UFC Fight Night 2025 in Abu Dhabi: Fight card revealed
It's time to touch gloves in the capital (again)…
UFC and MMA fans, there's big news for you: UFC Fight Night is making an electrifying return to the capital for a second edition this summer, on Saturday, July 26 at the Etihad Arena on Yas Island. And now, we have details on the fight card which will be headlined by a middleweight bout between No.5-ranked Aussie Robert Whittaker and Reinier de Ridder of the Netherlands.
Whittaker enters the octagon in Abu Dhabi with a 27-8-0 record and wins over names such as Yoel Romero, Jared Cannonier and Marvin Vettori. Dutchman de Ridder touches gloves on Yas with a 20-2-0 record, and a reputation as a fast-rising star on the UFC's middleweight circuit.
Other confirmed fights for July 26 include Russian Nikita Krylov vs. Uzbek Bogdan Guskov in the light heavyweight class, Ramazan Temirov (19-3-0) taking on Almaty-based Asu Almabayev in flyweights, and Turkish Ibo Aslan who will meet Billy Elekana of the US in a light heavyweight bout that is expected to produce some serious fireworks.

While UFC events have become a mainstay on the UAE's sports and entertainment calendar with 20 events being held here since 2010, 2024 saw the first time Abu Dhabi hosted two official UFC events in the same year, with a simmering fight card at UFC Fight Night on August 3 being followed-up by UFC 308 on October 26, 2024. This year is expected to follow suit, with a second, larger event following the July 26 Fight Night, landing in the Etihad Arena presumably in October.
Last year's UFC Fight Night saw a mouthwatering main event clash between bantamweight Russian Umar Nurmagomedov and Cory Sandhagen of the US, with the former picking up a victory after a high-quality, five-round contest that had some of the biggest names in the game in attendance including one of the greatest ever to step inside an octagon, Khabib 'The Eagle' Nurmagomedov himself, cage side at the Etihad Arena.

Vondrousova surprises World No.1 Sabalenka to reach Berlin final
Marketa Vondrousova brushed aside world number one Aryna Sabalenka in Berlin on Saturday to reach her first final since lifting the Wimbledon title two years ago. Two games down Vondrousova levelled at 2-2, then broke to lead 5-4, wrapping up the win — her first ever over a world number one — but not before saving three consecutive break points, with an ace after one hour five minutes of play. Sabalenka, 27, was losing only her first semi-final in eight last four appearances in 2025. Wang, Vondrousova's Sunday rival on the grass in Berlin, continued her "dream" run, adding the scalp of Russian Samsonova to those already collected this week including French Open champion Coco Gauff. For the 23-year-old, Sunday is a landmark moment - her first singles final on the WTA circuit. "This week has been a dream for me," Wang said. "I've been playing unbelievable tennis here. I don't know, it's something with Berlin, I guess! "Coming into this match here, coming into every match, I wasn't expecting anything, you know. For me, it was really just to enjoy the stage." Frech stuns sixth-seed Andreeva, lucky loser Jabeur powers through
Poland's Magdalena Frech came from a set down to battle past world number seven Mirra Andreeva of Russia 2-6 7-5 6-0 on Monday, booking a place in the Berlin Open round of 16 and staging the upset of the tournament. The 18-year-old sixth seed looked to be cruising to victory when she bagged the first set with an audacious backhand slice dropshot on her fourth set point against Frech. The world number 25, however, was far from finished, breaking at the start of the second set with Andreeva losing her calm and hitting a ball high out of the court. With Andreeva's composure rapidly eroding and her unforced error count shooting up, Frech levelled when the Russian teenager's slice forehand sailed long. The Pole then powered past Andreeva with a bagel in the third, sealing her win when Andreeva sent another forehand wide. It is the first time Andreeva has lost a deciding set with a 6-0 scoreline in her professional career, and it was Frech's second top ten win of her career. Lucky loser Ons Jabeur, beaten on Sunday in the last qualifying round, made the most of her unexpected chance with a 7-6 6-1 win over American Caroline Dolehide. Jabeur, a two-time Wimbledon finalist, looked comfortable on grass ahead of the season's third Grand Slam in London starting on June 30.
