Vic Reeves reveals he's quit TV for good as he shares major career change
Vic Reeves - real name Jim Moir - has revealed in an exclusive chat with The Mirror that he's given up TV for good and plans to spend his time dedicated to a different passion
Vic Reeves was a comedy sensation when he burst on to our TV screens in the 1990s. Alongside his equally funny sidekick, Bob Mortimer, his surrealist humour had the nation howling. But after a career spanning nearly 30 years, he has quit showbiz to devote his life to countryside walks and painting.
It may seem like a dramatic career move, but Vic, 66 – who now uses his real name, Jim Moir – says stage show Vic Reeves Big Night Out was intended to be a work of art. He says: 'I stopped doing comedy years ago now. Me and Bob don't have to go on TV to enjoy that chemistry together. When I started doing Big Night Out, I considered it an art project really, not a comedy. It ended up being that.
'All the work that goes around the production, being famous. I just never really liked being on TV that much.
'The last Vic and Bob was 2017, so that was the last time we did a comedy show.'
But despite turning his back on celebrity, he is never idle. Jim, who lives in Kent with his wife Nancy, 50, says: 'I get up every morning very early, go into the studio, paint, and go out for a walk in the afternoon. I like that a lot better.'
He credits his early childhood experiences in Hurworth, near Darlington, Co Durham, for inspiring his love of nature. And his fascination with the countryside bleeds into his artwork, which often features paintings of birds.
Speaking ahead of his latest exhibition, called Knot Twister Prologue, he recalls: 'There were no laptops when I was a kid. I was outdoors, out in nature all the time.'
'When I was out walking with Nancy 20 years ago, I kept saying 'there is that bird', and I would describe it in detail, and so she wanted to learn about it.
'It gives you a reason to go out, but it is more random than train spotting because you do not know what you are going to see. It is a great excuse to be out there in nature. I never get sick of it. I love it.
Knot Twister Prologue launches on May 16 at the Biscuit Factory as part of The Late Shows, Newcastle and Gateshead's celebration of after-hours culture, with special evening access from 6pm to 10.30pm. All works are for sale. It runs until July 16.

Liverpool music festival halted after Sting's support suffers 'cardiac arrest' live on stage

He didn't have a pulse, he's got one now, we think. Thank you so much." The band had been performing at Liverpool's Pier Head when the drama unfolded. Emma went on: 'I'm just so sorry because Garry loves Liverpool and he wanted to put on the show of his life and we're really devastated but thank you so much.' A message was then displayed to fans after the ordeal, which read: 'We appreciate your patience and understanding. Medical staff are with the performer, and we will provide an update as soon as we can.' The group had been performing at the final night of the 2025 On The Waterfront festival. Thousands of people flocked to the English city as a host of musicians appeared. The Mirror reports the crowd was at capacity and the venue was silent as events took place on stage. There are no further updates on the drummer's condition at the moment but Sting provided information when he took to the stage to close the festival tonight. He said: 'The drummer in the band before is OK. He's in hospital. All of us are praying he's going to be fine. Our thoughts are with him.' Sting is the headliner for the concert, making his long-awaited return to Liverpool as part of his STING 3.0 World Tour. The Christians, from Liverpool, had the highest selling debut album of any artist at Island Records and international chart hits in the late 1980s and early 1990s after forming in 1985. The Christians are made up of Garry Christian (lead vocals), Roger Christian (vocals and instrumentalist), Russell Christian (keyboards, saxophone, vocals), and Henry Priestman (keyboards, guitars, vocals). Priestman, although not a relative, shared the Christian name by coincidence. Early members also included Paul Barlow on drums, Mike Bulger on guitar and vocals, and Tony Jones on bass. Roger Christian stepped away from the group in 1987 and announced he didn't want to tour, focusing on a solo album instead. He passed away in 1998 after a battle with a brain tumour. In 1995, Garry Christian moved to Paris to record his own solo album, Your Cool Mystery, effectively breaking up the band, although no formal announcement was made. The group have since reformed and have been performing again.

Cruz has now stocked the rumour mill by sharing a cryptic, and potentially layered, message via social media. He shared a screenshot of lyrics to a 1969 song by The Beatles called The End. The lyrics shared read: "Love you, love you, love you, love you // Love. And in the end, the love you take // Is equal to the love you make." Eyebrows have been raised as Cruz then added a caption stating: "The truth will unfold." While fans may also note The End was from The Beatles's 1969 album Abbey Road - which was unleashed just before the band broke up and was the last album the group recorded, although it wasn't the last to be released in their name. The Mirror has contacted representatives of the family for comment. Earlier this month it was revealed that Brooklyn and Nicola have bought a new home in California as they try to build their lives together. The couple splashed a reported £10 million on a new home for themselves in Los Angeles. But the purchase has been labelled as a "dagger to the heart" to Brooklyn's family back in England. It comes after the eldest of the siblings has continuously snubbed his parents in recent months, including shunning his dad's 50th birthday celebrations. He also opted against sending a public message of support for the former footballer's knighthood last week. And while the rest of the Beckham clan sent gushing Father's Day messages on social media, Brooklyn appeared to once again shy away from any public adulation. Now, despite speculation due to the move, sources have moved to block any rumours the new home location had anything to do with the feud. Instead, a source told us: "This house has nothing to do with family dynamics. "Both Nicola and Brooklyn's careers are based in Los Angeles, and Brooklyn spent part of his childhood there while his father played for LA Galaxy. During that time, he attended school in LA for several years and built a life and friendships in the city. LA has always felt like home to him." And earlier this week, Dave jetted to Miami, Florida, where he shared photos of a sports complex that is nearing completion of construction. He uploaded snaps from the site showing that he was joined by his wife, Vicky, and their son Cruz - while Brooklyn was clearly not photographed with them.
