Rahmah sale brings big savings to shoppers in Seremban
SEREMBAN: 'The prices are amazing...so much cheaper than the market. I can save a lot' - that was the reaction of a buyer at the Rahmah MADANI Sales Programme (PJRM) organised by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) here today.
Contractor Hasrul Hashim, 38, from Ampangan, said the sale gave him great relief in managing his family's expenses especially with the increasing prices of basic goods in the market.
'It's not just a cheap sale, but a monthly saver. This is my second time at a Rahmah Sale programme, and my first to this sale here. I'm excited because the prices of the goods offered are a lot cheaper.
'Even though there's a supermarket right in front of my house, I prefer coming to this sale. I can save up to 60 per cent on purchases. So I hope the government will continue to hold this kind of sale and at more places,' he said when met by Bernama at the PJRM in Dataran Ampangan today.
Housewife Mariam Abdul Kadir, 68, described the sale as not only helping her financially but also saving her time and energy because the location is closer to her home.
'This sale is held near a restaurant, so while I was here for breakfast, I decided to stop by. From a distance, I notice the signboard displaying much cheaper prices for various items like eggs, sardines and flour,' she said.
A food trader, Zalina Yeon, 65, said the programme not only benefits those with limited means but also provides small and medium-sized traders with the opportunity to buy goods for sale at lower prices.
'I always go to this kind of sale. I'll check the prices, and if they are reasonable, I'll buy. This sale offers affordable prices. When we can get raw materials at lower prices, it allows us to sell our food at cheaper prices too,' she said.
The programme, which opens from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm, offered, among others, fresh chicken at RM7 per kilogramme (kg), grade B eggs (RM9), five kg of cooking oil (RM25) and one kg of wheat flour (RM2.50).
Meanwhile, Negeri Sembilan KPDN director Muhammad Zahir Mazlan said PJRM recorded a total sales value of RM51.95 million through 21 series involving 732 programmes across the state since last January.

Culinary Students Need Exposure To Cutting-edge Kitchen Equipment
ALOR GAJAH, June 21 (Bernama) -- The culinary industry today is evolving not only in menus, techniques, and ingredients, but also in the sophistication of kitchen equipment. Melaka Chefs Association president Chef Rizwandy Perin said that whether in a hotel kitchen, restaurant or at home, cooking equipment such as stoves, mixers or ovens is becoming more sophisticated, in line with advances in kitchen technology. 'The culinary field is also entering a phase where sophisticated equipment is essential, and therefore, students in this field need to be exposed to modern tools as early as possible before entering the industry. "I see competitions such as the 2025 Melaka Culinary Challenge as valuable platforms for providing opportunities and exposure to participants and student chefs, especially those in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) field, to experience using sophisticated kitchen equipment sponsored by several major companies,' he said at the culinary competition at the Freeport A'Famosa Outlet here today. Commenting further on the competition, now in its third year, Rizwandy expressed hope that more parties would come forward to collaborate in making the culinary challenge a success. The event, recognised by the World Association of Chefs' Societies (WACS), has even drawn the attention of professional judges from Thailand, Germany, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, and Italy. He said this is important not only as a platform to expose aspiring chefs to the industry, but also as a means to promote Melaka as a culinary tourism destination. 'We are targeting at least a thousand participants or more in the fourth edition compared to this year's 500 participants and most importantly, cooperation from the state government, especially the tourism promotion agency and even the state TVET council, can be improved since it is in line with the government's desire to produce as many TVET graduates as possible,' he added. -- BERNAMA

Civil Service Still In Demand, SPA Expects 1.3 Mln Applications This Year
BUTTERWORTH, June 21 (Bernama) -- The Public Service Commission of Malaysia (SPA) expects continued strong interest among Malaysians, including youths, to join the civil service this year, with applications projected to reach up to 1.3 million. Its chairman, Datuk Dr Ahmad Jailani Muhamed Yunus, said the estimate was based on application trends and the encouraging response to the Kembara Kerjaya SPA outreach programme. 'In previous years, we received up to 1.2 million applications and this year, we may reach 1.3 million. This indicates that interest in civil service careers remains high, despite the discontinuation of the pension scheme. 'Therefore, we are intensifying our outreach efforts to ensure that job-seeking youths are well-informed of current opportunities in the public sector through SPA,' he told reporters at the Kembara Kerjaya SPA @ Penang 2025 programme here today. The programme aims to raise awareness and provide exposure to SPA services, to help individuals chart a career path in the public service. Ahmad Jailani said the Kembara Kerjaya programme has been held in Sabah, Sarawak, Terengganu and Penang during the first half of this year, attracting more than 10,000 visitors. Besides physical events, the programme is also conducted virtually and has drawn significant traffic to the SPA website. He said the next edition will be in Kelantan next month, followed by Putrajaya, Melaka, Perak, Johor and Kuala Lumpur, to provide the public with a platform for direct and interactive engagement with SPA personnel. 'Visitors will also receive guidance on application procedures, status updates and recruitment consultations through SPA briefing sessions during the programme,' he said.

MADANI Adopted School Programme Helps Provide Better Access, Equal Opportunities For Students
GENERAL By Siti Baaqiah Mamat & Nurfardlina Izzati Moktar KUALA LUMPUR, June 21 (Bernama) -- The involvement of corporate companies in the success of the MADANI Adopted School Programme is seen as capable of enhancing the competitiveness of students in underprivileged and rural schools, in addition to providing them with better access to quality education and more equal opportunities. Malaysian Inclusive Development and Advancement Institute, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (Minda-UKM) deputy director Dr. Anuar Ahmad said that this measure is also believed to help address the educational gap between urban and rural areas, thereby strengthening the national education system. "We realise that financial assistance is very important, especially for schools in rural areas that face a lack of basic facilities and learning materials such as the latest devices, so with additional financial resources, schools can provide a more conducive learning environment. "The industry can also contribute through early career exposure. They can visit schools to give briefings so that students can understand earlier about job opportunities, courses or educational pathways, and the skills needed in the real industry," he told Bernama. Yesterday, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek announced the selection of nearly 1,000 schools for the MADANI School Adoption Programme, implemented in collaboration with 117 private companies, aimed at addressing the education gap across the country. The programme, which started in April, is jointly coordinated by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and Ministry of Finance (MOF), and the first phase is expected to be completed by Dec 31, with a programme extension subject to the results of the first phase. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, at the programme's launch event yesterday, also encouraged corporate figures and representatives of the sponsoring companies of the MADANI Adopted School Programme to visit the schools to engage with and provide early exposure to students about the importance of education for their future. Dr Anuar said that the involvement of the corporate company not only strengthened the school's resources and facilities but also increased students' motivation, interest, and aspirations towards learning, and helped them plan their future career paths more clearly and competitively.
