McDonald's is bringing back a fan-favorite chicken item… and it's not the snack wrap
McDonald's is rolling out chicken strips to all US restaurants, marking its first permanent menu addition in four years.
It will the second big chicken-related item to be added to menus this spring. The highly anticipated return of the Snack Wrap is tipped to be next month
McCrispy Strips appeared at select locations nationwide today after what the company described as ' countless taste tests.' They will be in all US locations on May 5.
'When we introduce a new menu item like McCrispy Strips, we know we have a big promise to fulfill to meet our customer's expectations,' said North America chief supply chain officer Cesar Piña.
The fast food empire also debuted an all-new Creamy Chili sauce.
Customers can purchase a three or four-count of McCrispy Strips for $4.99-$5.99, and they come with one or two free sauce cups.
The McCrispy Strips, along with the fan-favorite Snack Wrap, will be on the McDonald's 'McValue' platform.
McDonald's has not revealed the Snack Wrap's return date, but an employee claimed it would arrive on Tuesday.
The McCrispy Strips came after multiple customers created petitions to bring back chicken tenders.
'The demand for chicken strips has been remarkable to see across the industry, so we knew we had to deliver something so craveable that it was worth the wait,' said Alyssa Buetikofer, chief marketing and customer experience officer at McDonald's.
'We took our time, listened to our fans and created a product we knew they would crave.'
Fans had already been craving the restaurant chain's snack wraps after it was discontinued in 2016.
Some restaurants served them until 2020 but were eventually removed to make room for new menu items.
Its Chicken Big Mac also caused a fuss when it was available for a limited time last year.
It was considered a participant in the chicken sandwich wars, a years long battle between fast food chains like Popeyes, KFC, Taco Bell, and El Pollo Loco.
Customers interested in eating other chicken offerings can order McCrispy or McChicken sandwiches.
McDonald's has been a strong contender in the chicken sandwich and value meal wars despite its sales declines
While McDonald's has remained a strong contender in the chicken sandwich and value meal wars, it's had multiple sales declines.
The chain's quarterly US comparable sales dropped following a brief E.coli outbreak last year.
It's looking to bounce back from its financial setbacks, and CEO Chris Kempczinski believes protein is one of this year's biggest trends.
'I think protein is going to be a big trend that you see, with people looking to get increased protein consumption,' he said in an Instagram video.
'Protein is hot. Everybody's into protein,' adding that it 'works perfectly' with items like chicken and fish fillets.

4 most overpriced burger chains in the US
Fast-food is no longer as affordable as it used to be, with inflation hitting a record high. Personal finance outlet FinanceBuzz recently revealed the price increases of multiple burger chains over the past decade. The rate of inflation at fast food restaurants seen since 2014 is as follows: McDonald's - 100%, Popeyes - 86%, Taco Bell - 81%, Chipotle - 75%, Jimmy John's - 62%, Arby's, Burger King, Chick-fil-A and Wendy's - 55%, Panera - 54%, Subway and Starbucks - 39%. Historically, fast-food restaurants increased prices by about 2% annually, however since 2022 things changed. McDonald's What better way to start off with a classic! Five years ago, a cheeseburger at McDonald's cost $1. Today, that price has doubled, if not more. According to the Victoria Advocate, that same burger is now $3.15 in South Texas. That reveals a 215% increase. Earlier in the year, a McDonald's restaurant was blasted for its "outrageous" pricing after someone paid more than $7 for an Egg McMuffin. Reddit users also complained about the increased prices with one slamming a $13 Quarter Pounder meal and a $12 Big Mac meal. This has caused frustration amongst the food chain's customers with some even stating that they will not be returning. Five Guys Five Guys drew attention for it high prices earlier in the year where customers claimed they were out of control as it cost $24 for one person. The order, a bacon cheeseburger meal with a regular soda and a small fry, was nearly $22 before tip. '5 guys is the most overpriced burger in the market. I never order from there unless I have a 50% Uber eats discount,' one X user posted in March. 'It's just not worth it at full price.' A burger, fries and soda at Five Guys will cost you $20 on average, according to MoneyGeek, Wendy's Back in February, Wendy's made headlines when its CEO Kirk Tanner announced a new idea to investors which involved 'surge pricing.' That meant that based on demand, menu prices would increase depending on the time of day you would visit the restaurant. Customers would therefore be charged more if they visited during the lunchtime or dinner rush, meaning at least $1 more for a burger. Burger King Three years ago, Burger King customers could get a Whopper meal with a small drink and small fries for $5 with a coupon. Now, that same meal runs for $6.99, though it does come with large sides instead. Family meal deals also saw a big increase. In 2021, $13 would get you three Whoppers, three cheeseburgers, and three small fries. Today, the price has reached $19.99 with medium-sized fries.

Customers can buy it for £7.99 on its own or £9.99 as part of a medium meal with a drink and side. Thomas O'Neill, head of menu at McDonald's UK&I, said it had taken things "up a notch" with the introduction of the Big Arch, adding: "This isn't about size, it's about flavour." However, others have been quick to point out some major flaws in the new menu item. One posted on the Snack Reviews Facebook page: "Very nice but very messy." Another added: "It's very messy, the sauce is nice." Meanwhile, a third said it "looks rank" while a fourth simply added: "Dog mess." Others have pointed out how "overpriced" the burger is, with one saying: "£9.99 for a meal now!" While another added: "It might be nice but just a semi posh up version of a normal big pay over £10 which for McDonald's is a rip off." Why McDonald's Cancelled Its New Drive-Thru Plans in Scottish Town (1) A McDonald's spokesperson said it had received "overwhelmingly positive" feedback from customers about the Big Arch. They added: "We designed the burger with our customers in mind and we're delighted to hear that our most exciting burger ever is thrilling burger fans across the UK - delivering on quality and taste! "As with all of our menu items, we refused to compromise on quality and as our biggest burger ever, the Big Arch contains more beef than other products, so the recommended price and calorie content reflect this. "Our customers return to our restaurants day after day as they know they can rely on us to deliver that quality McDonald's experience they love, at a price they can afford and we're committed to continuing that." It comes after McDonald's launched a major menu shake-up yesterday, which included the new Big Arch burger. OTHER MCDONALD'S NEWS The Sun revealed last month McDonald's had quietly axed the Chicken Bacon Caesar Wrap as part of a "rotation" of its offering. The wrap, which combined chicken breast strips, crispy onions, rashers of bacon and lettuce, was first launched in summer 2023. A spokesperson said: "As part of our regular wrap rotation, we've taken the Caesar wrap off the menu for now. "We're always evolving our menu with our customers in mind to keep things fresh and exciting." Last October, McDonald's announced it was bringing back its iconic McRib after almost 10 years for a limited time. It came after customers begged for the pork-based sandwich, which first launched in 1981, to make a comeback. However, it was quietly discontinued the following month. A host of other items have come off menus in recent years to make way for new ones including the fan favourite Chicken Legend. The Breakfast Bagel and iconic Sundaes have also fallen off menus since 2018. How to save at McDonald's You could end up being charged more for a McDonald's meal based solely on the McDonald's restaurant you choose. Research by The Sun found a Big Mac meal can be up to 30% cheaper at restaurants just two miles apart from each other. You can pick up a Big Mac and fries for just £2.99 at any time by filling in a feedback survey found on McDonald's receipts. The receipt should come with a 12-digit code which you can enter into the Food for Thought website alongside your submitted survey. You'll then receive a five-digit code which is your voucher for the £2.99 offer. There are some deals and offers you can only get if you have the My McDonald's app, so it's worth signing up to get money off your meals. The MyMcDonald's app can be downloaded on iPhone and Android phones and is quick to set up. You can also bag freebies and discounts on your birthday if you're a My McDonald's app user. The chain has recently sent out reminders to app users to fill out their birthday details - otherwise they could miss out on birthday treats. Do you have a money problem that needs sorting?
