Damaged underground power cables in Trichy to be replaced
Trichy: Tangedco has sanctioned 25 lakh to replace the damaged underground power cables connecting the Ammapettai substation in rural Trichy to Inamkulathur town. The power cables beneath the railway level crossing on Trichy to Dindigul railway lines sustained damages and became defunct after the 2018 Gaja cyclone.
After the disruption, Tangedco supplied power to Inamkulathur and adjoining localities including Puthukkulam and Keelapatti from the Viralimalai substation.
The underground power cables will be installed for 70m long and as per the safety norms, security casing will be provided around the new cables. Cables will be laid under the trenchless method, without causing any disturbance to the railway crossing area.
Tangedco took up the project after a request from Trichy MP Durai Vaiko in April. "Residents have been facing issues in power supply due to the temporary measure, which became permanent over a period. I will closely follow the whole process till new cables are laid," Durai Vaiko said.
Officials said the new cables will be installed in the next few months.
The existing cables were installed in 1998.

Railways clears decks for three RoBs, two subways in Trichy: MP
Trichy: Southern Railway is exploring the construction of three new road overbridges (RoBs) and two subways to ease traffic congestion in densely populated areas near railway tracks in and around Trichy, MP Durai Vaiko said on Friday. After reviewing the proposals with officials from the Trichy railway division, the MP also confirmed that the Maris RoB is expected to be commissioned by June 2026. He visited several proposed sites, including Devathanam near Town railway station, Mela Kumaresapuram near BHEL, Mela Kalkandarkottai, and Manjathidal near Thiruverumbur. "Work for a new RoB near Town railway station is being expedited. Instead of constructing a subway for the new RoB, the railways were suggested to provide a subway for another level crossing near Town railway station to allow vehicles to reach Sanjeevi Nagar. A drain managed by the Trichy corporation runs nearby; there is feasibility for a new subway," the MP told reporters. The MP added that railway authorities are optimistic about developing a new RoB in Mela Kumaresapuram to help villagers access the BHEL Trichy complex. However, the support of the water resources and rural development departments is vital for the plan. He further noted that another new RoB is proposed at Mela Kalkandarkottai and a subway with modified specifications at Manjathidal, near the upcoming MEMU shed. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo "The new subway will be both taller and wider than the one proposed earlier, enabling vehicles, including small cars, to access the residential areas. "Railways have assured that their scope of work will be completed by Jan 2026. Trichy corporation will then take over the remaining work to link the approach roads," Durai Vaiko said. Earlier, he inspected the Ponmalai railway workshop, where a dedicated maintenance facility for Vande Bharat trains is proposed at a cost of 300 crore. New RoBs: 1. This is a deliberate provocation. In Puri, even today, non-Hindus are not allowed to enter the Jagannath Temple - such is the sanctity attached to the Lord and His traditions. Transformer tenders case: HC orders notice to Senthil Balaji
Chennai: Madras high court on Friday ordered the issuance of a fresh notice to former minister V Senthil Balaji on a public interest writ petition alleging a 397-crore scam in transformer procurement by Tangedco. Justice P Velmurugan ordered the fresh notice as the govt counsel informed the court that notices were already served to DVAC and other official respondents except Senthil Balaji. The court then adjourned the hearing to July 3. The issue pertains to a PIL moved by anti-corruption NGO Arappor Iyakkam. According to the NGO, 10 tenders worth 1,182.88 crore were floated for the procurement of 45,800 transformers between 2021 and 2023. A detailed review of the tender documents allegedly revealed that the contracts were structured in a way that benefited certain contractors, resulting in a loss of 397 crore to the state exchequer. In seven tenders, all the bidders from 25 to 37 quoted the same price, which contravenes the provisions of Tender Transparency Act, the NGO said. Instead of quashing the tender and calling for fresh bidding, TANGEDCO went ahead and awarded the contract, they said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Dubai villas | search ads Get Deals Undo The NGO further alleged that the tender for the procurement of 500kVA transformers was awarded at an inflated price of 12.49 lakh for each transformer, while the value of the transformer when floating the tender was just 7.89 lakh. It alleged that no case was registered so far, based on its complaint. Therefore, the petitioner wanted the court to order a probe into the allegations by a special investigative team formed under supervision of high court. They further alleged the involvement of former electricity minister Senthil Balaji in the scam, along with the then Tangedco chairman and managing director Rajesh Lakhoni.
