‘Jurassic World: Rebirth' brings fans back to dangerous dinosaur realm
Scarlett Johansson's role in "Jurassic World: Rebirth" made her recall her earliest memories of the dinosaur film franchise.
The "Black Widow" actor recalled seeing the first "Jurassic Park" film at the movie theater when she was 10 years old.
"It imprinted on me very deeply,' she told Reuters at the London premiere at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square.
"For the next three decades, I was like, I would have done anything to be in a Jurassic movie in any capacity,' she added.
The franchise, created by Michael Crichton, has spawned several films, merchandising deals and video games.
"Jurassic World: Rebirth," directed by Gareth Edwards, follows a team of specialists that embarks on an expedition to a forbidden island, home to a research facility for the original "Jurassic Park'.
The specialists, played by Johansson and "Bridgerton" actor Jonathan Bailey, must obtain DNA samples from three dinosaurs to achieve a life-saving medical breakthrough.
The Universal Pictures film arrives in theaters on July 2.
For Rupert Friend, this installment in the franchise is exhilarating.
"I love adventure. I love being taken on a ride where you don't know what's going to happen. I love the unknown. I love risk,' he said.
For well-known science fiction director, Edwards, the pressure for the film to succeed did not hit until he arrived at the premiere.
"It's all front and centre here. It feels a bit weird to be honest. I can't quite get my head around it,' the "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" director added. —Reuters

First fossil proof found that long-necked dinosaurs were vegetarians
In the movie 'Jurassic Park,' a character proclaims there is nothing to fear from a towering Brachiosaurus, because it's a 'veggie-saurus' that eats only plants. Littlefoot, the 'Longneck' dinosaur in the 'Land Before Time' series, eats leaves, or 'tree stars.' But although pop culture and general scientific opinion have agreed for decades that the long-necked sauropod dinosaurs were herbivores, there was no definitive proof found in the fossil record. But there were hints of a diet full of green stuff. Fossils of sauropods, which stomped across the planet for 130 million years, are plentiful; additionally, herbivores tend to outnumber those of carnivores. The animals had small, peglike teeth, and their huge, lumbering bodies seemed ill equipped to chase down prey. 'Plants were pretty much the only option,' said Stephen Poropat, a paleontologist and the deputy director of the Western Australian Organic and Isotope Geochemistry Center at Curtin University in Perth. A study published in the journal Current Biology provides what may be the first concrete proof to support this argument, in the form of fossilized plants discovered in the belly of a sauropod. 'It's the smoking gun, or the steaming guts, as it were — the actual direct evidence in the belly of the beast,' Poropat said. At her London studio, Merve Bayindir carefully glues on dried flowers onto a pale pink saucer hat. Nearby, an array of other colourful headpieces are on display. The Turkish-born milliner has been busy making hats for guests attending the annual Royal Ascot racing event, where hoheadwear is a must. "It is the biggest runway. It's the Oscars. It's the Golden is what it is for because you can't see that many amazing hats in one spot at the same time for a week," she told Reuters. The horse-racing event, held in Ascot just outside London, kicks off on June 17 for five days. It has become as much known for the colourful fashion as for the sport. Its various enclosures have different dress codes - the strictest is for the royal enclosure. "You have to have minimum ten centimetres of diameter on a hat," Bayindir said. "So (for) the ladies in royal enclosure, we always say make sure that your hat is not a fascinator," she added, referring to elaborate, decorative headpieces, often fixed on a band or clip. For the Queen Anne and village enclosures, hats, headpieces or fascinators are allowed. In terms of colours, Bayindir said designs in pale pink and blue were annual staples, with fuchsia, sage green and lilac also proving popular lately. As for size, the bigger the better. "It doesn't matter who you are, you can be the star and take that chance and be outrageous," she said. "Royal Ascot itself has a very big personality.
