Andhra Pradesh: TTD proposes renaming Renigunta airport after Lord Venkateswara
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) chairman B R Naidu on Wednesday said that a proposal has been made to rename Renigunta airport as Sri Venkateswara International Airport.
Naidu said that a recommendation has been sent to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the airport will be redesigned with aesthetics reflecting Tirumala's spiritual and devotional atmosphere.
"A proposal has been made to rename Renigunta airport after Lord Sri Venkateswara. The airport will reflect Tirumala's divine aesthetics," said, Naidu addressing a press conference.
The TTD chairman said that the temple body plans to construct a Srivari temple at a prime location in Bengaluru, subject to land allotment by the Karnataka government.
Union Minister for Heavy Industries Kumara Swamy has agreed to provide 100 electric buses to TTD, and efforts are underway to bring them to Tirumala shortly, said the temple body in the release.
TTD has also decided to lease space in Tirupati for establishing a CSIR Lab to verify quality of ghee, water and food used in temple offerings.
Naidu said that the 73-year-old Sri Venkateswara college in Delhi will be modernised while a three-member panel headed by TTD chairman will resolve issues of 200 contract lecturers before new recruitments proceed.
TTD's Dharmic (religious) wing will launch initiatives including priesthood training for backward groups, Sadgamaya (enlightenment /righteousness) for student ethics, and Saubhagyam (good fortune), a programme for women on Varalakshmi Vratam (sacred observance) day.
Other programmes include Akshara Govindam for children, Harikatha Vaibhavam, Sanmargam for prisoners, Giri Janardhanam in tribal areas, and Vana-Nidhi for promoting spiritual and ecological values.

YSRCP slams govt for politicizing tragic accident
Vijayawada: The YSRCP has strongly condemned the TDP coalition's attempt to politicize the tragic accident that resulted in the death of party activist Cheeli Singaiah during YS Jagan Mohan Reddy 's recent visit. Former minister Ambati Rambabu said that it was unfortunate to portray the accident as a big conspiracy, instead of treating the matter with the sensitivity it deserves. "The ruling coalition is attempting to exploit it for political gain," Ambati alleged. Ambati criticized the Naidu-led govt for failing to provide adequate security to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, a Z+ security protectee. "A rope party and road clearance team must lead the convoy, but the government has deliberately compromised on Jagan's security," Ambati alleged. This is not an isolated instance, as similar security failures were observed during YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's tours in Rapthadu and Podili. The coalition govt is using these lapses to orchestrate a character assassination campaign against the former CM, he claimed. The YSRCP demands a transparent and impartial investigation into both the accident and the security lapses that continue to put the life of a Z+ protectee at risk. "We urge the state govt to immediately rectify these lapses and stop using such incidents to settle political scores," Ambati said. The party reiterates that human tragedy must never be used as a political weapon.

AP: Government to hold review meeting on completion of 1 year in office

Chandrababu Naidu headed Andhra Pradesh Government will conduct a special meeting titled 'First Step towards Good Governance' on June 23 in Amaravati, near here. The event will be held on a specially arranged dais behind the Secretariat. Originally scheduled for June 12, the meeting was postponed due to the tragic plane crash near Ahmedabad. In tomorrow's session, the government will review administrative reforms introduced over the past year, changes implemented, welfare measures delivered, and efforts made towards the state's development. A key focus will be on how to realize people's aspirations and meet developmental targets over the next four years. The district Collectors, SPs, HODs, Secretaries, MLAs, Ministers, and MPs from all 26 districts will participate in the event being held in Amaravati. Dravidian University in Kuppam faces backlash for selling trees, sparking environmental concerns
Dravidian University in Kuppam is now caught in a row over the alleged indiscriminate felling of trees on its 1,100-acre campus. Established in 1997 with a mission to promote Dravidian languages, culture and heritage, in coordination with the southern States of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala, the university is facing severe public criticism that the administration is selling mature trees to private parties in Karnataka since a couple of months. Srinivasavanam project The campus is known for its lush greenery and panoramic view of hillocks surrounded by dense woods. The Srinivasavanam project, a unique initiative sponsored by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), is credited with the success of the greenery story on the campus for more than a decade. The green and healthy trees are now being chopped down and disposed to private parties at cheaper rates ₹3,000 per tonne, as against ₹5,000 per tonne five years ago. Since April, the drive is said to have generated a revenue of ₹7 lakh this way. A senior official of the university defended the move, saying that a severe financial crunch along with poor financial support from the governments of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala prompted the university administration to resort to felling of trees, at least to generate minimum funds. The official maintained that funds meant for the maintenance of greenery on the campus, ₹50 lakh per annum from the TTD, are now being used to meet the escalating electricity bills. On the flip side, the university officials are said to have used a partial amount from the proceeds of tree felling to purchase two vehicles to manage campus upkeep. Nature lovers cry foul Nature lovers and local youth of Kuppam, who are accustomed to frequenting the panoramic landscapes in and around the university, deplored that the felling of healthy trees is a brazen act of ecological rupture. A revenue official in Kuppam said that though efforts were made to dissuade the university management from stopping the felling of trees, no concrete measures have been initiated to stop the destruction. A couple of NGOs in Chittoor district said that they would take the issue to the notice of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who has been the MLA of Kuppam since 1989, and demand a high-level inquiry into the environmental damage on the university campus.
