Woman pilot molested in cab in city, driver detained
Mumbai: The driver of an aggregator cab has been detained for re-rerouting his vehicle while driving a woman pilot home, stopping and allowing in two men who went on to sexually harass the 28-year-old passenger on Thursday night.
A hunt is on for the two men, reports Mateen Hafeez.
The woman hired the cab in Fort to go home in an eastern suburb around 11pm when midway the two unidentified men got in. While one of them touched her inappropriately, the other threatened her as she screamed in fear. They got out and left when the driver slowed down before a police nakabandi. "We have detained the driver and a probe is on," said a police officer about the FIR filed on Saturday.
A woman pilot, who has complained of sexual harassment in an aggregator cab, told the police she came to CSMT station to meet her husband on Thursday evening. Her husband booked a cab at 10.45pm for her from the Fort area.
After some time, she got into the vehicle and started towards her residence. "After travelling for about 25 minutes, the driver suddenly changed the route, stopped the vehicle and made two unknown men get in.
One of them sat in the front seat, and the other sat next to me in the rear. Both were aged between 25 and 30 years," the complainant stated in the FIR.
She added the man sitting next to her grabbed her right hand and twisted it backwards. As she screamed in fear, the other man sitting in front of her threatened her to be quiet. Then the man moved his hand over her thigh. At that time, the driver was driving and did not react.
She stated there was a police nakabandi on the road and the driver slowed down.
At that time, both the men got out of the car and fled. She added since she did not travel much in Mumbai, she had no idea where she was. Also, due to raindrops on the glass of the cab, she could not see much outside. After that, the cab driver took her to her address.
She asked the driver who those men were and why he had let them into his car. The driver stayed silent, she said in the FIR. She added she was in a state of panic, paid the fare of Rs 530, and he left.
On Friday night, she and her husband went to the police station. The FIR was lodged around 1am Saturday against the driver and the men. Police booked the three under sections 75(1) (sexual harassment), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and 3 (5) (when a criminal act is done by several persons in furtherance of the common intention of all, each of such persons is liable for that act in the same manner as if done by him alone) of BNS.

Extortion case: BRS MLA Kaushik Reddy arrested at Hyderabad airport, granted bail within hours
HANUMAKONDA: In a dramatic late-night swoop, Warangal police arrested BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad on Friday and whisked him away to Hanumakonda for questioning in an extortion case . However, in a surprising turn, a Kazipet court rejected the police remand plea and granted him bail on a Rs 20,000 personal bond within hours, bringing an end to the 18-hour high drama. The Huzurabad legislator was booked by the Subedari police on a complaint filed by Katta Umadevi, wife of granite businessman Manoj Reddy. In her complaint, lodged on April 21, Umadevi alleged that Kaushik Reddy had been threatening her husband for over 20 days, demanding money from Manoj for running his granite business in Vangapally village in Kamalapur mandal. She alleged that Kaushik Reddy had already extorted Rs 25 lakh and, on April 18, called again demanding Rs 50 lakh. According to the complaint, he threatened to kill Manoj Reddy and his family and used abusive language. Subedari police registered a case under sections 308(2), 308(4), and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The MLA had earlier moved the Telangana high court seeking to quash the FIR. However, the court dismissed his plea on June 16 and vacated the interim protection from arrest, instructing him to cooperate with the investigation. Despite this direction, police claimed that the MLA was evading questioning, which prompted his arrest upon arrival at the airport. After his arrest, Kaushik Reddy was taken to the Subedari police station and later to MGM Hospital for a mandatory medical check-up before being produced in Kazipet railway court. His arrest sparked protests from BRS workers. Former minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao and ex-chief whip Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar arrived at the police station, demanding to meet the MLA. Party workers also attempted to burn an effigy of chief minister A Revanth Reddy outside the station, prompting police to detain several of them and shift them to Madikonda police station. Police will continue their investigation into the extortion charges, sources said.

Two unidentified men, under the pretext of offering help, allegedly stole gold jewellery worth Rs 75,000 from a couple who had just met with an accident on their way home in Pune. The incident took place on Thursday at around 10 pm near Shriram Chowk in Tilekarnagar, Kondhwa. According to TOI, 32-year-old Sachin Sanjay Mahajan and his wife were en route home from Yewalewadi when their motorcycle slid down the road after hitting a pothole and they both fell off the motorcycle. The couple thanked the two men for a sweet gesture as they were leaving the place. While talking to his wife shortly after the accident, the man realised that his gold chain worth Rs 75,000 was missing. As they decided to go after them, they found out that the duo might have stolen the keys to their motorcycle as well. The couple immediately rushed to the Kondhwa police station and registered a complaint against the two men. Vinay Patankar, Senior Police Inspector, told the Free Press Journal (FPJ) that they are investigating the CCTV footage in the area and the snatchers will be arrested soon.
