YSRCP leader accuses TTD of planning to end Veda Parayanam

YSR Congress Party undivided Chittoor district president and former TTD chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy on Friday alleged that the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams management was planning to end Veda Parayanam at the temple and termed it a sacrilege of the highest order. However, the TTD condemned the remarks of Mr. Reddy and said that there was never any plan to end Veda Parayanam. Mr. Reddy at a media conference here on Friday (June 20) also accused a senior Devasthanams official of recently making fun of Veda Parayanam and terming it 'a waste of time'. He questioned how the officials of the temple management, who are required to uphold the Vedic Dharma, could make such irresponsible comments and belittle the age old traditions followed for centuries at the ancient temple. He also accused that the TTD authorities under the new regime were subjecting the priests to harassment by forcing them to undergo physical frisking, a practice that never existed in the past. Making light of TTD Chairman B.R. Naidu's oft-repeated phrase 'Artificial intelligence' to provide quick Darshan to pilgrims, Mr. Reddy said that the devotees were not even allowed into the queue lines to avoid showing rush and thus painting a rosy picture. Responding strongly, the TTD management condemned all the above allegations and also refuted allegation that priests were subjected to physical frisking. The frisking of employees entering and exiting the Parakamani currency counting centre, a long existing practice, was further strengthened by putting in place a Standard Operating Procedure, in view of an incident in 2023.

Tirupati temple trust increases its free bus fleet, plans security revamp

As the number of pilgrims visiting Tirumala steadily climbs, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) on Thursday increased its free bus services for devotees within the temple town. The trust has also been planning to overhaul its security infrastructure, especially at the checkpoint near the Sri Venkateswara Temple. On June 15, the temple saw a peak footfall of 90,815 pilgrims, with the waiting time for darshan extending to approximately 18 hours. Flagging off a fleet of compressed natural gas (CNG) buses operated by the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), TTD Additional Executive Officer (EO) C Venkaiah Chowdary said the initiative aims to address both environmental and financial concerns. 'Devotees can travel in these buses free of cost to various destinations within Tirumala. The service has been launched to curb the high fares charged by private operators and to reduce pollution,' Chowdary said at the launch event at Ashwini Hospital Circle. Officials said that most private vehicles operating in Tirumala are diesel-run jeeps, which not only charge exorbitant fares to ferry devotees to other temples and tourist spots but also contribute significantly to pollution. The initiative has an added goal of discouraging the entry of diesel vehicles into the hill town. Until now, TTD operated a limited fleet of free CNG buses under the 'Srivari Dharma Rathas' service, running approximately 300 trips daily on designated routes. However, these did not cover all of Tirumala. The APSRTC buses will now run parallel to the existing service, with a bus available every two minutes, which is down from a wait time of eight minutes, officials said. In a separate development, TTD is preparing to revamp its security infrastructure in anticipation of a further rise in daily footfall, which is expected to cross one lakh pilgrims in the near future. TTD Executive Officer J Syamala Rao and Additional EO Chowdary held a review meeting Thursday to discuss plans to modernise the Alipiri Check Point, where all vehicles, luggage, and pilgrims are screened before proceeding up the hill. Currently, the checkpoint operates with a basic security setup. Officials said TTD now wants state-of-the-art scanning systems and faster checks to reduce congestion. RAXA Security Solutions, a GMR Group company, made a presentation on its suggestions to upgrade the checkpoint. The EO asked the firm to propose both short- and long-term solutions to accommodate increasing crowds. While a final contract is yet to be awarded, the EO has directed TTD's Vigilance Wing to begin some immediate measures. These include installing physical barriers to prevent people from bypassing the check while personnel are busy with others, and replacing the existing luggage scanners with rugged, high-capacity ones. The number of scanners will be increased, and authorities will explore the feasibility of extending the luggage conveyor belts to speed up the process. Additional security personnel will also be posted to activate two currently unused lanes at the checkpoint. Meanwhile, TTD has proposed to the Ministry of Civil Aviation that the Renigunta airport near Tirupati be renamed as Sri Venkateswara International Airport. TTD Chairman B R Naidu said that he wants the airport to 'reflect Tirumala's spiritual aesthetics'.

AventaMed, a KARL STORZ Company, Receives Expanded Indication for Solo+ Tympanostomy Tube Device (TTD)

Clearance Makes Office-Based Procedure Available to a Wider Range of Patients EL SEGUNDO, Calif., June 18, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--KARL STORZ United States is proud to announce that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared an expanded indication for the AventaMed Solo+™ Tympanostomy Tube Device (TTD), allowing its use in pediatric patients aged 6 months and older. This expanded clearance builds on the previous 510(k) clearance, which was indicated for patients 6 to 24 months old. The Solo+ device represents a significant advancement in pediatric ENT care. It is intended to deliver a tympanostomy tube (also known as a ventilation tube) into a patient's tympanic membrane, or eardrum, to treat problems arising from ear infections. Traditionally, this procedure would be performed in an operating room under general anesthesia. The Solo+ device offers a convenient alternative. Using as little as a topical anesthetic, the Solo+ device integrates multiple functions into a single, user-friendly instrument, deploying the tube with the press of a button. As a result, it enables tympanostomies to be performed in an office setting. New clinical findings support the safe and effective use of the Solo+ device, showing that physicians were consistently able to complete the procedure in the office as intended—without needing to move to the operating room. The Solo+ Tympanostomy Tube Device demonstrated consistent, reliable performance across pediatric age groups, with strong follow-up outcomes. These results provide both guardians and physicians with greater confidence in selecting an office-based approach to ear tube placement for a wider range of children. "On behalf of patients and their families, we are excited by this expanded indication," said Chris Smith, VP of Sales & Marketing, Head & Neck Division, at KARL STORZ US. "This makes it possible to offer this effective treatment to a broad population. With clear advantages like avoiding general anesthesia, reducing total procedural costs, and delivering high patient satisfaction, the Solo+ device will benefit doctors and patients alike. It's part of our commitment to provide technology that addresses real-world needs." About Ear Infections Chronic ear infections are a leading reason for doctor visits among young children.1-3 Children are more susceptible to this potentially painful condition, which can adversely affect the ability to hear.1 Treatment often involves procedures known as myringotomy and tympanostomy. Myringotomy involves making an incision in the eardrum to drain excess fluid from the middle ear. It is sometimes performed as a standalone treatment, but is often combined with tympanostomy, in which a tiny tube is inserted in the eardrum to alleviate pressure and allow fluid to drain. The procedure is common: by the age of three, nearly 1 in every 15 children will have had ear tubes.3 About KARL STORZ Since its founding in Germany in 1945, KARL STORZ has grown to become a leading global supplier of endoscopy solutions, including imaging and integration across all sites of care. Now in its third generation, the family-owned company employs 9,400 people in more than 40 countries worldwide. The company acquired the Solo+ technology through the acquisition of AventaMed, which was spun off from Munster Technological University in 2015. For more information, visit 1 Ahmed S et al.
