Soccer-Barcelona's Raphinha named LaLiga Player of the Season

(Reuters) -Barcelona winger Raphinha was named LaLiga Player of the Season on Friday, after the Brazilian played a major role in his side winning the domestic treble, with club teammate Lamine Yamal named Best Under-23 player.
Raphinha contributed 34 goals and 25 assists in 57 club games across all competitions, with Barca winning the league title, Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.
The 28-year-old signed for Barcelona in 2022 from Leeds United and recently signed a contract extension keeping him at the Spanish club until 2028.
Raphinha scored a late goal to put Barcelona ahead in the Champions League semi-final second leg against Inter Milan, only for the Italians to level in stoppage time and net an extra-time winner. That was Raphinha's 13th goal in 14 games of this season's competition.
Yamal, still only 17, confirmed his status as one of the world's top talents after last season's breakthrough campaign, with the winger netting nine league goals along with five in the Champions League.

Dominant Marc Marquez claims Italian MotoGP pole
MUGELLO, Italy: Marc Marquez took pole position for the Italian MotoGP on Saturday as the championship leader attempts to continue his domination of this season at Mugello. Six-time elite world champion Marc Marquez took his sixth pole of the year with a time of one minute and 44.169 seconds, 0.059sec ahead of rival and Ducati teammate Francesco Bagnaia. Italian Bagnaia, who has won the last three races at Mugello, trails Marc Marquez by 93 points after eight Grand Prix weekends. Marc Marquez will lead the grid for Saturday's sprint race which gets underway at 1500 local time (1300GMT) and has a great chance to extend his 32-point championship lead over his brother Alex Marquez. The Spanish motorcycling great has won five of this season's eight sprint races and four GPs. KTM rider Alex Marquez was 0.83sec off the pace and will complete the front row of the grid in third position.

It was Marquez's sixth pole of the season and the 72nd MotoGP pole of his career to go with his 14 poles in Moto2 and 14 more in the 125cc World Championship. "I'm super happy because it was a real pole position, it was without (using) the slipstreams, alone and just trying to find my limits," Marquez said. "The pace was not bad but (I have to) be patient because in the afternoon with a warm temperature, it can change everything. But at the moment we are there and ready to fight for the sprint and main race." Marquez initially took provisional pole when he slotted in behind his brother Alex and used the Gresini bike's slipstream to his advantage. As Alex crossed the line with the fastest time, Marc snatched top spot from him less than a second later with a lap record. Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo then broke the record but before he could celebrate, Marc's Italian team mate Francesco Bagnaia went even faster on his home track where he has won the last three Grands Prix. However, Marc had one more flying lap left in him and when the Spaniard crossed the line, he set a time of one minute and 44.169 seconds to pip Bagnaia to pole by 0.059 seconds. Alex will join them on the front row. "I tried everything in qualifying, Marc was in super shape and it's tough to beat him. I wanted to start on the front row and this was the best result in qualifying (for me) this season," Bagnaia said. Quartararo was only fourth fastest despite breaking the lap record and he will be joined on the second row by KTM's Maverick Vinales and VR46 Racing's Franco Morbidelli. Jackson had been on the pitch for only four minutes in the second half when he was shown a straight red for a nasty studs-up challenge on Ayrton Lucas, his second red card in four matches. "I want to say sorry. To the club, the staff, my team mates, and all the fans watching, I let you down," Jackson, who turned 24 on Friday, wrote on Instagram. "Another red card... and honestly, I'm so angry at myself. I work very hard every day to help the team not to put us in this kind of situation. I still don't fully understand how it happened. But one thing is clear: it wasn't intentional. Just a football moment that went the wrong way. "No excuses. I take full responsibility. I'll reflect, I'll grow, and I'll come back stronger for the badge and for everyone who believes in me. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry." Jackson will serve a minimum one-game suspension. Chelsea next face Esperance Sportive de Tunis on Wednesday. Jackson was sent off against Newcastle in a Premier League game last month for a similar challenge.
