson, likely sealed the deal with the Mississippi standout. Wilson's versatility in coverage and ability to play in the box as a hybrid linebacker are key to his development as a productive starter in the SEC. As I've stated throughout the offseason, in the new college football landscape, solid safety play is in high demand. Still, Texas A&M's 2026 safety rotation will lose one starter in senior free safety Bryce Anderson to graduation, while sophomore Myles Davis and freshman Rashad Johnson represent the future starting rotation, which will include Collins and, possibly, Wilson. Standing at 6-2 and 185 pounds, Wilson is currently positioned as 247Sports' 221st-ranked prospect in the 2026 cycle, the 17th-ranked safety, and the 10th-ranked prospect in Mississippi. Texas A&M is predicted to land rising 2026 3-star offensive tackle
Texas A&M hosted 10 prospects in the 2026 recruiting class this weekend, including rising three-star offensive tackle Aaron Thomas, who took his official visit with the Aggies ahead of his commitment announcement on Wednesday, June 25. Thomas will likely finish the year as a four-star recruit, and A&M is currently battling Ohio State and Florida State during the final stretch. However, coach Mike Elko and O-line coach Adam Cushing are likely on the precipice of earning the program's 20th commitment in the 2026 class, as Thomas is now predicted to land with Texas A&M after his OV, which is his final visit of the summer. Predictions have been kind to the Aggies as of late after landing commitments from five-star cornerback Brandon Arrington and five-star edge Tristian Givens over the past three days. Elko and his staff have built an elite foundation built on relationships, trust, and a plan for each player's future development at the next level. For Thomas, working under Cushing could do wonders for his career, as his 6-7, 300-pound frame, coupled with his fluid footwork, makes him a future starting tackle in the making. If the Aggies land Thomas, he would join four-star offensive lineman Samuel Roseborough as the second O-line commit, and likely won't be the last, as three-star offensive tackle Avery Morcho, who took his official visit to Texas A&M on June 13. According to 247Sports, Thomas is currently positioned as the 50th-ranked tackle and the 8th-ranked prospect in Arizona.
