Kuching OCPD: Lamborghini driver reported fatal Jalan Airport accident, not hit-and-run

KUCHING (May 29): Police have ruled out a hit-and-run in the fatal accident involving a Lamborghini and a pedestrian at Jalan Airport here on Tuesday evening.
Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed today that the 54-year-old businessman driving the Lamborghini came forward to lodge a police report within the required 24-hour timeframe.
'The Lamborghini driver lodged the police report an hour after the accident. He did not run but reported the incident,' he told The Borneo Post.
He added that the driver was subsequently arrested to facilitate investigation and is now a suspect in the case.
According to Alexson, the driver stated that he was travelling from Jalan Airport to Padungan when the incident occurred.
Meanwhile, the police have identified the deceased pedestrian as Chinese national Bi Guang Dong, 52, a general worker involved in the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) lane construction.
Alexson said Bi was crossing the road when he was struck by the Lamborghini.
He was subsequently declared dead at the scene by medical personnel from the Sarawak General Hospital.
'In the meantime, the body of the deceased is still at the Sarawak General Hospital, awaiting claims from family members in China,' said Alexson.
Police have classified the case as dangerous or reckless driving that results in death, an offence under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
The Section provides for five to 10 years in jail and a fine of between RM20,000 and RM50,000 upon conviction.

SERDANG: District police have solved a house break-in and a series of snatch thefts with the arrest of seven suspects in two separate cases. In the first case, two men with criminal records were detained over a burglary in Bandar Putra Permai here. "The suspects aged 20 to 30 were detained on June 19. "We believe they are responsible for cases in Serdang, Kajang and Subang Jaya," he said. Kelantan sees sharp drop in smuggled firearms cases after border crackdown
KOTA BARU: The number of firearm smuggling cases into Kelantan from a neighbouring country has seen a significant decline, dropping more than sixfold following intensified border enforcement since December last year. State police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said this marked a positive outcome from joint operations by the police and General Operations Force, particularly in districts close to the border. He said police have seized nine firearms, including seven imitation weapons, in several operations across the state since the beginning of this year. In comparison, police seized 64 imitation firearms and 16 genuine ones throughout last year. "Since the intensified enforcement, we have seen a significant drop in firearms seizures. "This indicates that our current border control measures are effective, and those involved in smuggling activities are no longer bold enough to bring illegal firearms into Kelantan," he said. Mohd Yusoff said most of the seizures this year took place in Pasir Mas and Rantau Panjang. "Most of the weapons were seized from those involved in drug-related and other criminal activities," he said. He believed that firearms smuggled from the neighbouring country were once popular among locals due to their easy availability and significantly lower prices. It is understood that genuine firearms can be obtained from across the border at a much cheaper price compared to the local black market, where such weapons are sold for between RM3,000 and RM5,000 each. As for imitation firearms, prices in Malaysia typically range between RM200 and RM500 per unit, while in the neighbouring country, they can be bought for as low as RM50 to RM100 each.

Chinese, Bangladeshis nabbed as scam and e-waste ops busted
KUALA LUMPUR: The Immigration Department has busted an online scam ring and illegal e-waste site in Klang Valley, arresting dozens of foreigners including Chinese and Bangladeshi nationals after surveillance and public tip offs. Immigration Department director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said following intelligence gathering, two high-end residences in Kajang and Kuala Lumpur were raided on suspicion of being used for scam activities last Thursday. During the raids, Immigration detained four men, three women and a young girl from China, along with one Taiwanese man, he said. "All those arrested, aged between four and 43, are suspected of committing offences under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963," Zakaria said in a statement today. In an another operation, enforcement officials detained 39 foreigners during a raid on an illegal electronic waste (e-waste) disposal centre in Pulau Indah, Klang. Zakaria said those arrested included Chinese nationals and Bangladeshi men, aged between 25 and 49. Both the raids were conducted by enforcement officers from the Immigration Department headquarters in Putrajaya, with cooperation from the National Registration Department (NRD). Zakaria warned that the Immigration Department would not compromise with foreigners who stay illegally, overstay, or abuse their passes in the country.
